incorrect clock! Solved

Question

Hello! I have a little problem! My clock is wrong when I turn on my PC! The time is the same as when I turned off my PC!
Is it because I turn off my PC and my modem at night? I have a power strip where I can turn off the power! My modem is then turned off!
Since the clock is set with the internet, is that the reason?

Unfortunately, I don't have Windows Vista and even less a laptop :/ (provide more details if you can)
Have you tried manually changing the time and date in the BIOS (setup) by pressing F2? (if F2 is indeed for Vista)
Then if that didn't work, double-click on the time to go to "Date and Time Properties"
In "Date and Time": today's date
In "Time Zone": (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) <--- (if you live in Quebec) and check "Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time."
In "Internet Time," check "Synchronize with an Internet time server automatically" and enter the server: time.windows.com.
Finally, click "Update" to apply.
(It should say: The time has been synchronized with time.windows.com...) otherwise, there is still an error

This might help:
1. Turn off the PC
2. Switch the power switch to OFF (at the back of the computer) and unplug the power supply from the PC (large black plug)
3. Remove the BIOS battery
4. Wait 3-5 minutes
5. Reinsert the battery correctly
6. Plug the power supply back in
7. Start the PC
***Important*** (the time and date may reset to 0, so you will need to do everything from the beginning)

Other causes: Virus - the battery may be dead or incompatible.

When I turned on my computer earlier, the clock was set to 00:00 and January 1, 2003.

It's all good, I found out why my clock was going off! Simply because I was also turning off my power strip! The current doesn't flow anymore!
Before I had this power strip that can be turned off or on, my clock was working!
I turned off my computer for 20 minutes without turning off my power strip and the time didn't get messed up!

Hello,

the information such as time and date is in the BIOS. The changes are in a cache memory powered by a battery on the motherboard....

This battery typically lasts at least 5 years, but there are exceptions....

Note: once the PC is started, the main power supply takes over from the battery.

When you turn off your PC via Windows, you apparently just put it in "sleep" mode, which means the settings are still up to date...

When you actually cut the power from the power strip, you lose the settings because your battery is likely dead...

The battery may be at the "end of its life," which could explain why it holds the information for 15 minutes or several hours after the PC is turned off...

You have found a "workaround" for your battery deficiency.

Note 2: it's not just the time that resets, but every setting modified compared to the default.

Hello,
I have a similar problem, my clock is running about 40 minutes fast for some time now. When I set the clock to the correct time, it automatically resets itself to 40 minutes fast after just 3 seconds... My card is less than a year old, so it's not the battery, and I don't seem to have any viruses...

same issue, after 6 months on a new PC, the time was running off on the new PC, so new motherboard under warranty, but 6 months later
same issue, no more warranty.
Should I change the battery, or is there another problem? Thank you for your advice.

Once a week, while the computer is connected, its clock synchronizes with a NTP (network time protocol) server. However, Microsoft's default server can sometimes cause discrepancies. You can easily change the Internet Time server.
* Double-click on the clock in the notification area
* Tab "Internet Time", type in one of the SNTP addresses provided on one of the following sites:
France, World.
[W32Time errors in the event viewer correspond to connection attempts to the SNTP. To disable this service, simply uncheck the box provided in the "Internet Time" tab].

Tip:
- To change the frequency of the clock update, you need to change a setting in the registry:
* Open the registry editor by typing REGEDIT in Start / Run.. (Windows key + r).
* Go to the key:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NTPClient.
* From the File menu - Export, back up the key just in case.
* Change the value of "SpecialPollInterval" to your desired value. By default, it is set to 604800 which corresponds to weekly synchronization and is generally sufficient.

- If using a firewall or router, make sure that port 123 is open.

I had the same problem yesterday and I managed to find out what it was.
I don't know if it's resolved, but I'd like to write it down for others.

Restart your computer and press delete to enter the setup. (note: you might have a password)

Find the time and date. (if the time and date are not correct, then you've found your problem)

Set the correct time and today's date.

Exit and SAVE.

Also, make sure to be set to time.windows.com and in the time zone (GMT-05:00) Eastern Standard Time (U.S. and Canada)

Hello everyone
I have a bit of the same problem, when I turn off the PC (AN ASUS LAPTOP, with VISTA)
then when I restart it, I land on a black page where I have the option to press F1 to start with default settings or F2 to enter the SETUP
when I press F1, the PC turns on with the wrong time, I looked a bit on the forum and I tried turning it off once by completely cutting the power, and once by leaving it plugged in, in both cases the problem appeared, so I concluded that it wasn't the motherboard battery, based on that where could it come from???

PS: the PC is 2 months old...

Hello, I have the same problem as everyone else. But the PC is over 3 years old, so I imagine it's the battery that's running low...

I have a question: if I remove the battery, will the BIOS reset completely to zero and therefore cancel all the flashes we've done? And in that case, how do I restore the default configuration?

In my case, whenever I put my PC to sleep or turn it off, the clock can show 2096 or 2000; however, it never indicates a value higher or lower than 2000.

Does anyone have a solution?

When the BIOS battery of a computer (even a new one) seems to wear out too quickly and causes problems (clock, startup), there often appears to be a correlation with a power strip. I don’t quite understand why, but it seems that regularly cutting the power by using the switch on the power strip has a negative effect on the battery. In everyday practice, I therefore advise turning off the computer normally, possibly cutting the power (small button at the back of the computer), but never using the on/off function of the power strip.
