[une erreur de lecture du disque est survenue]

Solved
Hello,

I have a problem with my laptop. It shut down while I was working, and since then, when I try to restart it, the following message appears: "A disk read error occurred." I am then prompted to click on Ctrl/Alt/Del to restart, but the same error message shows up every time.
Does anyone have a solution? Thank you in advance!

  1. Hello,
To resolve the issue of the message "a disk read error occurred," I took the hard drive on which Windows (Windows 7) was installed and connected it externally to my other computer (which also has Windows 7).
After connecting it externally, Windows prompted me to repair it (like when you improperly disconnect a USB drive).
After performing the repair, which took ages, I went to My Computer (Computer), right-clicked on the externally connected hard drive (the one connected internally on another computer should be the same), clicked on "Properties," then on the "Tools" tab, then on the check tool (the "Check now" button), ticked both boxes, and clicked on "Start."
After letting it do its job, when I reconnected the hard drive to my computer, the problem was solved.

Here's a quick summary of the steps:

1 - Connect the Windows hard drive to another computer (externally or internally, it doesn't matter)
2 - Go to My Computer (Computer)
    3 - Right-click on the hard drive
    4 - Click on Properties
5 - Click on the "TOOLs" tab
6 - Click on "Check Now"
7 - Check both boxes, click on "Start"
8 - Once the check is finished, disconnect the hard drive and reconnect it to the tower.
    1. no, it didn't work for me but thank you anyway
I tried Vista (the one that's acting up) on my laptop externally under XP but it doesn't do anything more but thank you anyway
    2. It didn't work for me either.
    3. Yes, indeed, Cedric3o's method ... doesn't work! Still

I repeat with some improvements the method: it works for sure!!!

It's a hardware problem, the only way I have to solve this issue

      PREREQUISITES
      1) have an external disk with enough free space to back up disk C
      2) obtain the bootable CD of Drive Image 7.0 ESSENTIAL TO HAVE ABSOLUTELY
      3) have the CD with the original recovery OS of the PC or a standard Windows

      PROCEDURE

      A) BACKUP OF CONTENT FROM C: TO EXTERNAL DISK
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      1) boot with the DRIVE IMAGE 7.0 CD ... choose menu 1
      2) in the various menus ON THE LOWER LEFT THERE IS THE EQUIVALENT OF START in XP, look for explorer and select the external disk
      3) create a directory e.g. SAVEC on the external hard drive
      4) from the menu, choose TOTAL COMMANDER
      5) in the left window select the root of disk C and with CTRL A the system files that appear in red then each directory by clicking on it + pressing SPACE
      6) in the right window go to the SAVEC directory
      7) in the bottom options select COPY and start the copy, be careful to check the box that allows copying attributes and NTFS rights, the options menu allows choosing the behavior in case of overwrite if you need to interrupt and restart

      B) REINSTALLATION OF WINDOWS ON DISK C:
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      1) after the copy, restart the PC with the original Windows recovery CD
      2) delete the partition DO NOT use the recovery option of Windows IT DOES NOT WORK
      3) reinstall Windows to the end (base version, without updates, without internet, etc ...)
      4) reboot the PC with the internal hard drive IT SHOULD WORK OTHERWISE you need to change the disk or problem with the disk controller-motherboard, etc ...

      A) RESTORATION OF INITIAL CONTENT OF C:
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------
      1) reboot the PC with DRIVE IMAGE 7.0
      2) choose menu 1A
      3) from the menu choose TOTAL COMMANDER
      4) in the left window enter the SAVEC directory on the external disk and with CTRL A the system files that appear in red then each directory by clicking on it + pressing SPACE
      5) in the right window go to the root of disk C and delete EVERYTHING by selecting each directory and file and pressing DEL BE CAREFUL TO BE IN THE RIGHT WINDOW when deleting
otherwise you risk damaging your backup
      6) restore all the files with the COPY function ... don't forget the option for attributes and NTFS rights
      7) once finished ... REBOOT by removing the CD
      8) EVERYTHING SHOULD RETURN AS BEFORE...

      REMARKS:
      ---------------------

      1) DRIVE IMAGE 7.0 is not mandatory, any tool on CD or bootable media that allows booting to make copies of the entire disk while keeping the structures, hidden files, rights, and NTFS attributes will work. DRIVE IMAGE 7.0 is excellent for this. It allows much more ... so I recommend it.

      2) If disk C: is not visible or inaccessible after booting with DRIVE IMAGE 7.0 then you have little chance of recovering the data ... unless you physically install it on another PC as an external disk, for example.

      3) If you managed to make the copy but after/during the installation of Windows things go wrong ... then change the disk for a new one, and restart the procedure from point B)

      4) This method serves as a troubleshooting ... but I recommend changing the disk in the long run ... because in my case ... I regularly had this problem and after the 3rd time I cracked and replaced the disk.

There you go ... good luck ...

I know it's a bit long and you have to get DRIVE IMAGE 7.0 .... but if your data is essential, it's worth it, right?
    4. Hello, I don't have a disk with Windows 7, barely when I turn on the computer there's not even a startup message, just directly a disk read error occurred.
    5. Hello,
I wanted to know if all the steps in the giovari procedure are necessary? What I mean is that I have no way to back up the contents of C on an external hard drive. Even though it's annoying, I'm willing to give up my data. So, if I only execute part B, is it supposed to work?
      Thank you
