Hello everyone,
I hope I'm in the right forum...
Here's my problem: my computer screen keeps "jumping", it has interference like static, as if my laptop were right next to me and about to ring... It does this at irregular intervals, more or less strong, whether it's on or off.
My PC is an ACER 5920 (only a month old). I have a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family card. And I got rid of Vista to install XP instead (I don't know if that has anything to do with it but just in case...).
I've already uninstalled the drivers, done a virus scan, and then reinstalled the drivers without any results.
Finally, Acer's hotline advised me to completely reformat my PC... I must admit that if I could avoid that, it would be great!!
So, if anyone has any ideas, it would be really awesome!
Thanks in advance!

Excuse me for being such a pain, but what is the number to contact Acer customer service? I live in France.
Good evening Rangia
I called the number 09 69 32 03 42. I found it on the ACER website. It is free when calling with Free. I don't know about the other ISPs
Otherwise, there is 0825 00 22 37 (€0.15 including VAT per minute)

Hello
CORRECTION
The number 09 69 32 03 42 is no longer free...
I am having problems again with my screen flickering, 4 months after being repaired at ACER's customer service.
I was satisfied with the quick turnaround as my Acer 5920G was returned to me within the week.
So I called the number 09 69 32 03 42. I waited 22 minutes until the following message: "Our lines are busy, please leave your phone number, we will call you back within 48 hours." Since September, I am still waiting!
But above all, I was very surprised that the number 09 69 32 03 42 (free) that I dialed on my phone, appeared on my FREE bill as the number 0825 32 03 21, and I was charged 0.341€, probably when I accessed the message.
I was never informed that this message was chargeable.
Like many others, I am disappointed with ACER's customer service. I just bought a computer for my daughter, and I immediately ruled out ACER and bought her a Toshiba. My son has had one for 4 years, without any problems, and yet he takes it everywhere and doesn't take particular care of it.

Thank you, I will call tomorrow and if they are closed it will be for Monday.
Another question, I bought my Acer from a seller, he ordered it online and I just had to wait for him to receive it at his shop to go pick it up. The problem is that I don't have a warranty, he didn't give me one actually. So it's not going to work if I want to send my PC to them...?

Damn, it's getting worse and worse, even changing the screen's angle, it's almost fully unfolded, I don't know what to do, I don't have a warranty even though I bought it less than a year ago, my seller isn't open until Monday! :'( :'(
Hello Rangia
How come you don't have a warranty, you must have an invoice!
As for me, my Acer Aspire 5920G was sent on Friday, May 22, 2009, by Chronopass and it was returned repaired on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, by Chronopost. The image no longer glitches and there was a BIOS update
I included a photocopy of my invoice and the case number that was assigned to me by phone in the shipping box.
I hope you find your invoice!
Good luck

I didn't see your message TREP but even when I move the screen very slowly it still glitches. Right now, I've got the screen almost all the way down, if it messes up with the screen down all the way then I'm in trouble... But anyway, I went to see my seller (who's back from vacation ><). Tomorrow I have to go back to see him, he's going to call Acer and I'm going to receive the chronopass. After that, I'll just have to go back to him so he can pack my computer and it will be shipped. I'll receive my PC at home once it's repaired.
I hope the repair won't take a month... :'(

Good evening, I had a screen flickering issue too, and I accidentally solved it by overclocking the graphics card (with RivaTuner), no more problems since. I must say it’s much more relaxing... ;)
Good evening,
I have the same screen flickering problem with my Acer Aspire 5920.
I may seem silly, but since it's under warranty, should I send it to Dary for service or call Acer to send it directly (is there a cost)?
Thank you

Hello Judbox
I bought my Acer at Auchan. When I went to customer service, they told me to contact Acer's support directly, which I did. I included Acer's customer service phone numbers in a message on the previous page; if you need any other information, leave a message here, and I will reply, I receive messages by email.

Hi, so here's my screen problem is solved. Last Tuesday, as I was passing in front of the computer store, my seller had received my PC.
It was sent on June 22-23 and I picked it up on July 2nd. A bit long considering the 5 days from
colline62. :/
It was indeed an LCD cable issue, a failure of the part, I received a report confirming this.
I hope it won't take 2 months and then boom! trouble again...
Goodbye!

Hello everyone,
From everything I've read, I must have the same problem but perhaps less pronounced.
Indeed, my screen "jumps" about every 5 minutes (that's an average; it can happen 10 times in 2 minutes or just once in two hours), but if I move it a bit quickly, it works again for an unpredictable amount of time.
The problem is that unlike you, I own an Aspire 7730Z and not a 5920g. Do you think it's still the same issue, meaning the LCD cable, which would suggest that Acer has quite a lot of problems with this cable across different models, or could it be of a different origin?
And do you also think that I should send it to customer service, which I really don't want to do, or that these problems won't worsen (since I can still manage with it)?
Thanks in advance for your responses as I've had this computer since Christmas and it's been doing this since April, so it's really frustrating...

Hello JEHRA
It's hard to say if the problem is the same and if it will get worse!
I bought my Aspire 5920 a year ago. After about 5 months, the screen image started flickering. At first, it was occasional and then it happened more and more often.
To deal with the issue, I would move the screen, but when I sent it back for repair, I sometimes struggled to stabilize the image because it was flickering so much, even by moving the screen; then it would sometimes stop for 10 or 15 minutes and then start again; sometimes the image flickered as soon as I turned on my computer!
In fact, it was quite irregular.
That's the information I can give, I don't know if it helps you..

I have a G520 machine with the same issue of a flickering screen. I carefully removed the cover around the screen. After moving all the wires with a small screwdriver, I noticed that the black electrical wire at the bottom left, which connects the screen to the keyboard, caused the screen to flicker when it was pushed upward.
Solution: I placed a small piece of synthetic foam to keep it lower, and now the image doesn't flicker anymore. We put it back together, did a few tests to be sure, and since then, no problems.

Yes, I experience this systematically at startup until it asks for my password. However, once it’s on, it’s very random. Do you think it could be due to the heat?
I live in Var (so it’s hot^^), my computer is in my bedroom on the top floor just under the tiles and there is no air conditioning. So I've noticed that when it’s over 30°C in the room, it happens much more often and regularly than when it’s (only) 25°C like today.
Do you think it’s just a coincidence or is there a connection between these two factors?

Hello JEHRA
I think that if the phone is still under warranty, it would be better to send it back to customer service.
That's what I did in May and I haven't had any issues since. In fact, I noticed that it heats up less than before.
You need to call them first. They send a label for the return of the phone. My computer was sent back to me in less than a week. I included the phone numbers in one of the previous messages.
Good luck!

I think it’s still under warranty, but I really don’t want to send it to customer service when I see that in some cases it takes more than a month to come back...
Let’s just say I’m very "attached" to my computer and I can manage without it for a week but not a month.
Anyway, I’ll decide at that moment if the problem gets worse. In any case, thank you for your clear and quick responses.
Have a nice day.

So to summarize the situation with the information from the forum:
The Aspire 5920g by ACER has been affected by the same display issue that jumps or flickers since at least JULY 2008 (my PC is one of them, I bought it in September 2008) and it's still happening now. However, Acer has not recorded any functional problems with this series since 2008, despite the increasing calls and letters requesting repairs for almost every Aspire 5920g regarding the LCD cable.
I would even go so far as to say that they seem to have changed the cable on my machine, but despite this operation, just two months after getting it back from customer service (unlike some testimonies, my computer took over a month to return from ACER against the maximum two weeks announced), my screen just started acting up again about 5 hours ago, even worse than before the service (that's saying something).
The best part is that my warranty expired just a week ago (isn't that nice?).
Acer claims not to have recorded any problems with the range. Aren't they just mocking us, excuse my language? Is it not possible to contact a consumer association to defend our rights against such a scam? Because apparently hundreds of people seem to be affected by this malfunction, and the company doesn't seem bothered by the numerous testimonies it receives while pretending not to know.
PS: Once my current computer has given up the ghost, I will never buy or recommend, and I will even dissuade anyone I know from buying any product from the ACER brand, which ultimately only has price as a selling point.

Hello
And here is my Acer 5920G screen flickering again...
My warranty expired at the end of July 2009.
I sent it back in May 2009 for the same issue
I was really pleased with the speed of the customer service because: the sending + the repair + the return only took a week!
I tried to call them, but after 15 minutes of waiting, I was asked to leave my phone number. They said they would call me back within 48 hours. I've been waiting for over a week now.
I will therefore reach out to a consumer organization because I believe there is a hidden defect. Has anyone already taken steps, as we could group together and address the same association?
We could create a new discussion where everyone puts their username, specifies the purchase date, and the issue.
What do you think?

I have an ASUS and I also have some frying issues. I used to have a SIEMENS, and I also had frying problems!
So... there is a mystery that is difficult to unravel. I don’t dare take apart the screen (and I don’t know how!), but I removed the battery and raised the computer on pads so it heats less (air can circulate underneath). I also cleaned it regarding dust, but also in terms of
downloads, useless files, programs, etc.....
It seems to be working better now.....

Same problem with my parents' all-in-one Sony PC (screen/computer). It starts with small colored dots, then when I scroll through the content of a window, it gradually turns into a mess of tiny dots of all the colors (those present in the window), as if the screen refresh is bugging. Could it be that the graphics card doesn't handle the heat produced by the screen very well?
Otherwise, I'm also strongly recommending against the ACER brand, especially in light of the various problems mentioned here. The brand seems to be plagued by all sorts of issues. Mine, an Aspire x3200 that's less than four years old, regularly freezes for no reason, forcing me to do a hard reboot by unplugging the power cord. This problem also seems to be recurring with this brand. In short: ACER should be avoided.

I am exactly in the same situation as you, except for the dates, and I am ready to support you in your approach, or even accompany you.
Hello
I just started a new discussion to update the topic on "Acer 5920G, flickering screen".
I will see if there are many responses.
At the same time, I'm writing to 60 million consumers to join an association.
I will provide information when I have it.

Heu, if you could provide a direct link to this new discussion page, it would be much more practical than having to search for it :)

I have the same problem with my computer which is barely 1 year old. I just saw tonight that the screen was "flickering" in a worrying way, which it didn't do this afternoon! It's an HP Pavilion dv5 1155ef... What can I do? The icon representing the battery indicates that it's completely dead even though I'm plugged in, but when I click on it, it obviously shows that I'm at 100%! It hasn't happened since I typed this cry for help... but come on, it's brand new for crying out loud! I restarted it and it happened again almost instantly
Help, I'm awful with computers and all this freaks me out
I've never dropped it or anything
I installed Sims 3 on it (which is frankly not great, so if I need to delete it, no problem!) so it's known to eat memory, but still, my computer isn't an antique (well in my opinion, I know that after 3 months a computer is no longer "good," but no one changes theirs every three months!)
Thanks in advance

My husband just took apart the screen of my laptop. He didn't touch anything. He put it back together and there's no more flickering images.
Yet it was getting worse and it was really starting to annoy me.
And now even when I move the screen, I have no problems at all
A big thank you for your intervention
