Toshiba laptop won't turn on. Solved/Closed

Question

Hello, I have a problem with my Toshiba laptop. After disassembling it to change the BIOS battery, it won’t start anymore and the power indicator just blinks orange (on battery or mains)... does anyone have an idea, please?

Before changing the inverter, test it on an external monitor (fn+F5), but otherwise a classic technique:

disconnect the battery,
press power to discharge the motherboard,
plug in the power supply,
reconnect the battery and here’s the little secret: hold down the BACKSPACE key for five full minutes

turn it on... bingo the laptop works, well I had both issues, my inverter is dead too but it works perfectly on an external monitor

Hello.

I have the same problem. After a shock, my laptop won't turn on, and the power LED keeps flashing orange, seemingly indicating an error code (it flashes 2 times, then 3, 2, 1).

To my great surprise, the most fragile part of the laptop, which is the hard drive, has not sustained any damage, so it is not to blame.

Does anyone know the meaning of this error code??

I have a Toshiba S5200-801 and I had the same problem as you, the laptop wouldn’t turn on .. just the little LEDs lit up, and I realized that one of my slots for my RAM stick (RAM memory) had failed (2X 256MB). This means that I am left with only one working slot and therefore only 256MB of memory .. I have to take it back to the factory for repair - under warranty!

you should try testing with another adapter, maybe it's our adapter (charger) that's faulty, but I don't really believe that. I think it's more likely the motherboard... you know, in a laptop there aren't many parts! the motherboard, the hard drive... and then it's mostly just plastic components. If the graphics card in your laptop is a GFORCE 4, you need to download this link:

Once downloaded, unzip these files and run them from Windows while having it plugged in, that’s very important (hoping it doesn't turn off during the operation!) and then just follow the prompts, and it will update the BIOS.

I have an M70-200 that is more than 8 months old;
four days ago I tried to make it work on battery, but it couldn't start... since then I still can't get it to work (I think I will contact the warranty)
one day before this problem, what I remember is that I used the battery down to 5%, then I used it plugged into the mains (I remember I didn't see an orange light when unplugging it)
I removed the battery and put it back, the PC starts to turn on then turns off.

Yesterday morning, I plugged the PC into the mains, I saw the charging light on, I left it like that for 4 hours or more, then when I turned it on I found that the battery was still at 3%!

Hello everyone, I have a strange problem with my Toshiba S5900-801. When I connect it to a "wired" network, it reboots after displaying a blue screen with messages similar to a memory dump from the hard drive, and it does the same thing on Wi-Fi. Anyway, whenever it detects an internet connection, it shows a blue screen and reboots. If I keep the Wi-Fi card in, it keeps doing it nonstop. It's very urgent, thank you. If possible, I don't have these drivers. :)

yeah, I had the same issue with my Toshiba and I managed to fix it!
You need to remove the battery, plug the laptop into the wall, and start it while holding down the "power" button for a few seconds, and ta-da! It turns on (the light was...).^^ After that, you can put the battery back in place and it’s good to go!

Hello everyone,

I have a Satellite Pro A60FR that was working well until now.
The battery took a while to charge and drained a bit quickly, but it did the job.

Since last week, despite pressing the power button, it stays off.
The power button light turns blue, but there’s no display; the screen remains completely black.
If I press the button again, the blue light turns off, that’s the only thing that changes state!

The hard drive is fine; I tested it on another laptop, and the battery is also okay.

Is it the motherboard, as some seem to suggest in a similar case?
Does anyone have a suggestion to confirm this issue, maybe a second-hand motherboard?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that is giving me the same problem. It won’t turn on with either the power supply or the battery. I replaced the charger and I still have a light indicator and a message that the battery is empty. It makes a small noise at startup and then nothing. Does anyone have a solution?

I can’t find where the memory sticks are located. There seems to be a slot at the back of the laptop reserved for this, but it’s empty.

I’d like to point out that this laptop worked, but always with the battery. Never just on AC power. And when it turned off, I had to wait for it to be fully charged before it would turn back on.

If anyone has a solution, thank you. Because it’s total despair.

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Portege, and once I put it in hibernation, unplugged it, and then forgot about it for about 15 days.
Now it doesn’t work on battery mode anymore.

When I plug it in with the battery, the battery light blinks quickly in orange at regular intervals (the same amount of time on and off).

If I start it plugged in with the battery, the battery light starts blinking slowly, stays on for several seconds, then turns off for about half a second (this is to give the "rhythm" it blinks for those who know their stuff).

If I check the battery properties, it says "charged to 99%."

But it doesn’t start on battery; the battery light keeps blinking in some way when it is plugged in, and if I unplug it, it turns off as if there’s no battery, even though it shows that it’s charged...

I have a fair bit of knowledge in computing, but I don’t understand this problem; I’ve never encountered it, but it seems more like a hardware issue than a software one.

So, I think I’ve provided enough detail; I don’t have the exact model of the laptop anymore (it might have been something like p4410) as I removed the label when I renovated the casing.

Hi,

If your PC turns on with the power supply but not on battery, and you've tested everything since you claim to be good with computers. Have you tried:

- Cleaning the battery connectors.
- Draining the battery (if the PC turns on with the battery inside when plugged in). / draining it via the BIOS.

- For Toff16, check if your Wi-Fi is enabled in the BIOS but open another discussion....

I solved my problem. A defect on the motherboard... (burned in one spot) / I simply replaced it with a second-hand one that I was lucky to find for cheap.

Sony Vaio still looks good in design, but it's easily grouped with Acer, Packard Bell, and other mediocre PCs... Toshibas are the same for 90% of their laptop products now. It's sad to see this drop in prices, to compete while cutting corners with cardboard materials.

After powering on with the battery, the fan and hard drive are running, all the LEDs are lit normally, but the screen remains black and I cannot enter its BIOS. The screen of a laptop is connected to the motherboard by a plug-in cable; it may have become disconnected... If the laptop is under warranty, bringing it back is the best thing to do to avoid complications from mishandling. Otherwise, try to open it and take a look at that famous cable.

taina624, first check if your graphics card is working properly by connecting an external monitor and using the keyboard shortcut to output the image to the external screen.  Think about the lighting...  Also, it may be that the cable connecting the card is loose... it is located between the keyboard and the screen... so you need to disassemble the screen and the upper cover of the keyboard... and check the connection.  It could also be that a neon light is dead... you would need to replace it.  I have no idea about the price because I do this for free^^

Well, it shuts down, and then nothing. When I restart it, it works again, but it freezes a few minutes later. If I let it "rest" for an hour or two, it works again for a short hour before freezing.

Overheating problem, I have a feeling it's going into safety mode... Try to dust it off a bit by opening it, don't touch anything to avoid making a mistake, spray a little air inside to see if it's dust making it overheat -- A little help does wonders ;)

Actually, I have an ignition problem but I prefer to ask: With my TOSHIBA laptop, I was downloading all the time, then about a month ago, the laptop would shut down suddenly when I was playing WoW, and to turn it back on, I had to unplug the power supply from the laptop and plug it back in, then I could restart it.  - I've also noticed that for the past month the laptop has been experiencing fluctuations in power (the fluctuations in power being the difference between when the power supply is plugged in and when it is unplugged).  I took it to a friend who is knowledgeable about these things, and he told me that the power supply was outputting 8.5 volts instead of 19 volts.  I would therefore like to know if it is only the power supply, which I hope, or if it could be the CPU or the motherboard that is malfunctioning...  Thank you very much ++

Hello,  Have you checked if it’s not the inverter that’s malfunctioning (the screen backlight system)? Try looking by reflection to see if you can see the icons on your desktop.

So it was me who originally had this problem, and after numerous attempts, I was able to identify the fault.  Given that I had used the computer day and night, the battery and its charger had given up the ghost.  The charger was no longer outputting 19V but 11.5V, which meant the battery could no longer turn on properly.  I can advise you, if you have a laptop, to buy a standard battery which costs around 40 euros and use it plugged in, but the downside is that you'll have to stay in the same place, or if you have a bit more money, buy a battery and a charger from your computer's brand....  For me, it was a PC with 512MB of RAM, Intel Pentium; since it was quite old, I decided to buy a new one....... I have no more issues now....  Problem solved: this cannot obviously be related to the processor because if that were the case, it wouldn't even turn on since the processor is the starting point of the computer.  With this information, good luck to you in resolving your issues... Thank you.

Hello, Thank you for this forum, which has probably awakened me to my problem. I have a TOSHIBA P30, and for a long time, there have been more and more lines appearing on the screen—normal screen wear; we wait for it to die. However, for the past 8 days, my computer starts up and then shuts down after a minute as soon as XP is installed. I concluded that the graphics card or the power supply was messed up and that all that was left was to vertically classify the computer. Rest in peace. And being the curious person I am, I wanted to try it in the BIOS, without loading WINDOWS. I removed the hard drive, and it worked without shutting down. I was therefore in great doubt about the graphics card since the BIOS is black and white, and as soon as Windows uses color, BINGO. Reading this forum, I realize that many of you have downloaded driver updates from the Toshiba site, and after reflection, I did that not long ago too. However, there may have been several hours between when I did it and when I turned off the computer, and the problem arose when I turned it back on. Conclusion: TOSHIBA provided us with a crappy driver. Now that I understand, the computer, which is very, very close to the trash, I will retrieve it and give it some artificial respiration. It’s not going to be easy, but I will manage by working on the hard drive directly via another computer, since it’s impossible to start under XP and the goal is to save my data. SO NO FORMATTING. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I see it breathing.

Hello everyone, I read some forums and I couldn't find answers to my problem. So, I also have a Toshiba and all of a sudden while I was using it, the screen went black and it won't turn on!  In fact, it lights up when the computer wakes up or when you turn it on for about half a second. I also managed to use my laptop normally by connecting another screen. Hello,   a mishandling, a shock, etc... in this case, if the computer is plugged into the mains, you need to unplug it (for safety), turn it off completely, then underneath the PC, at the battery location, there are small tabs on each side that retract. You just need to slide them and gently pull out the battery (disconnect and reconnect it) while handling it carefully, press the power button, and Mr. Computer will signal back, a message will appear, you press enter on the keyboard, and your computer will open again, having retained all its programs in memory. By removing the battery, it clears the errors and reconfigures itself. Unless the battery is of poor quality or there are other issues related to the computer.  Good luck  Gayver
