Hello everyone,
I hope I'm in the right forum...
Here's my problem: my computer screen keeps "jumping", it has interference like static, as if my laptop were right next to me and about to ring... It does this at irregular intervals, more or less strong, whether it's on or off.
My PC is an ACER 5920 (only a month old). I have a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family card. And I got rid of Vista to install XP instead (I don't know if that has anything to do with it but just in case...).
I've already uninstalled the drivers, done a virus scan, and then reinstalled the drivers without any results.
Finally, Acer's hotline advised me to completely reformat my PC... I must admit that if I could avoid that, it would be great!!
So, if anyone has any ideas, it would be really awesome!
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone
I found a solution on YouTube that's better than customer service, since November 12, 2009:

You need to take apart the screen's plastic and put it back together. Miracle! No more flickering,
I didn't do anything special, didn't touch the wires or anything, just took apart and reassembled the casing
my screen was also flickering before, especially when there was a lot of black in the background.
Pay attention during the video, you don't need to understand English.
Good luck.

An artifact is a point or a line of breakage on your screen, often due to poor stability of the graphics card.
To check if you have artifacts:
download ATI TOOL
run the artifact scan
let it run
if it beeps, it means you are not stable
if you see yellow points appearing during the test, then the frequencies are poorly adjusted.

@swatclem: I tried to take screenshots but the noise doesn't show up on the jpg...
And sorry but... what are artifacts?
@Pacos06: For the monitor, I'm not sure how to do that, we're all on laptops... I'll try to find that out anyway.
As for my appliances, I only have the TV on standby. Even turned off, the noise appears...

1 Define whether it's the monitor or your PC! Borrow a monitor, or go to a friend's who has a PC with your monitor
2 See if a power line filter could solve the problem
3 Check if you have any appliances that are messing you up... unplug everything and test only your PC

For those experiencing the same issue, it was indeed the LCD cable that was acting up. I got my PC back (almost a month and a half later - sic!!) and everything is going well (for now...)!
I have the same problem and I think I've found a rather "hacky" solution, but it seems to work:
I just move my screen a little bit forward or backward and it stops the screen flicker...
Well, it doesn't solve the problem permanently, but at least it's a solution for this issue.
Maybe it's simply a loose connection related to the screen hinges...

Hello Marc,
Well, after reformatting my computer, the problem persisted...
So I resigned myself to sending it in for repair; apparently, it's an issue with the LCD cable.
A little info about the repair service... I sent it on November 27 with a return time of 2 to 3 weeks.
Three weeks later, still nothing, so I called.
"Yes, we received your computer on the 27th, we've been waiting for the part since the 28th..."
With a bit of luck, they might have ordered several, and you won’t have to wait as long! :)

It's more than a temporary solution...
That's what I was doing at first too, but using your phone halfway closed or fully open is better!
And in my case, towards the end it was useless, the glitches persisted. The only solution was to change the LCD cable!
We must have gotten a bad batch!!! :)

Good evening,
After our conversation on this forum, I contacted customer service. I received confirmation that it was the LCD cable. From there, customer service sent me a Chronopost shipping voucher, I returned my laptop and great, 10 days later it came back via carrier with the LCD cable replaced! I have nothing to say about the efficiency of ACER's customer service (Well, I must admit you had paved the way nicely before!!)
Thanks again for your advice
See you later
Marc

Hello,
I've been experiencing exactly the same problem as you for some time now. My PC (Acer 77302) is 10 months old and this had never happened before.
I informed Acer, and they sent me a message with three solutions that, for my part, are very complicated. I prefer not to touch the configuration, or anything else for that matter.
I will talk to my retailer and wait for what they suggest.
If you have any information, please pass it on to me.
Best regards

Do you have any photos???
Otherwise, it might be the graphics card that’s acting up
Are those artifacts??

or sometimes it's the little fan that's dusty :p (well, if like me you have two screens and only one is doing it, either the screen is messing up (or dying) or the plug might be coming loose, that's possible too :p )
(for example, I'm wondering if it might not be my speakers because now they're crackling more and the screen is fine) :p (yet it doesn't make a sound when one of my neighbors receives a text message, unlike the black "genius" that I put back in their box after a day of testing :p )
just in case, I found on other forums that someone changed their vga/dvi adapter for a dvi cable and since then there have been no more interference.

Hello,
I am encountering the same problem with an Acer Aspire 5920G that is a few months old. Have you been able to resolve this issue?
Thank you
Best regards
Marc

For the key, it happened to me once with the "S"; it took me no more than 5 minutes to put it back; you just need to be careful and put it back in place..
As for the jumping screen; if I don't get a response, I'm going to lose it knowing my warranty has expired.. :@

I just needed to put it back in place and press gently, and it went back in place.
The warranty on my PC was one year... and it expired in February. So I never got to take it to the service center.
I'm really bummed out, and the solution of taking the screen apart freaks me out a bit, so there's no other option u_u otherwise I'll end up taking it to a PC repair shop, and I feel like it's going to cost me a lot...

Here, I had the same problem a few months ago
Of course, when I sent it to Acer, they didn't find anything and the image wasn't flickering... (it must not have flickered at the right time)
They told me they had unplugged and replugged the display cables...
I received it back 4 weeks later and it worked fine for 2 weeks and then the problems came back
Today I'm getting in touch with Acer... we'll see.. I'll tell them it's probably the LCD cable..
I recorded the problem and left the video on the Windows desktop...
We'll see, hoping the problem doesn't come back for you
Nico

Even Acer 5920G, after four months, the same screen flickering issue!
Thank you for bringing the solution here! It’s a problem with the LCD CABLE, not as bad as a graphics card issue, I initially thought it was a tropical overheating...
In the meantime, I changed the screen tilt axis and for now, it’s better...
Bought in Quebec, I’m in Guadeloupe for a few more months.
Who should I contact for service?
Can someone please guide me to a webpage (or a specific phone number)?
Thanks, everyone! ;)

Hello everyone, same Acer 5920G PC so obviously the same problem.
But it's even worse for me, I actually sent the PC back around Christmas 2008 (I bought the PC in September 2008) via Fnac's customer service, it came back to me 3 weeks later with, like you, a problem resolved due to the LCD cable (they specify that a refurbishment was carried out) but since about 15 days to a month ago, the same issue has reappeared, so I’m really annoyed.
What should I do? Does anyone know how to do the fix themselves and explain it? Or should I send it back to customer service once again since it's still under warranty???
Thanks for your advice or help.

Probable hypothesis: Acer repaired the PC with the same faulty design LCD cable. The same problem will therefore arise again in the long run.
Solution: Acer needs to repair the PC with a modified design LCD cable or, if that is not possible, provide a new computer to those affected by this defect...
Personally, while waiting for the repair, I have been dealing with this problem for a few months now. When the screen starts flickering, which usually happens when I turn on the PC, I slowly adjust the angle until I find a stable position (it seems that the cable gets stuck in the hinge). Once stabilized, the screen is usually fine until the next opening.
Apart from this damn issue, I love my Acer Aspire 5920G. But I too aspire to a lasting solution!
Grouping: If Acer cannot resolve the issue, all owners of an Acer 5920G should come together to put pressure on the company. Does anyone have the time to form this group via a blog, for example?

If I were you, I would send the PC in for repair.
As inconvenient as it may be, it's the only solution. I've also gone through the phase of "I adjust the screen whenever it flickers," but that's really not a solution.
And most likely, the problem isn't even inherent to ACER and could come from their supplier who sent defective LCD cables.
Take advantage of the warranty and send it back! :)

Yo,
THE SAME, Acer 5920g is really not serious, if it's a generic problem they could have issued a slight statement.
I bought my pc a few months ago, at first I also thought it was the graphics card, but after some tests and research on forums, it’s definitely the hardware that is the issue.
I noticed it jumps a lot more in the presence of black (who knows why ;))

+1 for TREP
I confirm that by changing the angle axis it works perfectly (but for how long...)

Hello
I also have the same problem with my Acer Aspire 5920G purchased in July 2008.
The screen started flickering a few months ago. At first, it was slight, but for the past few weeks, it has been getting worse.
So, it's going to the repair service, but is it useful if they replace it with the same cables...?

I called Acer's customer service who will send me a label for the free shipping of my laptop. The person I spoke to didn't seem surprised and didn't ask me to do any troubleshooting
Normally it shouldn't take more than 20 business days excluding shipping time..
I will keep you updated as events unfold.

Hi,
Well, I am also a victim of this problem. I've had my PC, the Acer 5920, since September 2008 and about 3 months after that damn bug appeared. At first, I was scared, but I found out that the problem could be solved by lowering the screen. However, for the past few days, the problem has worsened; I have the screen almost all the way open, if I may say it’s not practical to surf on it. -_-
Thanks to you, or at least it seems that way, the problem doesn't seem too serious since it's a LCD card issue, so tomorrow I'm going to take my PC to my vendor. It better be fixed and not appear again! :(

Well, I called Acer's customer service, I really thought they had documented this issue with the 5920g. It seems to me to be a flaw across the entire range; it's impossible they wouldn't be aware of it. Yet, the technician checked the issues related to this range but found nothing. I think Acer is being disingenuous and trying to hide the problem.
In any case, I'm sending it as soon as possible. They say it should be resolved within 15 days.
Kiss

So for me it's a short-term solution, because the real problem must come from the power supply to the screen, or the transfer of information to the screen.. So electrical cables.
Personally, I also have an Acer but a 6530G.
