Hello,
I have the same problem as many of you. The installation of the Canoscan N670U scanner goes smoothly, and the small test program says it's OK.
But when trying to use it from a graphic software, it can't find the TWAIN drivers!
Canon points out a problem under XP with the NTFS hard disk format, but offers no solution other than reinstalling... which results in the same issue.
Does anyone have an idea about the logic of the TWAIN chain?
Where should the drivers be located? (my folder C:\\WINDOWS\TWAIN32 is empty; C:\\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32 contains weird stuff, the twain dlls, twunk_16 and twunk_32 are in Windows, but is that really where they should be?)

For me, I had lost the scanner due to a problem under XP. My scanner was installed under 98, it switched to XP when I upgraded (so I didn't have your problem). I think it would be good to check the manufacturer's server for your scanner to see if the XP driver exists. It's free. If that's the case, just reinstall it.
Otherwise, the Twain folder is in C:\Windows personally I have 2 (Twain32 and twain_32). The twain_32 folder contains the folder corresponding to my scanner's name, with about 20 files inside (mostly *.dll). But that's not enough to function, there are also files in Windows called twunk_16.exe and twunk_32.exe
That's some stuff I've learned. Oh, and DON'T FORGET TO DISABLE YOUR ANTIVIRUS BEFORE INSTALLING. I got caught by that, and it doesn't warn you!

Bonjour, my problem is that I might buy a CanoScan LiDE 25, crossing my fingers that it will be what I need, but the seller says there is no installation CD for the CanoScan LiDE 25 nor a manual. I wonder if that's really the case? Apparently not, what do you think? Also, I want to know what the difference is between the CanoScan LiDE 25, 20, 110, and 220, apart from the price. Thank you.
Thank you for the tip, this will be the next step to avoid getting distracted. I am surprised that no one can describe the mechanics of it like: "the drawing software calls program X.xxx, which addresses the list of Twain programs at 'such-and-such location', which presents the drivers that are 'there', we choose, etc..."
Twain must be a standard, so this should have been described precisely somewhere.
For my scanner, it works with Vuescan (in the free version, it adds $ everywhere on the image, but it works). So the problem can only be a bad location for software. Paint Shop, for example, does not find any scanner, nor does Canoscan Toolbox, which came with the scanner.

Phew, I found it:
I thought I had disabled my antivirus during various attempts, maybe I did it wrong.
In fact, during the last attempt with Antivir Persona Edition disabled, I found my scanner!!!
So if this can help someone... The antivirus says nothing, nothing special happens, but it blocks the installation of something and it works halfway.
That said, I am still interested in a description of the TWAIN connection mechanics! I'm curious.

Hi, your problem is that the scanner does not work with Windows XP; with the XP operating system, you can:
- try another computer with XP to see if maybe your machine is down
- in my opinion, create a partition where you will install Windows 98 (second edition) and it will work because Windows 98 is detectable by all kinds of peripherals.

I tried what you suggested: disabling the antivirus, reinstalling
in English
Furthermore, when I reinstall from the disk, I'm told that ScanGear is already installed. Perhaps I should delete it to set everything up in a compatible way, but I don't know where to find it to delete it.

following a breakdown of my computer, I sent it for repair and the hard drive was replaced. The only downside is that the scanner software was not reinstalled because I couldn't find the CD. It's a Canon (CanoScan LiDE 20). I tried downloading it, but I can't install it. A window pops up saying (Installer-27306-33-Driver-Canon-CanoScan-LiDE-20-french.exe is not a valid Win 32 application. If you could explain what to do, that would be really nice. If possible, please detail the steps to follow as I am not very skilled in computers. Thank you in advance.

For those using WINDOWS VISTA, once you have connected your scanner to your PC, Windows will attempt to AUTOMATICALLY detect your TWAIN driver. If it fails, it will then download it via Windows Update.

Hello, actually my problem is that I have Vista on my PC and I've installed the drivers for my Canon scanner, but I can't use it because it often tells me that I need to specify the source for saving the files, and when I try to get help with Windows Update, it doesn't work.
