This song, titled "The Thieving Magpie," is by Jean Riondet - Music by P.G. Amiot. It was published in 1952 or 53 by the Editions du Scarabee in a small collection made by the instructors of CEMEA

I used to be a camp counselor and I often had the children sing this song.

Good evening, I have the lyrics to this song in my notebook from the time of the "nice summer camps" when I was a camp counselor.....

The rose on my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
Stealing from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never a rose just barely bloomed
I will never forgive her

Violet on my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
Stealing from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never a rose just barely bloomed
A violet just barely opened
I will never forgive her

Tulip on my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
Stealing from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never a rose just barely bloomed
A violet just barely opened
A tulip with a pipe head
I will never forgive her

Daffodil on my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
Stealing from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never a rose just barely bloomed
A violet just barely opened
A tulip with a pipe head
A daffodil with chamomile
I will never forgive her

Sun on my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
Stealing from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never a rose just barely bloomed
A violet just barely opened
A tulip with a pipe head
A daffodil with chamomile
A sun that marvels
I will never forgive her

Jasmine on my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
Stealing from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never a rose just barely bloomed
A violet just barely opened
A tulip with a pipe head
A daffodil with chamomile
A sun that marvels
A jasmine that is on its way
I will never forgive her

I suppose there must be variations.........
Kind regards!

I have an extra verse: a peony that struts ...
In my mind, it was a bit of free imagination!... I also remember "a primrose that loses its mind" (but I'm not sure this is part of the original lyrics, it was a song we used to sing in choir, a bit freely!)

Hi Monik
thank you for your reply. Someone gave me the references of a work that cites this song "La pie voleuse," but I can't find this title with the publisher.
Anyway, thanks again for your reply.
Do you like these old songs? Personally, I really do, but most people think it's outdated.
Hugs and maybe see you soon

I also know, "a daisy that goes fast," "a periwinkle that leans," and also "a tulip with a pipe head," but I don't remember the order. However, the peony or the primrose doesn't ring a bell for me at all...

There is also a daisy coming back from the party and a periwinkle that thinks itself …

I often sing it at camp :-)
Pipe-head tulip
Barely opened violet
A bit wilted pansy
Chamomile daffodil
Bucolic colchicum
Marshmallow that runs away
A sun that marvels

I learned this song in 1978/1979, my French teacher taught it to us. I was 9/10 years old, and today I still remember its lyrics. It was the good old days in primary school in Algiers.

Thank you all for the lyrics to this song, which I have been singing to my daughters since their birth. It’s a song I learned at school in 68 in French Guiana.

It's a pity that you didn't mention the other lyrics for the other flowers, I need them for children who remember well.

besides....for your children

tulip has a pipe head

and for the violet, we used to say ''violet coming back from the party will not forgive her.''

The rose at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
I will never forgive her

Periwinkle at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
I will never forgive her

Violet at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
I will never forgive her

Tulip at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
A pipe-headed tulip
I will never forgive her

Sun at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
A pipe-headed tulip
A marveling sun
I will never forgive her

Daisy at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
A pipe-headed tulip
A marveling sun
A daisy returning from the party
I will never forgive her

Colchicum at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
A pipe-headed tulip
A marveling sun
A daisy returning from the party
A bucolic colchicum
I will never forgive her

Thought at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
A pipe-headed tulip
A marveling sun
A daisy returning from the party
A bucolic colchicum
A slightly faded thought
I will never forgive her

Marshmallow at my belt
The magpie comes to steal from me
To steal from my belt
I will never forgive her
Never
A barely opened rose
A periwinkle that leans
A barely opened violet
A pipe-headed tulip
A marveling sun
A daisy returning from the party
A bucolic colchicum
A slightly faded thought
A marshmallow that escapes
I will never forgive her
Never
