[Publisher] PDF Publication: impossible

Hello everyone :)

Big big problem with Publisher: I have created an A5 catalog (double page in A4 landscape format) that I want to publish as a PDF for printing.

However, when I start the publication, choosing the "high quality print" option:
- either I leave my document in RGB mode, it saves as a PDF, but my colored texts come out gray (instead of purple)
- or I switch to CMYK, or CMYK + spot colors, and when I start the publication, Publisher gives me the error message "Publisher cannot save the file."

And I have already tried with the different possible color modes as well as the different types of publications ("standard," "high quality," "commercial print"). Each time the same issue.

Can someone tell me how I can publish my Publisher file as a PDF without losing my font colors?

    After encountering the same issue, I finally found the solution:

    Publisher seems to rely on the default printer configured in Windows to generate its PDFs.
    So if this printer is black and white, it renders the text in grayscale
    (and not the images, go figure why...)

    To fix the problem, simply set a color printer as the default.
    Control panel > printers > right-click on a printer > set as default.

    As soon as I did this, the problem was solved.

      If this solution has worked well for you, I don't think we can generalize it : - ))
      Because I do create PDFs, fully in color (graphs and text) from Publisher compositions, on a workstation that has a black and white printer set as default.
      I would consider the converter being used where printing properties can be defined. We use PdfCreator where you can set everything to B&W or everything to color, with no alternatives. There are also RGB mode options...
      So there's something else that I can't explain further.
      I just wanted to come back to share what I do :)

    Hello,

    In Publisher 2003, there is a "pack for service bureau" function (under File).
    It compresses the file and generates a .zup with an executable to open on another machine.
    It retrieves TrueType fonts and others....

    Check in 2007 if it is more suitable than the PDF conversion you are doing

      Thank you for your response, but it doesn't work; it's the same problem:

      - If I'm in RGB colors and I choose the "High-quality print" output mode, everything works, the PDF is created, but when I open it, my colored fonts are in gray.

      - If I switch to CMYK + spot colors mode, with the same output mode, at first everything is fine, it doesn’t signal any issues, I start the export of the composition and during the full saving, bam! it gives me a message saying "unable to complete this operation."

      It's the same kind of problem every time: the RGB mode passes, but when I open it, it’s in gray, and the other modes crash during the saving process.

      I urgently need a solution because this catalog must be sent to the printer on Monday, and my boss really wants the titles in color... but I've searched all over the web, and I’m stuck here :(

        Well... to be honest, I know that I eventually solved the problem since we were able to print the famous catalog... but that was a year ago and I don't remember at all what fixed the issue :(

        I would have helped you gladly, but right now I'm stumped!

    I had the same problem and the answers here didn't solve it, so here's how I got around it:

    In Publish as PDF > Optimize for: edit > PDF options: uncheck the box "bitmap text when fonts cannot be embedded"

    It was probably because I was using a downloaded font, and I had to uncheck this option to prevent Publisher from changing it to black during the PDF export.

    I wish I had read this answer so I hope it will be useful to others!
