Old song

Hello,
I’m looking for the title and the music of the lyrics of this song
A car driver
A very handsome boy
Was tasked with driving the girl
Of his very rich boss
If I could reach the heart
Of this young heiress
It would suit me just fine
Said the clever driver.
Ah, the little one surely
Likes to joke
Up there on the road
I'm going to kiss her
At the risk of everything breaking,
I have to kiss her,
I have to kiss her
Or everything will blow up.
Driving skillfully,
He goes slowly
Then picking up speed
Like a hurricane,
We cross the villages
Breaking poles
Crushing in his path
Five cows and three calves
Ah the little one, surely
Taken by fright:
You’re going too fast,
Mr. driver.
But he, full of audacity
Replies without hesitation
I have to kiss you,
Or everything will blow up.
In a steep descent,
The car is going to jump,
Then the timid little one
Decides to give in
Kiss me, she says to him
According to your wishes
Pass me the crank
To slow down
Ah, and the car stops
Near the little woods
Slowing down,
Almost walking
The timid little one
Taken by fright
Alone on the main road
With the driver.
We traveled by car
Such a long way
That we only returned to the city
The next day.
Dad was furious
And in his rage
Condemned his daughter
To marry the driver
Ah, so much was said
About this adventure
Little by little
A baby was born
He wears on his head
The little joker
A little cap
Just like his dad the driver.

Hello,

Just like you, I know this song because my grandmother and my mother used to sing it at family gatherings. It's indeed become a symbol in our family. Here are the lyrics as my mother sings them currently:

The Driver

1.

A handsome driver
Was in charge of driving into town
The daughter of his boss
This rich heiress
If I won her heart
That would be my thing
thought the clever driver ..... AAAAAAAH !

This child no doubt
Loves to joke
Over there on the road
I’m going to make my move
At the risk of it breaking
I’m going to wrap her up
I must kiss her
Or everything will blow up

2.
First, with skill
he goes slowly
Then he doubles his speed
Like a hurricane
He crosses the villages
Breaking poles
Crushing in his path
Three cows and two calves ...... AAAAAAAH !

Soon the little one
Says in fear
You’re going too fast
Mr. Driver
But he, full of audacity
Replies unabashedly
I must kiss you
Or everything will blow up

3.
On a rapid slope
The car is going to sink
The very shy girl
Feels she’s going to give in
Kiss me, she cries
As you wish
Pass me the crank
To slow down ... AAAAAAAH !

When the car stops
Near the little woods
The beauty repeats
In her sweet voice
Let’s hurry
To start again
To fix the leak
In the flat tire

4.
We traveled such a long way
In the automobile
That we couldn’t get back to town
Until the next day
The dad was furious
And in his rage
Condemned to marriage
The beauty and the driver ... AAAAAAAH !

From this adventure
That I’ve told you
Everywhere I’m assured
That a baby was born
Wearing on his head
The little trickster
A nice cap
Like those of the drivers

I've been researching this song for a while, from the family of that lady who used to sing it at all the festive meals and who unfortunately passed away without anyone knowing the lyrics or the tune. The title is indeed "The Car Driver", it must date from post-war times, but I don't know the author. I've read some lyrics, but not all of them. The text ends well before the end of the song. Would it be possible for you to send it to me in full? Thank you in advance. Best regards. Good night.

Hello Patanana and everyone.
I'm also looking for the lyrics and text of this song,
that my sister used to sing at the top of her lungs in the 1940s/45
it should be possible to find the text by gathering our responses.
Everyone remembers some lyrics....I myself have the tune in my ear..and certainly some of you do too.
What interests me in Patanana's response is if she could inform us
and tell us the age of her grandmother and mother at that time.
That might help us find the performer.
There you go, I believe I've said everything.
While waiting for a response, I will continue to search.
Thank you all and to the Forum/Music/Radio see you soon

Hello, regarding the car driver:

I think the title is "the love driver"

I know it with lyrics similar to yours, but not quite identical (it’s my grandmother who used to sing it...) and I know the music, but I would need to transcribe it onto a sheet or record it.
However, I don't know the author. Charlus sang the title "the car driver," but it's not at all that song...

Have you received any other responses?
Thank you
Best regards,

Hello, I just read your message and I am also looking for the lyrics to this song. My father used to sing it often and I would like to have it in full because I only remember a few phrases:
a car driver
a handsome boy
was tasked with driving the daughter of a wealthy boss
oh the beautiful heiress
I could win her heart
that would suit me just fine
said the clever driver

then I have a gap

then I remember

we traveled by car such a long way
that we couldn't get back to the city until the next day
the dad was furious and in his rage
he married his daughter off to the driver

oh what a funny adventure
that I'm telling you
.............(I don't remember that part)
a little child was born
and on top of his head the little rascal
wore a cap like the driver's

that's all I remember. If you know the rest, please let me know

thank you

I sing this song that my mom taught me - and I am 82 years old - it is a song from the 1920s/30s. Many of the lines are not the ones indicated - I can send it to you by mail or sing it to you, but how, I’m just starting with the computer and... I’m trying
1 - A very handsome driver was tasked with taking the daughter of his rich boss to town. This young heiress, if I could take her heart, that would be quite the deal
thought the clever driver, ah, ah, ah, the little one surely loves to laugh over there on the road
I’m going to kiss her at the risk of everything falling apart, I have to kiss her
or everything will blow up. 2 - Driving with skill, he goes slowly at first, then picks up speed like a hurricane, crossing towns and villages, grazing the poles, crushing a cow and her calf in his path. Ah, ah, ah, the little girl exclaims, filled with fear
Don’t go so fast, Mr. Driver, but he, full of boldness, responds without hesitation
You have to kiss me or everything will blow up. 3 - On a slightly steep slope, the car
is going to somber. The young girl, a bit shy, starts to give in, kiss me, she tells him
as you wish, pass me the crank so I can slow down. Ah, ah, ah, the car stops at the edge of a small wood, the young girl repeats with her sweet voice hurry up and start again, fix the leak, the tire is flat. 4 - They took a very long drive
that they couldn’t get back to town until the next day. The dad was furious and in his rage ordered the marriage of his daughter and the driver. Ah, ah, ah, from this adventure that has been talked about everywhere, it is said that a baby was born wearing on his head, according to the joker, a nice little cap like the driver’s. Mimi

Here is the version of mom who is 80 years old.
A very handsome chauffeur said one day to drive the daughter of a wealthy boss, of this beautiful heiress. If I had the heart, it would suit me well, thought the sly chauffeur...! This child undoubtedly loves to laugh. There on the road, I'm going to kiss her. At the risk of breaking it, I'm going to wrap her up. I have to kiss her or I’ll make her jump. On a steep slope, the car goes slowly, then accelerating like a hurricane, crossing all the villages, breaking poles, crushing three cows and two calves in its path...! "Don't go so fast, Mr. Chauffeur," said the little girl, trembling with fear. But he, full of boldness, without hesitation, replied: "I have to kiss you or I’ll make you jump." On a steep slope, the car will yield. Very timidly, the little girl started to cry. "Kiss me," she said to him. "As you wish, pass me the crank to slow down." And the car stopped near a little wood. The beautiful girl repeated in her sweet voice, "Let’s hurry up and start over, let's fix the leak, the tire is flat." They traveled in the car such a long way that they had to return to the city the next day. The dad, who was furious and in his rage, condemned the beautiful girl to marriage with the chauffeur...! From this adventure that I just told you, everyone whispers that a baby is born, and on his big head, this sly joker wore a cap like all chauffeurs.

To please a 92-year-old friend who sings it without ever having heard the music, I tried to recreate the piece, played the melody on accordion, then sang it, trying to reproduce the style of the early twentieth century, and I synthesized the different lyrics. I will place the links here.. thank you, I am trying to respond to everyone so they can listen to my version, which I hope is faithful, but I don't really know how to reach everyone on this forum where the responses overlap..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnfRByN9z2s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDboFML8kNQ can give me their opinion..

I clarify that I am not a professional musician, but a simple amateur who enjoys composing, and that I had to try to find chords and a rhythm that could correspond to that era, which could be the early twentieth century, before 1910, considering that a "crank" was needed to steer the car, perhaps before steering wheels made their appearance.

Thanks to bugduche. The second link leads to a really nice sung version. Well done!

Someone else posted a YouTube video with a recording of their grandfather singing this song. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-P1pSrKqgs&feature=youtu.be

I just played your music for my mother (90 years old) who listened to this song a lot when she was young. She immediately recognized the melody and began to sing the song that her grandmother used to sing at family meals. Thank you very much for allowing her to reminisce about joyful moments.

Hello, the name of the song is "The Car Driver" by Daniel Cabuzel. However, be careful not to play this music near a women's conference...

I believe that Daniel Cabuzel is the author of the video mentioning this song, the link to which I provide here:

What year does it go back to?

I don't know about the years...
but I think the author (whom I don't know) lived from the 1880s to the 1970s (it's just an idea I've formed about the date based on the genre of this song).

About thirty years ago, my father-in-law had me learn it for St. Eloi. At that time, I was in Lorraine, but the years have passed and I've aged as well. I believe the lyrics are correct, but I can't help you with the melody. Sincerely, J.P. DELERY

My mother, who was born in 1929, sang it to us regularly. Unfortunately, we never knew who the performer of this funny song was. If someone could inform me, I would be very happy; it could help me place certain stories. Thank you.

My father sang it all the time, but I don’t know the title, and he was born in 1924. I don’t have the lyrics, but I have a video cassette. I will listen to it and write down the lyrics.

My grandmother used to sing it at family meals; she passed away 30 years ago at the age of 85, and my mom, who is now also 85, still sings it, but she doesn't remember the author or the year. I would really like to know who the author is. Thank you for thinking of me if you find out; that would be great.
