Customer service epoch, what is it?

Hello,

I just received two payment confirmation emails for transactions I never made.
One is from a porn site using Epoch for payment, the other is regarding VideoAccelerator, a tool that allows you to download content faster on iTunes, etc...

In the Epoch email, I can access a page where I can see the purchases made, but they ask me to enter my name and credit card number, so I didn't do it, in case these emails are fake.

I only made one purchase online, at a clothing store a few days ago, and I never shop online.

But I don't understand the scamming system. Why do the guys using my credit card provide my email address?
They also use my first name and the beginning of my last name.

In your opinion, is this an issue with the site, or a virus on my computer??

Thank you.

It's a phishing technique: as long as you haven't seen anything on your bank account, and someone is asking for your card number, it smells bad. Moreover, Epoch seems relatively serious. You must have left your email somewhere, along with your name/first name, when signing up on some site. This is why you should always use aliases and not your actual email name.
