WIFI DETECTION ISSUE ON REALTEK

Hello,

I'm sorry if I'm expressing myself poorly, but I have a new computer and I'm facing a little problem that I can't resolve on my own.

I just got a TOSHIBA SATELLITE L350D laptop, with built-in Wi-Fi and Windows Vista.
The problem is that it doesn't recognize this Wi-Fi key which is indeed on the "on" position in its slot.
I then tried to install it with the CD-ROM of my Livebox and the following message appeared: "no Wi-Fi interface detected. If your PC is equipped with a Wi-Fi interface, please activate it."

If someone knows where this interface is... it would be really nice.. I'm desperate... :(
I've tried to look for a driver for my network card: driver realtek RTL 8102E PCI-E FAST ETHERNET NIC (NDIS 6.0)... but I couldn't find it....

That's it.. thank you
Configuration: vista

    Hello again,

I just followed your instructions up to Device Manager, but afterwards I did all the "+" and I don't see XXXX Wireless Network Adapter (with "Wireless" meaning "without wire")... is that normal???

    Hello!

You should have a keyboard shortcut to enable WiFi: check your manual..

Otherwise, your network card "realtek RTL 8102E PCI-E FAST ETHERNET NIC" is NOT a WiFi network card, but for a wired Ethernet connection. So updating the driver is useless in this specific case.

First, look for your WiFi card:
    Start/control panel/system/hardware tab/device manager/
Click on the "+" next to network adapters to expand the list of cards.
Look for a card (other than the previous one) that looks like "XXXX Wireless Network Adapter" (Wireless meaning "wireless")
Double-click on it to access its properties. THEN:

In the "General" tab, at the bottom of the window, check that you have "Use this device (enabled),
and that the DEVICE STATUS is "working properly" THEN:

You should have an "Advanced" tab:
Click on it to select the property "Radio On/Off"
In the drop-down list at the bottom, choose the value "ON"

Then click OK in all the windows that are still open.

    See you!

    Good evening,

To shed some light on your question, the complete list of cards I find in the network cards only includes the name I gave you earlier, which is:

realtek RTL 8102E PCI-E FAST ETHERNET NIC (NDIS 6.0)

There is nothing else referring to 802.11.. :( :( :(

As for the second point you mentioned, it's true that it's confusing.. all I can tell you is that on my PC there is a sticker that says "wifi certified"... :( I'm really unlucky with computers.. :(

    Hi
On the Toshiba website, there is a description of the L350D. They indicate that the Wi-Fi on/off switch is located on the side of the laptop, at the front facing the lower left corner of the left touchpad button.

    Kaiser Sose,

Thank you for the website, I saw in the computer specifications and the elements that correspond to what Nyctaclope said, namely:

    Wireless communication Compatibility: Wi-Fi®
    Supported protocols: 802.11b/g
    Wireless technology: Wireless LAN

But the problem, Kaiser Sose, is that my Wi-Fi seems to be disabled and I can't activate it.

Now that I think about it, the error message I mentioned earlier: "no Wi-Fi interface has been detected. If your PC is equipped with a Wi-Fi interface, please enable it"... when I look at the detailed specifications, how is it that in the listed interfaces they don't mention Wi-Fi... :

Interfaces 1 x Power connector (DC)
    1 x External monitor (VGA)
    1 x RJ-11 Modem
    1 x RJ-45 Ethernet
    1 x External microphone jack
    1 x Headphone jack (stereo)
    3 (2 on the left, 1 on the right) x USB 2.0
1 x Integrated VGA Webcam with built-in microphone (data taken from the Toshiba website)

    Re

Thank you to Kaiser Sose for the additional information provided.

It seems that your laptop should indeed come with a built-in WiFi connection; however, the corresponding component is not listed in the network cards, which explains the lack of connection possibility.
You should confirm this feature by checking for the small ON/OFF switch on the front of the laptop.

You do have a wired Ethernet connection (which corresponds to the interface indicated as "1 x Ethernet RJ-45"), and you should find the connector on the side of your PC (most likely on the bottom right corner), and the card (the only one) is indeed listed among the devices.

As for the WiFi, it is not an issue of activation that hasn't been done, but it appears as though the component is missing. I fear that it may be damaged. If it were simply disabled, it would be listed among the devices, mentioned as not functioning or disabled, and the issue would be minor.

The fact that it does not appear in the "interfaces" may be normal, as there is no "physical" port to plug something in (like a cable, a microphone, etc.). It all depends on what one calls an interface.

The Toshiba should come with a manual. Re-read it. You should find mention of the key combination to turn the WiFi on or off (for me it’s Fn + F2). Try this combination and see if the little light corresponding to the WiFi lights up. But the small switch must also be in the ON position.

However, in my opinion, and I sincerely hope to be mistaken, there is a hardware issue that needs to be reported to customer service. If they argue, insist on having a demonstration of the WiFi connection.

    Talk soon

    Nyctaclope

P.S.: Last minute: I just checked on my laptop that the WiFi switch in the OFF position did not make my WiFi card disappear from the list of devices. A completely silly hypothesis, I acknowledge, but it’s still better to check...

      Hello again,
      It finally works...
I was so confused that I ended up calling the hotline.

And they told me the same thing as before, it was indeed on the computer but not installed.

I just had to go to:

      - computer
      - vista C:
      - toshiba
      - drivers
      - Wlan

      and install SETUP.EXE

      just like that...

There, I'm writing down the steps to follow... it might help someone as clueless as me... :(

And I thank everyone who helped me... who knows, see you soon.. LOL

I had the same problem. I didn't find the "setup.exe" right away either, and it turns out it's not in the "WLan" folder, but in the "Realtek" folder within "WLan." An overlooked sub-folder, and we think it doesn’t work.
I installed it, and the driver appeared in the network adapters in the device manager.
Thank you very much, in any case. Your problem was the same as mine, and I managed to solve it thanks to this forum.

In this case, I am asking for your help because following a severe formatting of my PC, I had to reinstall it using a CD-ROM from another PC (Fujitsu Siemens).
        Anyway, that's not the problem.
In short, I need this setup file (and any additional files if there are any) because it no longer exists on my machine.

        Thank you in advance.

Hello, I'm almost in the same situation as the previous people:

The problem: the PC does not detect any Wi-Fi interface even though the PC is equipped with integrated Wi-Fi, it shows
"no Wi-Fi interface detected. If your PC is equipped with a Wi-Fi interface, please enable it"

I am trying to activate the wireless network via the wireless activation/deactivation button but nothing happens.

Computer: Packard Bell Easynote TN-V-011FR laptop
    2GB RAM / 250GB HDD / Dual-core Intel

I tried to restore the Wi-Fi drivers via the Packard Bell eRecovery, I found a driver named:
    Intel Wireless LAN Shirley Peak FMC 802.11 a/g/n 1x2 Wi-Fi Link 5100 (1x2)
I think it must be the one, so I start the installation, a window appears for a few seconds and then nothing.
    Is it installed?

Below this driver, I also see 2 drivers named QMI Wireless that I tried as I'm running out of ideas, but it says "QMI module not found"

    That's my problem, thank you.

    RE

There's no need to look elsewhere than in the "network adapters" list of the device manager...
But the designation may be more or less explicit depending on the manufacturer, and not necessarily the one I gave you.

    There are two possibilities:
1// either you have the "integrated WiFi" on your laptop (what you mentioned in your initial post), meaning you have an internal component on your motherboard (so we can't see it) that emits WiFi, and in this case, we should find it in the previous list of "network adapters," even if it’s not functioning properly...

===>> Can you provide the complete list of adapters you found in "network adapters"? Is there one that references something resembling 802.11?

2// or it is an external "WiFi dongle" that you need to plug into a USB port on your laptop, which looks like a small device with a mini antenna.
In that case, the problem is entirely different. It is no longer integrated WiFi. And we won't find it in the previous list.
That’s the question I have when reading what you mentioned: "it does not recognize this WiFi dongle which is on the 'on' position in its slot" and which contradicts the previous mention.
If this is the case, do you have a CD that comes with the "dongle," not the CD from the Livebox.

===>> Can you clarify this point for me? ...

    A+

    Re

    Well done!

I find it quite strong that a Toshiba PC (a reputable brand) is delivered incompletely installed...
Normally, a PC is delivered ready to use, especially when the supplier has themselves installed Vista, and when the Wi-Fi is guaranteed on this PC.

This should still be found somewhere in the manual!

Reread it, as you might risk having similar surprises...

In any case, contrary to what you seem to think, you are not that useless. In any case, you explained your problem very well, and that's not the case for everyone on this site...

Enjoy your machine, it's a nice gift...

    A+ maybe...

      Hello,
I am almost in the same situation as you were
but by following your procedure I still can't activate my wifi
my pc is brand new, it's a Toshiba A300 with Vista
I've typed everything you mentioned, that is to say:
      computer
      Vista
      Toshiba
      drivers
      WLAN
and then I don't see setup so I'm stuck
if you could help me I would be so happy because I was starting to despair until I read your message but it didn't work for me
      thank you

        Hello!

First of all, it would have been better to make a new post about your topic instead of risking getting lost on a possibly different subject, where few people can see your request.

Since the machines are different, there isn't necessarily a "setup" every time, and you can do without the installer program to install a driver if it's missing.

We can try to help you, but you need to proceed in order...

1// First, explain your problem in detail... and specify what hardware you have (PC, Livebox?, connections...)
2// Then check if you have a WIFI device installed: redo the steps indicated in message no. 1 and let us know what you see in the "network adapters" devices.

        See you later!

For those who have Wi-Fi detection problems on Vista, I had the same issue for a long time, connection impossible, no network detected with my router 2 meters away -- eventually, I realized that I just need to turn off my mobile phone at the time of startup, and then Vista connects to Wi-Fi immediately. In short, start by TURNING OFF YOUR MOBILE PHONE if you have Wi-Fi detection problems.
