Convert Word Form to PDF Form? Solved

Question

Hello,

As the title suggests, I am looking to convert a form created in Word 2003 into a PDF Form.

While keeping the checkboxes, text fields, drop-down lists, and layout intact.

So, if you have any solutions

It works with Open Office as long as you use the PDF export (which keeps the fillable text fields)

Click on View, Toolbars, Form Control.
In the menu that appears, click at the top right to disable design mode.
Select Text Box and draw your box on your document.
Then export directly to PDF.

Indeed, with PDF Creator, it does not keep the text box.

By installing this little program PDF Creator, it is possible to obtain a PDF file; to do this, you need to print the document to a virtual printer created by PDF Creator, and a PDF file identical to the one in Word will be generated.

No, it doesn't retain the properties... the document becomes an "image"... You need to lock your form in Word so that no one (except you) can modify it, and it remains "fillable".

Hello,  I know PDF Creator well; I use it every day.  But it works like a virtual printer and creates a static PDF.  Even Adobe Acrobat Pro with its PDF Maker does not keep the text fields and others.

The PDF is an interactive format. There are, and I have created myself, PDF Forms.

You can fill them out directly, and you can even add the "Send to" or "Print" function via configured buttons, which can be incorporated directly into the PDF.

Knowing this, I think there should be a possibility to convert a Word Form into a PDF Form, since they have the same capabilities in the current case.

Actually, my problem with Word is that even when protected, the number of characters per text field is limited and everything.

The issue remains that when you press "Enter" in a text field, the cursor actually goes to the next line, which messes up the entire layout.

small tips for creating forms in Word:

Use tables! (I know, it sounds like a joke, but it's real!)

Indeed, in the properties of tables in Word (and not an Excel table insertion...), you have the option to lock a cell height... or rather a row!

This means that with a "free text" field in the form, you can "virtually" block the text wrapping... but this only hides what's beyond!

Another tip: don’t create a table before formatting in Word, or you'll end up pulling your hair out!!!! LOL!

I hadn't thought of this solution

I tested it, and I understand why you talk about hair tearing!

I have a layout with page breaks, sections in 3 columns... It's a complete mess!

I think I'm going to continue as I was doing:

Create a PDF from the Word layout
Then insert, via the form creator in Acrobat Pro, the text fields, lists, and checkboxes

At least my layout won't change

If there aren't any other solutions...

I'm on a work computer equipped with the Office Suite, and I no longer have the rights to add anything, so I can't install a version of Open Office.

But I’ll keep your solution in mind, I’ll see about installing Open Office on my personal PC and test all that out ^^

Office 2009 will likely allow for improved PDF export. In the meantime, creating a reusable PDF is possible with OpenOffice and its export to "fdf" format. You can even fill out your form later with Foxit Reader 2.3: checkbox, button to send the form by email, .... :))))

With an Office 2003 form and zones of type "TextBox," "ListBox" (Office 2007 offers other controls that are not always interpretable by Oo), you simply need to save your document in doc format. Reopening the document with Oo (Oo preserves the layout and properties of the Word document) and exporting FDF will do the rest. There might be more industrial methods (ghostscript, vba, OOoBasic macros, and API for Oo: http://www.eyrolles.com/Informatique/Livre/9782212114393/livre-programmation-openoffice-org.php) but I am not familiar with them.
