I finally found the solution to fix the compatibility issue with controllers other than Xbox ones ;) !

It's over here https://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche70840-xpadder.html !!

You just need to install this software and configure it. Then you launch GTA, go to the options to set up the keyboard controls, but instead of pressing a key on the keyboard to assign a command, you press a button on the controller and ta-daaa magic, it works perfectly ;) !

Now we just have to wait for the patch to fix the graphical issues ;) !

Hi
for the controller I have a good tutorial:
https://www.zebulon.fr/dossiers/jeux-video/75-sixaxis-ps3-sur-pc.html
but for graphics, I don't know anything about it sorry

I have a Logitech controller for PC (RumblePad 2) and I'm having the same problem: GTA 4 doesn't recognize it!
It's really a bunch of **** from RockStar to force you to buy an Xbox 360 controller for Windows!!!

On the game's box, it says: "Supports Xbox 360 controller for Windows." They should've added: "...and no others."

It's really lame.

Maybe your graphics card doesn't support the game.

Same problem...

I have a PS3 controller but apparently the menu only allows playing with Xbox controllers?? That would be quite surprising...

Otherwise, for the graphics, I admit it takes up a lot ^^ I have a 8800GTS 512MB O/C from the factory and it doesn't run very well...

In any case, if anyone finds information for PS controllers, I'm all ears :D

Good luck!

Actually, the PC recognizes my PS2 controller but not the game GTA4.

I can use it for FIFA09....but not for GTA.

As for the graphics issues, while waiting for the fix, you should switch to medium or low settings and lower the traffic density a bit; that way, the game becomes a bit smoother ;) !

This is just a temporary solution; when the patch comes out, everything should return to normal, it seems the developers are working on it right now ;) !

Yes, that's what I did while waiting :( but the game is still very interesting :D

However, I can't get my controller (DualShock 3) to be recognized by the game... even with your software, and after making all the settings, nothing happens... :(

I also experienced lag in the game at the beginning with an 8800gt and e8200. I overclocked my CPU to 3.2 GHz and I get 40 FPS with max settings. The CPU is heavily utilized, so don't hesitate to boost it a bit.

There is another method for the controllers; you need to download dll files that allow you to emulate an Xbox 360. The problem is that I don't remember where I saw that :s!!! I'll take a look tonight and repost if I have the answer.

Hello everyone...

I just bought GTA 4 on PC, and unfortunately, I don't have an Xbox controller... Anyway

I've installed Xpadder, and I would like to know if it's possible with this little software to replace the directional keys which are: Q for going left and D for going right. I've managed to assign the actions associated with these keys to the X-axis of my controller; however, to turn, it's not smooth, it's too sensitive... the STEERING WHEEL turns all the way immediately...

Is there a way to set it so that the direction is progressive? That is to say, if I tilt a little to the left on my joystick, it turns a bit; if I tilt all the way, I turn all the way?

I don't know if I was clear... anyway, thanks to those who know Xpadder well for helping me =)

Sorry, I don't know enough about Xpadder to answer your question...

However, if you are patient enough, you can wait for the Rockstar patch that will apparently solve this compatibility issue :)
See here: https://www.clubic.com/actualite-244658-gta-iv-pc-solutions.html

"The patch will include a fix for crashes after the copyright screens, many improvements related to the video editor, a fix for shadow management on ATI 1900 cards, a fix related to the bowling phase (sometimes erratic mouse handling), better memory management, various graphical optimizations, greater compatibility with controllers."

Now we just have to wait for Microsoft to certify this patch, it’s a matter of days (or weeks...)

Hello, for the controller, you need to buy at least one controller that you can find at Carrefour (Logitech controller) for €14.99. And for the graphics, when you bought the game, you should have checked the system requirements. It might work if your specs are a bit lower, but not with the real graphics. You would need a setup that meets or exceeds the required configuration.
