CD/DVD Drive Disconnected Code 45 Windows 10

Solved/Closed
Hello, I have a big problem with my DVD drive. Overnight, after a simple restart, my drive disappeared from My Computer and the Device Manager.
When I show hidden devices, I see my drive, but it says: The device is disconnected (Code 45), reconnect...
I have tried a lot of things:
- changing the SATA slot
- clearing the CMOS
- deleting the upper and lower filter keys from the registry
- uninstalling the drive driver
- reinstalling Windows (upgrade)
- adding enum device key 1,2,3 without success
etc...
Yet the drive works perfectly; it's recognized in the BIOS, and I can boot from it.
I don't know where the problem is from,
Thank you in advance for your replies.

  1. Hello,
The device in question can very well be physically recognized in the BIOS, you can also boot from it, but when you try to access it, it may not respond at all!
This seems to be the case at the moment, is that correct?
    Best regards.

    1. Yes, that's right, but I tried to uninstall the driver to see if it could reinstall automatically.
    2. @BastienLVD78Which PC is this drive installed on?
Is it a simple drive or also a burner?
    3. It is installed on a desktop PC, it is a DVD/CD reader and burner.
    4. @BastienLVD78Okay for a desktop PC, but is it a brand?
If so, which one, what references?
    5. Asus série de PC de bureau A_F-K31ade
  2. Hello,

    Code 45:

This hardware device is not currently connected to the computer. (Code 45)
    Recommended resolution
This error occurs when a device that was previously connected to the computer is no longer connected. To resolve this issue, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

No resolution is necessary. This error code is used solely to indicate the device's disconnected status and does not require resolution.

The error code is automatically cleared when you connect the associated device to the computer.

    Additional information

If Device Manager is started with the environment variable
    DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
set to the value 1 (i.e., showing these devices), all subsequently attached (NONPRESENT) devices are displayed in the device list and assigned to this error code.

    Try this:

Shut down the PC, disconnect the drive, restart, shut down, reconnect the drive, then restart.
    1. Already done, it changes nothing.
  3. If it's a DVD burner, check if the region is set to France (Region 2).

If not, have you updated the firmware?
    1. The problem is that I uninstalled it, so it's impossible to modify anything. And for the firmware, I can't access it either.
  4. Hello BastienLVD78,
In the Device Manager, what is currently displayed under DVD/CD ROM drives?
    Example:
    Best regards.

    1. Nothing, not even when I display hidden devices, there isn't even a 'DVD-ROM drive' tab.
    2. @BastienLVD78It’s certain that if he’s not there, you’re going to have a hard time configuring it!
Have you checked in the BIOS if everything is normal?
    3. Yes, everything is normal.
    4. @BastienLVD78So, in my opinion, if it is not present, and everything is normal in the BIOS, the only thing left to blame is the connections; I don't see anything else, or the burner is dead!
    5. Ok thanks, I'll check if I have a SATA cable in advance even though I'm not too sure.
  5. Having a free moment, I took the opportunity to open my PC and take apart the drive.
After looking at it and inspecting it everywhere, I don't see anything unusual except when I shake it horizontally, I hear a little clicking sound, as if a tiny piece had come loose and was moving around inside the drive.
In the end, I wonder if it's not the drive that's broken.
    1. It's for a potential reason like that that I was asking you to try another engraver, but then again, you need to have one!
    2. @glg29Yes, don't worry, I will test it this weekend,
1- The drive works, in which case I need to reinstall Windows
2- The drive does not work, I have to buy a new one
      Only possible solutions
    3. Hello, after testing it on another Windows 7 PC: It works. It is recognized by the Windows 7 test PC but not by Windows 10
I don't know if I need to change the drive or make modifications on Windows.

    Go to the Device Manager
    Expand the DVD/CD Drives menu
    Right-click on the CD/DVD drive
    Uninstall

    Click on Action
    Scan for hardware changes

    If that doesn't work:
    Action
    Try -->> Add legacy hardware

    1. I won't be really available for almost the whole of next week, so I won't be able to test.
  8. Hello, the drive works on another PC but not on the one in question.
    Should I change the drive?
    Best regards

      1. Hello, these methods don't work because I uninstalled the player as advised in the forums, and since then Windows has not detected it and therefore reinstalled it :/
        1. Hello, as a solution for future people who will consult this topic, change your player if all the proposed methods do not work.
          1. Hello
With your previous OS, the player worked, and you upgraded to another version? Now the player doesn't work anymore, but it's not broken either; it's simply that Microsoft has found another way to make a little more money.
I just saw on Microsoft (because I have the same problem as you) that you have to pay 14.89 Euros to unlock what the player is playing.
So the player does run, but there's no sound, no image.
It's simply outrageous; I'm going to change the OS.
