Hello,
I just bought a Brother DCP 585 CW printer and I want to set it up wirelessly with a laptop and a PC that uses a WIRELESS key for the Livebox Wi-Fi. An important point is that there are no Wi-Fi issues between the two computers and the Livebox.
During the various installation attempts for the printer, the connection from the printer to the Livebox fails, but the printer does recognize the Livebox well. From what I understand, I need to give the printer's IP address to the Livebox so that it is recognized, but I don't know where to find it. In short, this has been going on long enough; after multiple attempts, I admit I am powerless in front of these technological wonders.
Does anyone have any ideas to solve this problem so that I can use this printer for more than just photocopying? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

I had, like most of you, the Wi-Fi connection problem with my Brother DCP-585CW printer.
I solved my problem with the help provided on this forum after hours of sweating and several days.
The first issue was that the WEP key had changed to WPA on the Orange website.
I fixed it by going to 192.168.1.1, code "admin," then "admin," Wi-Fi connection, changing from WPA to WEP.
Hooray, after going through the steps on the printer Menu > Network > WLAN > Setup > It searches for SSID, and in my case, it finds my Livebox, which is right next to it for the installation. I select it and confirm with OK.
Open system > WEP > If not already done, enter the WEP key (in lowercase, without spaces).
Be careful, THIS is where I forgot a step: press the association button on the Livebox (rep) BEFORE confirming on the printer. That's it, the printer is now connected via Wi-Fi.
But that wasn't all, the laptop is showing a printing error.
After extensive troubleshooting research on various sites, Windows help, I called Orange who offered me a technician that would have cost me between €29 and €79.
Finally, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the printer on my laptop and IT'S WORKING.
Thanks to all of you and my perseverance, I finally made it. A BIG THANK YOU!

Hello,
I bought a DCP 585 CW printer this week and I didn't have any particular issues with the installation
-- Wirelessly from my laptop on the NEUFBOX Wi-Fi network
-- Via USB cable connected to the NEUF BOX for use from my DESKTOP PC
The ink cartridges that came with the printer are mainly for its initialization; they are very low on ink and will be used for the initial use of the printer, printing a splash page to activate the entire ink circuit and, among other things, cleaning the heads by eliminating waste ink into its tank.
These cartridges will empty very quickly, and it's not surprising if the yellow ink has been used up that the cartridge is empty.
You should also know that Brother has a particular system to maintain the operation of the heads, meaning to prevent the ink from drying on the heads. In fact, the printer is never truly off; it is in standby (a setting that can be changed), and there is a system that activates a head cleaning every two days, which means that even if you don’t use the printer, there is regularly some ink consumption for the cleaning of the heads.
This way, without even using the printer, the cartridges can be completely drained in a few months.
As for me, when I finally use the printer, and I don't use it every day, I don't see the point in leaving it on standby all the time and letting it clean the heads, so I turn off the printer. I will see if the cartridges last longer, but that should be the case.
Have a good day

Hi everyone,
I have the same kind of problem. In the router settings, I noticed that the printer was recognized as a workstation (computer) due to its MAC address and not as a printer... Furthermore, when I search for the printer that is supposed to be on my box, hence on the network, I can't find it.
The ping does not respond either to the assigned address.
In short, my PC and my printer are both on the box (as seen in the router settings) but they do not communicate.
If anyone has a solution, that would be great.
Thank you.

Hello,
I'm considering possibly buying this printer. Are you happy with it? Do you find it economical?

if you want to buy it without Wi-Fi, it's great economically, since I don't use it often, I can't help you.
Hello
I am unable to answer your question. The reason I am contacting you is that I intend to buy the
dcp 585 cw. Could you tell me if you have ever refilled the cartridges with bulk ink using a syringe?
Thank you
Best regards

I had the same problem, in addition to the things you mentioned: Control Panel, under Hardware and Sound select Printer, add a new printer even if you see Brother among the printers, choose wireless connection mode, another tip, update your Java...
There you go.
There you go.
I bought this printer and had no problem installing it via Wi-Fi on a Neuf/SFR box connection.
For your information, if you are looking for the MAC address of the printer, you need to go to inp.rapport -> info reseau. This will print a sheet with all the network information of the Brother (a bit like an ipconfig /all with a PC).
This MAC address is useful if you do like me and have configured your Neufbox to only accept Wi-Fi connections from certain MAC addresses and assign IP addresses based on the MAC addresses.
However, unrelated to that, I am quite surprised by the lifespan of the cartridges supplied with the printer. So far, I have only printed one colored page, the test page during installation (with the color grids), and the printer is already signaling a low level on the Yellow cartridge. Am I the only one in this situation?

Good evening
I bought the DC 585CW. I connected it wirelessly to my laptop and searched for available SSIDs, but the CBOX (or Neuf Box now) did not appear, so I created it. The printer appears offline on the PC, and I don't know if I did everything correctly, but I followed the manual and nothing works!!! Can someone please help me?
Thank you.

Hello
I just installed a DCP 585 cw, it works via WIFI with my phone and is connected to my Neufbox.
On the USB1 port, my desktop PC is connected via Ethernet to PC1 of the Neufbox.
Following the installation procedures described in the manual, everything works fine
except for the scanner from the NB4, which is normal.
If I want to operate the scanner from my desktop PC, I move the USB cable from the Neufbox
to a USB port on the computer located at the front.
Regarding the ink cartridges, they are only very slightly filled, just enough to configure the printer and fill the tubes leading to the print heads. The printer takes more than 4 minutes to configure after the installation of the cartridges, with head cleanings and priming that largely empty these setup cartridges, so it’s advisable to quickly obtain replacement cartridges if you don't want to run out soon.
Have a nice day.

Well, I'm reaching out to you who own this printer regarding an ink consumption issue.
I installed the printer with its installation cartridges (the four that came with it)... After calibration and printing the test sheet, the level of the yellow cartridge was already low. After two or three sheets, it needed to be replaced. So I changed it, thinking it was normal for the provided cartridge to not be very full.
However, now I have printed 6 sheets of graphic documents (no photos) and the level is already low. The documents did contain some yellow, but I find this consumption a bit excessive.
Have you noticed the same thing? Or have I ended up with a defective product?
For your information, I haven't had to change the other three cartridges (black, cyan, magenta), they are still the ones that came with the printer.
Thank you for your help.

Yes, I agree with you, I saw this story about cyclical cleaning in Brother's FAQ. But still, I've only had the printer for 15 days, and I've practically emptied two cartridges (the installation one and a new one from the store) just to print about ten pages of graphic documents.
I spoke to Brother, and they told me that it was indeed not normal. There you go.

Hello,
Indeed, this is not normal; there is a problem with the cartridges.
---- either the printer is cleaning the print head in an abnormal way, and instead of drawing a few drops of ink
to keep the nozzles moist and prevent the ink from drying out, it draws a significant amount of ink.
---- or there is an airtightness issue when the cartridge is in place, causing it to empty.
---- if the problem persists with the same cartridge, it may be that the ink circuit of this cartridge is
defective (the tube between the cartridge and the print head).
Anyway, it is under warranty, so do not intervene on it, and the solution is to return it
to the seller to sort out the issue.
In principle, there should be a replacement of the printer considering that this can be considered a manufacturing defect (hidden defect) since the problem was identified immediately after purchase.
Don't forget to bring the empty cartridges.

hi
Here is my issue
I also have the 585 CW and I can't get it to show up during installation when the computer is supposed to find the printer in a table to finalize the installation, even though the printer is connected to my box (Livebox) via WLAN with the WEP key and everything...
I have Windows 7, the drivers are up to date, and so are the printer's drivers...
I even tried using Ethernet, but I see in the control panel that the printer appears (in green) but it gives an error message with every print attempt, and I can't resolve the issue because Windows does not detect the printer...
I hope I've been clear.

Hello,
I bought a DCP 585 CW a week ago and I can't get it to work.
Let me explain, I have a PC with Windows XP PRO, I have a Livebox, a desktop PC with a Wi-Fi key, and my DCP 585 CW.
I installed my DCP 585 so that the Livebox would recognize it, and it really worked since I got the message CONNECTED and the network symbol appears on my PRINTER.
Now my problem is that when I install my DCP 585 CW, I can't find it on my computer. I have disabled the Windows firewall but I still can't find it on my PC.
Can someone help me? Is there any setting to change in the Livebox, and if so, which one? Should we change the IP address of the DCP 585 CW? If yes, what should we set it to?
I thought this would be super easy to install; today I'm stuck with a new printer that I can't use.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Benoît

Hello,
I can give you the solution for printing but not yet for scanning.
Your printer needs to recognize the network, and you must intervene in the printer's settings using pages 25-26 and 27 of your quick installation guide. To do this, you need to find the characteristics of your network on your PC: the SSID, the encryption mode, and its key, and enter that directly into your printer. It's tedious, but it works.
See you later!

I've just spent 6 hours on it but nothing is working
Thanks anyway
