Hello everyone,

I received an envelope with a four-leaf clover saying that I had been selected to win 500,000 euros. Sent by "Reader's Digest selection" which quite a few people know.

So I sat down at my computer and typed on super Google!!! And I came across your site, with lots and lots of reviews, advice. So I thought, hey, I’m going to participate in the draws by sending them this letter below.

Please let me know what you think.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am sending you my entry forms for the draws "GRAND PRIX," "MAXI WINNERS," "HAPPY BIRTHDAY," and "CASH RESERVE."

I also take the liberty of writing this letter to clarify things. After receiving your letter, I went online and saw that several people had been "scammed" by your company. Let me explain: they had sent back their entry forms in the "NO" envelope (as I just did) and still received magazines or other items.

I would like to remind you that in accordance with articles L 122-3 and following of the Consumer Code, we are not obliged to pay for goods or services provided without a prior order!!!!

If I receive anything that is not related to the "GRAND PRIX," "MAXI WINNERS," "HAPPY BIRTHDAY," and "CASH RESERVE" draws, I will report it to the DGCCRF as it would be a case of forced selling, which is anti-commercial behavior.

Additionally, on your site, we find this question/answer:
Do I have to buy a product to participate in the draws?
No. Participation is free, with no obligation to purchase. Each participant has an equal chance of winning, whether they order or not.

Still on your site (for this draw and others):
ARTICLE 2: Participation in the "MAXI WINNERS" draw is free and is not subject to any obligation to purchase or pay.

So do not harass me with letters, follow-ups, or packages. I just want to participate in the "GRAND PRIX," "MAXI WINNERS," "HAPPY BIRTHDAY," and "CASH RESERVE" draws. Do not send me anything else that concerns these draws.

Then I find for the GRAND PRIX draw:
ARTICLE 7: The draw for the winning number will take place on January 25, 2010, in the presence of bailiffs from SCP Everaere-Hermet-Debu in Antony.

On the letter you sent me: The draw for the winning number will take place on January 26, 2009! What is the correct date for the draw?

I have the right to access, rectify, oppose, and delete data in accordance with the "Computer and Freedoms" law of January 6, 1978. I do not wish to receive offers from other companies.

Please refund my postage costs at the regular rate in effect.

Hoping that my letter is understood,

Yours sincerely.

Hello, they harassed me with all these letters for months too.
I sent them a letter with acknowledgment of receipt telling them it was a scam and threatening to involve consumer associations.
Moreover, this company is based in Belgium and circumvents French laws.

They sent me an invoice for $26.00 and I didn't accept anything from them. I don't know how they do it, but I find it deplorable. I will send them a letter as well.

Hello,

It’s already January 3, 2009, and I haven’t received anything. (600,000 euros)
I am the only elected official in Finistère (my c...). You are scammers, and that’s putting it mildly.
Do not send me your ads anymore, or else...? I have kept the proof.

HAPPY SCAM 2009

I went all the way through the draw and bought everything because they said that if I buy, I have a better chance of winning. The big prize draw was on September 24, 2009, and it's been exactly 2 years since I've been waiting for this date. The winning number was drawn on that date, and still no news. Today is October 14, 2009. No news!!! I've called 3 times, and the operators tell me (You will get the answer by September 25, 2009, at the latest). After that date, I call back. They tell me they will call you if you win; otherwise, you will receive a letter by mail this week with the list of winners, but we know it's a woman. Still nothing!! I call again. I tell them that I have not received the letter; they tell me other things. Today, October 14, still nothing. In the contest rules, it states that 72 hours after the winning number is drawn, the winner should have the money in their possession. Is this a scam???? I’ll keep you updated on this, and if it is a scam or if they are not respecting a consumer law, I invite you to support me by gathering as much information as possible to bring them down, thank you. Those who know about the laws are welcome; I have kept all their letters, even those that have nothing to do with it. From the first to the last, I have them all, thank you. And this only if it is a scam, and I can’t wait to see the list of winners if they do come out with one this year. Thank you.

Hello, I just received this famous letter (January 2012), do you have any news since all this time? These practices annoy me and I want to do something, thank you for responding.

I also received an envelope two months ago, telling me that if I ordered something, I would participate in a lottery for one million euros. I ordered a book on tips, and a week ago, I received a note saying I am a potential winner; I have been drawn to win 500,000 euros, the only one in all of Hérault. This surprises me because in Hérault, we are millions of inhabitants. Supposedly, I will receive an envelope for the lottery, and I will have to answer some questions, and certainly order another article. I am willing to order an article for thirty euros, but no more, to participate in this so-called lottery that I suppose will never happen because this is a pure scam to make us buy. Nevertheless, ordering for thirty euros is not financially ruinous; you attach a check, but under no circumstances should you sign for a direct debit from your account because that is where this scam begins, I suppose. It becomes forced selling, I suppose.

All the envelopes that I receive from them, well I reply without a stamp and without a purchase, I really think it's a scam to make consumers out of the buyers, the so-called winners must certainly be from their family, when they hand over the check, and the check is never cashed, yesterday they called my house, I was sleeping, it was my son who answered, they asked him if I was there to receive my check, this is marketing, everything is organized to make you believe that you have won, but you have to buy to participate in the big draw, which must be a vulgar scam anyway, I will never subscribe and I will never give my credit card number online, the best thing is to tell them that you don't have a bank account, that you are paid in cash for your salary and retirement, then they will leave us alone with their misleading advertising, because they will have no means of withdrawal.

Like everyone else, I replied to the letter I received to try my luck. €500,000 is a nice amount, especially since there is no commitment. The draw is on January 26, 2009. Like you, I'm typing on my computer to get a response. Unfortunately, I received a book that I did not order; thanks to you, I will return it with a letter that will certainly be negative. Thank you for the information.

I too responded to the various messages, thinking I could be the winner of the €660,000. I was even waiting for a phone call on Monday, January 26th. We are now on Wednesday, January 28th, and I have to face the facts: I've been completely scammed. I will no longer buy anything from Reader's Digest selection.

They took more than 200 euros from me with their books. Today is January 30, and they haven't even told me who won.
They are real bandits. Be careful with this selection name next time and tell your loved ones.

Hello,

The Reader's Digest scam has gone on long enough. A solution needs to be found to stop them, as people are receiving books they did not order. And worst of all, they are sent to collections if they do not pay. We are still waiting for the names of the winners from 2008 and they dare to continue into 2009. This message is addressed to the scammers at Reader's Digest.

Thank you, thank you, I looked at the comments from people and indeed I went to their site.

They can send me whatever they want, I will write "RETURN TO SENDER" on the envelope and that way they will stop in the long run.

But I want to see if they take my letter into account or if they are going to send me books or something else.

I will keep you updated.

Hi mimidu

I also received the finalist letter, the only one in Finistère. After that, they will offer to lend you money. Be careful.

Hello Reader's Digest selection; after reading all the testimonials from your clients who were disappointed by the promises you made them about making a lot of money, I would like to advise you to stop your forced sales system and lying to your clients because you could put yourself in danger; I am really afraid and feel pity for you about what could happen next. You could even risk losing all your clients who used to love buying your products and find yourself with nothing. There are many misfortunes for people who engage in fraudulent activities, "says heaven." Thank you for your understanding.

Me too, I'm waiting for the results of the draw as well as the list of winners from January 26, 2009.
I don't think this is a scam because the bailiffs mentioned exist in the Yellow Pages; I'll call them tomorrow for confirmation.

Hello everyone

I also received this letter to win €550,000, and like you, I was eager to know the results, so I called to find out more. They told me that the results would be visible online around February 24 and that the check handout would take place around March 13, 2009, but as of today, there's still nothing on their site. Scam or not???!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great, I see that this issue is still ongoing; it's 2012 and they're still sending their letters, it's outrageous. And there are still poor guys who are going to get taken in.

I too received these offers. And Mr. Julien Lepers is making headlines with this pure fraud!!
It's a shame, we are already being financially taken advantage of in life, but if well-known people get involved too.
Well then!! Long live France!!
Thank you.

Hello,

yes, how can we associate ourselves with this pure scam? I finally received the famous envelope and as if they were afraid I wouldn’t get it, I received it twice.... ripped it all up and threw it in the trash... where it truly belongs.

As you say... long live France....

Hello Reader's Digest Selection Isabelle.
Yesterday, in the afternoon, you called me on the phone with my 10-year-old son who has a hard time communicating on the phone! Because of our parents' hearing problems/misunderstandings. Attention: Phone!! You can only call me instead of Fax or email.
Do you speak on the phone!! I would like to know your answer. Thank you
Best regards, Descôtes David and Séverine

All the CDs, magazines, and advertisements you receive from Reader's Digest can be returned if you don't want to pay later. I received 3 books with an amount to pay later, and it says that it is refundable.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU ALL AND IT'S BEEN YEARS THEY TELL ME THAT I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN MY VILLAGE TO BE THE WINNER. OF COURSE, AT FIRST, I ORDERED BOOKS FROM THEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY, I NEVER WIN.
BEWARE, THIS IS A SCAM.

Hello everyone,

the best plan to stop them from sending you ads is that when you receive their ads, there is usually always an envelope in which you can send your response or order. Well, I use it differently. I cut their ads into small pieces and put everything back into the un-stamped envelope, of course, and without a recipient's address. That's what I did for 3 Suisses or La Redoute, and it worked!!!

Grab your scissors!!!!

Good luck

Good evening, in the letter it didn't mention anything about watching anything.

It's strange but since I sent my letter I haven't received anything from them regarding the draws!!!

Hello! We too have a problem with Reader's Digest, actually it's not us, but my 92-year-old mother-in-law who believes—and is convinced—that she is going to win. She is overwhelmed with books and CDs of all kinds; she accepts everything. She recently moved into a nursing home, and now it's a disaster! She is convinced that she is going to win. She responds to all the mail (she used to be a teacher, she loves to write); it has become an obsession. She doesn't want to hear anything and hides all the bills from us.
But here’s the thing, she is going to change facilities, and we are taking care of the move, and that’s when we realized she was hiding tons of boxes of books, some of which are unopened! She is unable to tell us what she owes them because we want to cancel. We don’t know her financial situation because until now, she was fully capable of managing her accounts. Recently, my brother-in-law has been taking care of it, but it’s difficult for him to know what she owes. She seems to have sent them a bank account details.
If we cancel in her name, does it have any legal value?
I don’t think we can talk about abuse of trust concerning a vulnerable person, as my mother-in-law is not under guardianship, and her condition does not require it (I’m starting to wonder!).
I think I'll print your messages and show them to her!
Thank you. See you soon.

I know a guy who lived through the same situation... he took all the unopened packages, drove from Lévis to Montreal to the head office of Sélection, explained the situation to them, and said, "You will refund me everything or I will accuse you of having taken advantage of my mother's naivety..." Well, they refunded him more than $1,000.00 in cash... Conrad Labonté, Lévis, Quebec, Canada. It would be good to expose such abuses in the media because I think it's exploitation of older and vulnerable people by dangling the lure of profit in front of them...

Hello,

On December 31, nothing. I didn't receive my 600,000 euros.

I'll wait until January 26. Then, oh then, you bunch of bastards... I'm coming over to collect my money.

I'm waiting for the results of the draws, you scammers.
I have a project to build thirty homes for the homeless.

Hello,

I ordered the book "The Guide to the Road 2008" from Reader's Digest. I paid for it and received the book, but they haven't stopped sending me their ads since then. I even received a book and aluminum spoons once without ordering anything with an invoice.

I sent them an email telling them that I intended to return this package at their expense.
That's what I did.

In my opinion, Reader's Digest selections are throwing banknotes in the mail with their advertising, and I don't think this can be profitable for them since their ads are not targeted. They send them out indiscriminately.

Fabien
