Hello,
Here is my configuration:
Processor: Intel P4 2.6 GHz (26 x100) Northwood
Motherboard: MSI MS-6575E
Graphics Card: Connect3D Ati Radeon 9550 / 256 MB
Memory: 1 x 1 GB DDR 3200 / 400
2 CRT 17" monitors
I am using Windows XP.
Having acquired a second monitor identical to my first, I wanted to set up a dual-screen. I therefore replaced an old Radeon 9200 with a slightly less old 9550 that has 1 VGA output and 1 DVI output. Thanks to a VGA/DVI adapter, I connected my second monitor to the DVI port.
I configure my card, install the driver, let the provided software do its job, and simply click next.
No problem, so I go to the control panel and try to activate the 2nd monitor (which has been in sleep mode since the PC was powered on). I select it, check the option "extend the desktop to this screen" and confirm. At that moment, the 2nd monitor turns off, then turns back on, then goes back to sleep... However, when I move my mouse to the edge of the 1st screen, it disappears as if the desktop was indeed extended.
Similarly, when I check the settings in both the Ati utility and the control panel, both screens are detected, active, and show no conflicts. The Everest software also detects both screens.
Hence my question: is it a compatibility issue, a driver issue, ...?
I am open to any help, as my poor knowledge in this area is exceeded.
Thank you in advance and happy new year!
