Mon cher amis,

I hope that you are well and that le situation de finance malade has
not affected you all too negatively.

Because Asia, and in particular China is Australia's biggest trading-
partner and buyer of our seemingly inexhaustible minerals, from iron
ore to gas and uranium, our economy has so far suffered less than
that of any other developed nation.

So, at least, say our politicians, even though the value of everyones
investments, including mine, have gone down by 1/3 to what they were
worth 15 months ago, with no sign so far, that the USA initiated
recession (or depression???) has ended.

In middle of July I woke up one morning to find all ten fingers pink
(rose). When the subsequent ulceres did not heal by the application
of various cremes, I saw doctor; he diagnosed engelure and treated me
for 3 weeks with penecillin; despite it, the ulceres took until 5
October for the last one to heal up. Thank heavens all is back to
normal now… except, of course, for the monetary problem!

At present I remember with special gratitude your expressions of
encouragement and sympathy. For that, wonderful friends, I cannot
thank you enough!
