Acer Aspire 9300 series startup problem

Hello,

Hello, I own an Acer Aspire 9300 series laptop and I can’t boot it anymore. When I press the “power” button, the power light comes on green, there is a green light with the symbol of a bulb that lights up as well (where the jack sockets for the microphone are) and the DVD drive starts to initialize, but the screen stays black and nothing happens.
Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Merry Christmas to everyone
See you
Michel

When you start your computer, does it emit beeps or not?

Hi Florian, listen I saw that you replied to Michel. Mine is a PC with Acer that turns on normally, you can hear the startup sound clearly but the screen stays black, the indicators light up and it beeps. Can you help me, I’m really in trouble. Right now it’s my niece who lent me her PC and elsewhere we have all our photos. Thanks in advance. Isabelle

Hello, I have the same problem, my PC starts, the fan runs for 5 seconds +/-, it boots up to the CD, all that without any beeps, then nothing more, motherboard power light on, nothing on screen
I dismantled everything, tested everything, RAM sticks, etc.
I tried the Bigfanch trick but nothing works
I even reapplied thermal paste to the CPU
could the CPU be dead (I don't think so) and you?
      help me please

Hello everyone, same problem as you to reassure yourself—a problem with the motherboard or the graphics card, maybe the hard drive. What I did because there was no real answer on the forums. So I went to the 4CER site and called the after-sales service and everything is back on track.

I had a black screen and 3 beeps at startup.
signs of a dead graphics card; given the high cost of a card, I changed laptops a year ago.
I bought a Samsung, done with Acer.
      See you soon

    hello
i had the same symptoms (3 black screen, fan stops after a few seconds) as you on aspire 9304 , while browsing the net it seemed that if there was overheating it caused a bios safety shutdown that prevents startup
mine had the cooling radiator properly clogged
i tried several keyboard and power button maneuvers and the result is it restarted
press the power button without power for more than 1 minute (several attempts with no result)
    take apart, reassemble memory sticks
    press without power alt+f10
    press without power alt+escape
then same maneuver at startup (i am stubborn)
press again on power without power 1 minute
    retry and it started
    lucky break?
i don’t know exactly which combination worked, but one thing is certain your laptop is not dead, the chipset is not burnt or desoldered as i read, it’s the bios in security mode that requires a hardware reset
personally i had everything taken apart but apart from cleaning the radiator it was for nothing
there you go, i hope this may help some people
for those who sent their pc to the scrap, too bad

I’ll try tomorrow. indeed, 80 euros an hour to hear, "it’s better to buy another one..." to find it later on the net for sale as a used item at half price…

      Hello,
5 years after the same failure, I just came across this trick and my PC is working again. I was told it was dead and to sell it for parts, but I kept hope and I made the right choice
      Thank you for your post

    Hi, anything new...
Well I said some nonsense about thermal paste, the graphics card is soldered to the motherboard.

The good news is that I found a repairer who is equipped to fix this and it’s cheaper than in Paris.

You can send him either the motherboard + graphics card if you can remove it, or directly your PC (with a 20 euro cheque for shipping costs) then depending on the symptoms he will propose a solution that you are free to accept or not; if you refuse he will return the PC to you thanks to the 20 euro cheque.

    sos.laptops@gmail.com

Tell him you’re coming from me. And keep us posted, it would be stupid to throw away an 800 euro PC after only 2 years...

    Hi Isabelle,

From what I could find on the web, it’s a fairly well-known issue on Acer laptops.
Usually the problem is caused by the motherboard being considered dead.
As for your data, I reassure you they are not lost; you just need to remove the hard drive and connect it via a USB interface, for example, to another PC.
Here you go, hoping this can help.
    Cheers
    Michel

      Hi Michel
      Thanks already for replying
Is it difficult to take apart the hard drive because I must admit I’m really not good at this
and the motherboard is expensive? We paid €900 for the PC so it makes me ... you’ll understand
I’m reassured about my data, but I still wonder how I’m going to manage the dismantling
thanks again and if you have another tip
      bye

Hi, I had the same problem as you... Strangely, I saw on other forums that several of us have an Acer PC (Acer Aspire 9302WSMI for me) with a manufacturing date from early 2007 that start failing. Acer builds PCs designed to last a maximum of 2 years with normal video, TV, video game usage (I remind you that it’s supposed to be a multimedia PC...). The symptoms are: black screen (does not turn on at all), sleep button lit and that’s all. For me no beep at startup. I tried starting by removing the RAM sticks, with no results. I took it to two repair shops who told me it was the chipset, hence the motherboard and/or the video card that were toast; they also said the only way to repair was to find the same model to recover the chipset from it to replace mine defective...

Since I’m stubborn, I ended up finding a professional who repaired it for me, in Paris. It turns out that using video made it heat up a bit too much, hence the failure...

Contact me if you want more details.

      Hi Waree,

I wanted to know if the repair involved replacing the video chipset, and how much such a operation would cost.

Hi, to be honest I don’t know exactly what he did, I don’t feel like taking apart my laptop right now. I don’t think he replaced something like the motherboard or the graphics card; he told me that replacing the motherboard would cost around 300 euros...

I paid 180 euros (including 35 for the diagnosis), it may sound expensive but I needed to recover my data at all costs.

The other professionals all refused to even take a look when I explained the symptoms...

      There you go.

      Hello,

I have an Acer 9300 laptop for about 2 years, now it doesn't work, 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps, probably a graphics card issue, can you help me, I live in Escautpont near Valenciennes.

      thank you in advance

Michel, send me an email or leave one in the discussion.

I’ll be frank: since I’m sending them some units, I’ll try in return to get a discount on my next repair (I know it will break again, it’s a Acer!).

In Paris the guy promised to reimburse me 50 euros if I sent him 10 PCs with the same problem, the address was posted here and I got burned. Finding repairers who don’t scam too much took me a long time...

this issue recently happened to my daughter, I hope it will work for you, we simply advised her to unplug or remove the batteries, then put them back in and restart.
    That's all.

The beep indicates a hardware error; you need the manual, and normally the beep (number + duration + repetition) indicates where the problem is (RAM, processor, graphics card, ...).
If you can't find it, provide the model of your laptops.

    Hi,

same problem with my Acer 9300 when I press the power button the screen stays black and the PC doesn’t start, I tried letting the battery discharge and removing it but still the same problem, but when plugging and unplugging the power cable from the battery and trying to turn on the PC several times I manage to start it anyway, the problem doesn’t happen every day.

Is the battery likely to be dead or worn out???

Hello waree, do you have more info regarding the repair for your motherboard?
Would overheating cause the video chipset to detach?

Honestly I can’t say more precisely, since I didn’t open it myself, he kept to himself the manipulation he must have done… I suppose you meant to say “took off” and not “decolérait”…

I should add that I paid 170 euros, including 35 for the diagnostic. It may seem expensive, but I absolutely had to recover my data.

3 months warranty with, and I should point out that this is the only one willing to do this kind of repair; the others advised replacing the PC (or finding the same one to recover the motherboard without being sure of its reliability)! He told me around 300 euros to replace it, the only place that accepts these repairs...

    Hi Clem!
I had the same problem as you not long ago. I think before all this happened your computer was shutting down every 30 minutes, then 6 minutes, etc... In any case, I’ve had this and there’s nothing you can do! So I regret to tell you that your computer is dead :( The graphics card gave out, which costs about 400€. I advise you to move to something else as soon as possible.

Have a good evening. Best regards.

Hello, to gain access to the fan you must dismantle everything delicately. If you know a bit about it, it goes, but be careful not to break the plastic pegs during disassembly and pay attention to the wiring (the connectors are pretty annoying to remove). Otherwise, are you sure it’s your fan? Do you have something on the screen? Have a good day and good luck.

Hi there and thanks for the reply. Yes, I’m sure about the fan since it isn’t spinning anymore.

I’m not super strong with electronics but I have a few basics…

The problem with this model is that when you open the hull’s access doors on the underside of the PC you don’t have access to everything; there’s even a metal plate, if I remember correctly, that blocks access or viewing of the components…

I have no idea about the price of a fan, by the way…

To access the fan you have to completely disassemble the PC, that is to say remove the hard drive, Wi‑Fi card, memory and all the screws on the battery side, about 32 screws, and after that the most delicate part is to unclasp the top of the keyboard, then remove the motherboard from the chassis with 5 or 6 screws (the simplest). For the fan you can repair it if it isn’t burnt; I’ve done it before. You clean it, then you can remove the shaft with the blades, it stiffens a bit but it comes apart, and put a little oil or a heat-resistant grease (not too much) just on the fan shaft. Good luck.

According to the symptoms, it’s a memory module issue; I had the same problem as you. Try opening the laptop’s bottom cap and run a cross-check of the RAM sticks (RAM in slot 2, one stick only…).

The discussions here are a mess, I can’t figure it out (the messages aren’t one under the other...).

Which symptoms are you talking about borrix? Because actually, that’s what the repairman told me. My PC has crashed since my last message, it did the same thing as last year: no response at all, only the standby button stays on.
Now I’m in the north, I found a repairman (too risky to open it myself given the work it is). When I brought it to him, the guy told me it was probably the processor (the PC had shut down by itself two or three times, I had to wait before being able to power it back on).
I left it with him for two days and he repaired it for 50 euros, he told me it was the memory stick, he replaced it. I thought it was a scam and that he just replaced it to bill something.

My PC crashed twice, two times it did exactly the same thing, two different diagnoses, two different prices for two different cities (Paris 180 euros, north 50 euros) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have the same problem: the start indicator on the right lights up green, and the small square on the left side of the computer also lights up; when I try to turn it on, the fan and the hard drive start for a fraction of a second and then go off. Is there a solution?

No one knows how to contact Acer’s technical support to find out if this problem is known by their factory and whether it’s possible to replace the defective part without having to pay anything?
