Hello everyone,
Here is my problem: I have a Mac with the latest version Leopard (10.5.5) and a Freebox HD. Recently, I bought a multifunction SAMSUNG SCX-4500W. It works perfectly via USB but not via Wi-Fi. I followed the user manual step by step, tried multiple settings, and even contacted Samsung's support; I am still waiting for their response!
Actually, my problem is simple: what should I do to make my printer work via Wi-Fi?
Thanks for your responses!!
Configuration: Mac OS X Safari 525.20.1

    Memory serves:
Connect the printer via Ethernet to your router, configure it by following the instructions on the installation CD (if I remember correctly), and then disconnect the printer when the installation program prompts you to do so.

        Hello,
Have you tried it this way:
1/ I installed all the software provided with the printer, making sure to check "Network Printer" (and not "Local Printer"),
2/ I connected the printer via Ethernet, (temporary but important!!)
3/ I then installed the printer in "System Preferences"; your printer needs to be set as "Default" (and not "IP Printer") with the name: "Samsung SCX-4500W Series + serial-number", Manager: "SCX-4500W Series", you press OK
4/ You should find "airportthru" in the menu bar: you have all your available networks that you can detect, and under "DEVICE" the name "airportthru", you select it, the wifi symbol turns gray with a small square.
5/ You return to the Smart Panel in the menu bar, you click on "Printer Settings",
6/ Safari opens, the address is of the form "http://192.168.0.xx/" (that is, a DHCP address between your IP Address and the Router's address)
7/ The SyncTru Web Service of YOUR printer opens. Then, you go to the "Network Config" tab, in the "Wireless" sub-tab the status of your connection, that is mainly your SSID (which should correspond to the name you gave your own network (Freebox or Neufbox...) and "Operating Mode: Infrastructure" (if you have multiple computers sharing this printer)
To do this, you click on "Assistant" and follow the prompts. You should avoid touching other settings!!
You also check in the "TCP/IP" sub-tab that the "IP Address Allocation Method" is set to "DHCP", otherwise you change it
8/ You unplug the ethernet cable and normally your printer prints over wifi....
You will find other, more detailed explanations in Gotmullet's response on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 1:03:23 PM
        Best regards

Yes, I tried this workaround but I notice that the Wi-Fi indicator is not lit, it might be because of that.

    Hello,
It’s Saturday, so let’s not stress about it!! Here are the details:
1/ I installed all the software provided with the printer, making sure to select “Network Printer” (and not “Local Printer”),
2/ I connected the printer via Ethernet (temporary but important!!)
3/ I then added the printer in “System Preferences,” it’s important that your printer is set as “Default” (not “IP Printer”) with the name: “Samsung SCX-4500W Series + the-serial-number,” Manager: “SCX-4500W Series,” you click OK
4/ You should find “airportthru” in the menu bar: you have all your available networks that you can connect to and, under “DEVICE,” the name “airportthru,” you select it, the wifi symbol turns gray with a small square.
5/ You go back to the Smart Panel in the menu bar, click on “Printer Settings,”
6/ Safari opens, the address is of the type “http://192.168.0.xx/” (that is to say a DHCP address between your IP Address and the Router’s address)
7/ The SyncTru Web Service for YOUR printer opens. Then, go to the “Network Config.” tab, under the “Wireless” sub-tab check the status of your connection, which means primarily your SSID (which should match the name you gave to your own network (Freebox or Neufbox...) and “Operating mode: Infrastructure” (if you have multiple computers sharing this printer)
For that, click on “Wizard” and follow the prompts. Please avoid changing other settings!!
You also check under the “TCP/IP” sub-tab that the “IP Address allocation method” is set to “DHCP,” otherwise you change it
8/ You unplug the ethernet cable and normally your printer will print via wifi....
I know: it’s complicated, but the result is worth it...
However, for scanning, it only works wirelessly with the “Image Capture” utility (and even then, the interface is terrible and the results are poor, but that’s another story!)
Have a great weekend, feel free to contact me again

      Hello,

      I have a Samsung ML-1630W printer myself.
I can connect it via a router, on network, and access it from XP. All of this with static addressing.
But I can’t get it to work with DHCP, let alone WIFI. Do you have any ideas on the matter?
      Thank you.

      Hello,

      I have a Samsung ML-1630W printer myself.
It should work with USB, Ethernet, and Wifi connections. For USB and Ethernet, everything is fine except that I can't get it to work on DHCP. And I'm far from getting it to work via WIFI.
One last detail, I am on XP. You seem to have a lot of experience. Do you have any ideas to help me?
      Thank you,

      Hello Jean-Pierre,
I’m not very familiar with Windows XP (I’m on Mac OS X), but one thing is for sure: to access the famous SyncThru Web, you must FIRST connect the printer with the Ethernet cable. Once you have access to YOUR printer's interface, you need to make the settings in the "Wireless" tab, that is to say enter the exact name of your router (NeufBoxToto, FreeBoxTata or AliceBoxTiti, etc.) and indicate the WEP key (the password that protects your wifi). Check in the TCP/IP tab that you are on DHCP; if not, change it.
Then, remove the Ethernet cable and it should work via wifi (normally!!)

      Hello,

It's done, this printer is working. Thanks to your messages and, in particular, the last one, I have finally managed to get it working on WIFI with a Livebox, with a few small adjustments specific to my setup.

      Thank you for your help.

Thank you, Canardonews: your help has been very valuable to me,
but I was able to proceed with the installation of my ML-1630W
by making a few small adjustments :-)

I want to specify that in my case, I have a Freebox V4
(with only one Ethernet port), as well as a Mac and a PC
on wifi: both are supposed to use this printer.

I started the installation on the Mac (running 10.3.9),
and for those who are still struggling, I will reiterate
      the explanations you provided:

1/ I installed all the software supplied with the printer,
making sure to check "Network Printer"
(and not "Local Printer"): then the SetIP window
opens in Safari and it suggests "validating an applet"
that turns out to be outdated: choose the 2nd or 3rd from the list and validate.
The displayed information is worth noting: especially the IP address.

2/ I connected the printer via Ethernet (to the back of the FREEBOX).

3/ I then installed the printer in "System Preferences,"
then "Printers & Faxes," then "Configure Printers" and finally "Add."
From there, you need to follow SAMSUNG's instructions (yes, yes, it happens):
"Print via IP," Type: "Socket/HP Jet Direct," then you need to enter
the printer's IP address and finally, in "Printer Model,"
choose SAMSUNG (and of course "Add").
In my case, although the printer model is specified,
the default name chosen is the IP address it has:
I did not change it for the upcoming PC configuration
(does it have any real utility? I don’t know, but just in case…)

4/ Steps 4, 5, and 6 were unnecessary for me:
      we go directly to 7.

7/ The SyncTru Web Service of YOUR printer opens.
Then, you adjust in the "Network Config." tab, in the "Wireless" sub-tab
the status of your connection, which means primarily your SSID
(which must correspond to the name you gave your own network
(Freebox or Neufbox...) and "Operating Mode: Infrastructure"
(if you have multiple computers sharing this printer)

For my case, the "Assistant" settings were not enough:
so I clicked on "Personal." In "Network Key Configuration,"
I had to enter and then confirm my Wifi network key
(if you don’t have it, visit your ISP's website).
      Just above, in "Security Configuration,"
be careful with authentication and encryption protocol:
they must be the same as those you chose for your wifi connection
(which is obviously not the case for your printer).

8/ You unplug the Ethernet cable and, normally your printer prints via wifi....

9/ ...and for the PC (running XP), I just had to insert the installation CD:
then it gives the choice between "Local Printer," "Network Printer" and
a short list of Wifi devices, the first being the printer
named by its IP address. The installation finishes, a test page
is offered, and there you go: everything works!!

10/ A big thank you, once again, to Canardonews and to all those who help us
overcome the mediocrity of the manufacturers' installation instructions :-)

    I did it.
I connected the printer to the TV port of my AliceBox and I finally managed to access the synchthru page.

    Hello
    I just bought a SCX-4500 printer
I just read everything because I too have a little wifi problem
Being a former network administrator, I got a bit lost at first
But I found my way back lol
Just to clarify, I find the installation quite complex for average users who aren't too familiar with computers and especially with networks
So to install this printer via wifi, I proceeded as follows
I uninstalled everything because nothing related to the printer should be installed at this point
I connected my printer to the network with the supplied cable
I launched SetIp, which comes with the CD
This allows you to know the basic IP address of your printer
Using the IE Firefox browser, go to the printer with the IP address
You will then be on a web page that will allow you to configure your printer
At this point, there are a few things I didn't understand
A network printer is never configured via the DHCP server; normally, a printer should have a fixed IP address so that it always retains its address (and yes, be careful about this, it can be a source of problems if you have multiple PCs or others connected via wifi in DHCP mode, sometimes the addresses can switch, see DHCP server on Google)
Now you need to authenticate your printer on the home wifi
At this point, I had to give up on the highest encryption; your router absolutely needs to be configured with WPA/TKIP key to allow the printer to communicate with the router.... (this gets complicated because if you've already configured your router, you'll need to modify it accordingly and check the other devices using wifi.... thanks Samsung...) and use the password you've set for your home wifi.
As for the channel for Freebox users, I believe it flips channels 11 and 9 because I changed it accordingly, but it's showing the opposite, go figure...
Normally, if everything goes as it did for me, this should appear
    Link Status: Connected
    SSID: Mathieu
    Operating Mode: Infrastructure
    Associated Frequency: 802.11b/g
    BSSID: 1E:1E:0F:52:FE:D8
    Link Quality: Excellent
    Current Channel: [9] 2452MHz
Before unplugging, remember to go to the TCP/IP tab to know your printer's IP address
From there, unplug your cable and your printer is authenticated on your wireless network
All that's left is to launch the installation CD
Create new TCP IP and enter the information you've gathered in the TCP/IP tab

To summarize, if you’ve already tried to install the printer
Reset the printer to factory settings Uninstall everything related to the printer
    And launch SetIp

There you go; it could have been simplified with a clear manual...

      Hello everyone,

I recently acquired the capricious SCW 4500W, and like most of you, I'm stuck on the Wi-Fi setup.

Strangely, I managed to configure it via Wi-Fi the first time, but due to some changes in the settings, the connection dropped. Apparently, the printer can't recognize a Wi-Fi network when the SSID is not broadcasted, so I made the broadcast visible on the router, and the printer was able to connect to the network, but when I tried to make the SSID invisible again, the printer lost the connection, and since then, the web interface (Struthru) has been acting a bit erratically. That is to say, the wireless section of the network configuration disappears, and therefore I can't reconfigure the Wi-Fi.
I reset the configuration by connecting the printer directly to my PC with the provided RJ45 cable, the printer is reset, I find the wireless section, I reconfigure, I unplug the cable from my router, but the Wi-Fi connection doesn't work. I go back to the web interface and again, the wireless section is missing.

I'm losing it........If anyone has an idea, I’m all ears because I don’t want to resign myself to using it via USB since I originally chose this printer to use it wirelessly from multiple PCs.

      Thank you for your help.

For the noobs... after breaking a MacBook, here’s the solution under Microsoft for all Samsung printers. The CD provided with the printer doesn’t work: [
1/Download the latest version of the drivers from the Samsung website (it includes the drivers, the software, the "crappy" SetIP, and the configuration software (USB connection) for the Wi-Fi.
2/Avoid having a hidden network; it doesn’t work.
      3/Wi-Fi encrypted with WPA2 works.
      4/Select your Wi-Fi.
      5/Installation complete.
6/SetIP... Configure with the MAC address and choose an IP address in your DHCP.
7/In your BOX configuration, set your chosen IP address in the permanent leases.
      8/Print test.

      Good luck.

On my side, I encountered the same problems as you with my SAMSUNG SCX-4500W connected via Wi-Fi to my Neufbox.

I spent over 6 hours this weekend trying to get it to work. I was getting the same results as above. Connection successful, but impossible to access the administration via Wi-Fi after a while.

I realized that the SAMSUNG SCX-4500W does not work well with Wi-Fi TKIP encryption. So if the network where your printer is connected is encrypted in TKIP or TKIP and AES, problems arise.

For my part, it was enough to set the Wi-Fi network to WPA AES encryption for everything to work properly.

    If this can help some...

    Denis.

Well, on Mac, I went through the installation CD and then through Word to find the printer using "print" and selected the one with the serial number, and there you go, everything works... It's indeed through Bonjour after all and not through the manufacturer's installation... Thanks, Ritchi!

Apple boasts instant connectivity via Bonjour. Have you tried it?
    For reference, here's how:
    To add a network printer:

Choose File > Print, then select Add Printer from the Printer dropdown menu.

Select the printer in the dialog box that appears and click Add.

The dialog box lists Bonjour, AppleTalk, IP, shared, and Open Directory printers. You may need to wait a moment for the printer to appear.

If your printer does not appear, follow these steps:

To connect to an AppleTalk printer, click AppleTalk in the toolbar, select the area where the printer is located, select the printer, and click Add.

If AppleTalk was not previously enabled, clicking AppleTalk will enable it.

To connect to an IP printer, click IP in the toolbar and enter the printer's information.

To print to another type of printer, click More Printers, choose the printer type from the dropdown menu, select the printer, and click Add.

When you select your printer, Mac OS X searches for the printer driver and adds it to the Printer dropdown menu. If Mac OS X cannot find the printer driver, the message "Driver not installed" or "Gutenprint" will appear in the "Print Using" dropdown menu.

Normally, your computer can detect special accessories installed on a printer, such as additional paper trays, extra memory, duplex modules, etc. If it fails to do so, a dialog box will appear to allow you to specify them. Make sure the settings in this dialog box accurately reflect the accessories installed on your printer so that you can fully take advantage of them.

      Hello,
Thank you for the details, it seems that I have tried all of this, in vain. The problem is that my printer (turned on of course!) does not receive any Wi-Fi signal from the computer at all.
In "Add a printer" > Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket, (recommended by Samsung) > Address: 192.0.0.192 > Queue: "nothing" > Name: the same IP address is automatically set > Location: "nothing" > Print via: after a certain time, it shows: "Generic PostScript Printer". This information is taken from the Network Configuration Report of my printer. Then I click on: Add.
And there, when I try to print, the Print Queue indicates: "trying to connect to host 192.0.0.192 on port 9100" and, after a while: "repairable: unable to connect to the printer; retrying in 30 seconds..."
I have tried again with various settings, nothing happens...
Are there any settings to be done on the Freebox HD?

Hello, I'm new to this forum,
I also have an scx 4500w but I can't access the printer's web interface.
Safari is searching but finds nothing even though I'm entering the correct IP address.
When you say "establish a network," are you creating it or connecting to that network (because I already have that network showing in Airport but when I click on it, the icon remains greyed out).
Thank you in advance for the help you will provide me.

    Good evening,
The trick (I don’t know if it’s a trick, but it works!!) is to set your printer as the “Default Printer” (not “IP Printer” as stated in the manual), so the name of your printer looks like this: “Samsung SCX-4500W Series (SEC-the-serial-number)”, and the system will automatically find the driver (SCX-4500W Series)
Then, with Smart Panel, (in your menu bar), click on “Printer Settings”
Safari will open and (normally) open the SynkTruWeb site, where you can adjust your network settings however you like.

    Hello,
In the end, it wasn't that complicated: all you had to do was not follow the printer's manual!!!
However, I tried turning off my FreeBox and... it doesn't work! And for good reason: the box acts as a router for your wifi network (from what I understood, I don't know anything about networks, so please forgive me, purists)

      Hello,
First, turn on the printer BEFORE the computer? The little blue light below Start/copy should be on before you turn on the computer.
I also advise you to uninstall all the software provided with the printer and then reinstall them.
      It should work!

      Hello,

      Believe it or not, I have exactly the same problem (Samsung printer WiFi series 1630W; XP computer; Freebox WiFi router);

I connect my printer by cable to my router and everything is fine,
I disconnect it and everything is fine again... for 5 to 10 minutes. And then, boom: the printer is no longer connected.

If I restart the devices (the router, the computer, the printer) all together or in various power-up orders, the problem is the same. The only solution: reconnect the printer by cable, then unplug it... and it will work for another 5 minutes.

Anyway, I'm pulling my hair out, especially since when it doesn't work and I print the document with the configurations, the printer tells me that it is indeed connected to the WiFi network (but the "channel" is sometimes curious - maybe a lead?)

Has anyone ever asked Samsung about this? Being a recent model, the FAQ and support pages for the 1630W on samsung.com are a bit sparse...

    Hello,

I have the 1630w printer under XP (connected with an Ethernet cable)

Following the instructions in the documentation, I can find my printer with "SetIP," I correctly configure the MAC address...
When I launch the installation program (install network printer => wired network), I find my printer, check it, click on next, and it says "unable to connect to (and there's the IP address)..." [it does the same thing if I try install network printer => wireless network]

Additionally, if it helps, when I connect my Ethernet cable, Windows tells me "limited or no connectivity." I think this is the problem, but I have no idea how to solve it...

PS: I am using Freebox Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable, it doesn't change anything)

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Normally, you connect your printer with the Ethernet cable to make these settings, and only then do you disconnect the cable. Turn off the printer, then turn it back on until the Wi-Fi indicator lights up.
Otherwise, it might be due to a defect in your printer...

I'm adding my two cents: if you're using a Freebox (V5) like I am and you want to add a Samsung ML-1630W to the Wi-Fi network managed by this Freebox (an infrastructure network), do not use the Wi-Fi encryption protocol TKIP+AES offered in the Free management interface. Although the printer doesn't seem to have any issues when configured for this type of encryption via the network configuration interface, it turns out it will never be able to connect properly. I switched back to TKIP-only encryption and no more problems after that. Too bad for my paranoid encryption...

        Cheers.

I confirm, same problem for me in WPA (TKIP + AES).

        Thanks for the tip!

As for me, the setIP shows me nothing even though I followed your instructions... I don't understand anything about this printer.

    Hello,

Same problem as other Macboys. I followed all the instructions from Canardonews dated February 20, 2009, and the Synch Thru Web Service is not showing up. I made sure to disconnect from my wifi network before clicking on the web service icon to connect to the airportthru network.

    Help please....

      Hello,

After several months of hassle, I finally managed to install my ML 1630W with my MacBook Pro using the Freebox as a router. Well, if I understood everything correctly.

For the Web Service Synch Thru, I also had a problem, so I restarted my machine, and then I went through the smartpanel ---> Printer settings, and it eventually provided a display with parameters to enter in SAFARI.

      Anyway, thanks to everyone.

      A real headache...

      Best regards.

For me, the connection via Bonjour is direct: mac <--> printer and does not go through the free box.

      Hello,
I did it!! I finally found it.
You just have to set up a network (connected to my wifi) named "airportthru" (name given by the Network Configuration Report of my printer) and set the TCP/IP tab of my wifi network to: Use DHCP with a manual address: 192.0.0.192; the rest fills in automatically. Hit OK.
Then, using the installation CD, check "Network printer".
Next, go back to System Preferences > add printer > check the "Default printer" box > the printer name appears > choose the Manager (which was installed by the CD), then "Add"
      And finally print!!!!
I hope I was clear because these things can be a headache and my advice: never follow the directions given by the Samsung manual....
In any case, thanks for taking the time to respond to me.

I have the same problem. Can you break down your explanation? How to set up a network on Wi-Fi?
Where can I find my Wi-Fi network? Thank you

      Hello
I have a problem: when I access the Syncthru web, the "wireless" tab is missing and instead, there is the "telnet" tab.
If you could help me out.
      Thank you.
