Install a Wi-Fi printer Solved/Closed

Question

hi  I can't find any links or tutorials explaining how to install a Wifi printer! Could someone please help me?  Thanks

I finally found the solution! And I can't say I found it on the forums...  So:  After installing the printer drivers (installed first with the provided CD, even before having the choice between a USB or wireless connection), go to: Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Printers. Right-click anywhere and select "Add a printer...". Then click on "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer..." Your printer should normally appear (if it doesn't, then try the other forums because that’s what worked for me...). Click on "next". Then using the arrows, select the brand "Epson" and then the model of your printer. Once the printer model is selected, click on next. DO NOT CLICK on "Provided disk", it doesn’t work... And there you go, print the test page, it works!   It took me all day to find this, it drove me crazy! A 150 euro printer with installation software that is clearly unreliable, it’s shameful! A lot of people are in the same situation (problem with connecting printer and PC via wifi). I still called EPSON who weren't able to help me either! It really sucks!  Well, good luck. Hello, I solved the issue this weekend at a friend's place
To set up a Wi-Fi printer:

first configure your entire network with the TCP IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS
next, on your printer, you should be able to find its IP address, which is currently dynamic, meaning it changes every day (for me, I pressed the Wi-Fi button on my friends' HP C4380 and printed the printer's network configuration)
Once you have its IP address, open Internet Explorer and type: http://"printer's IP address", you will enter the Wi-Fi printer's network configuration base and give it a static IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS.

Finally, go to Printers, right-click on your printer, go to the Ports tab, create a TCP IP printer port if it doesn't already exist, and double-click it to configure:
Printer Name> exact name as recognized e.g.: "HP_C4380_series"
Printer IP> IP that you set in the printer's configuration (step with Internet Explorer)

PUFF finally after 3 days of hassle, it works!!! So I want to help those who are struggling day and night. It's really simple... After installing your printer with your diskette and USB cable, when you get to the Wi-Fi installation, turn off your box. Keep your printer always connected to the computer. Turn off the printer. Remove the installation disk for the printer and replace it with the installation disk for the computer on the BOX. When you are asked to connect the BOX to the electric outlet, also turn on your printer. Continue configuring your box in Wi-Fi by carefully following the instructions: press the box button when prompted. Then you will be asked the usual questions for the printer: choose your Wi-Fi connection. Always follow the instructions until the end. It works on its own and it's a pleasant surprise. You wouldn't believe it's that easy. Safe travels to all.

WiFi printer installation tutorial
1) All WiFi printers have a fixed IP, which is rarely the same as the network where you want to install it, so you need to change it HOW ??
2) On the wireless network connection of each machine, right-click, we have Wireless Network Connection Status, choose the Support or Details tab
3) We have the default gateway, the subnet mask, and the IP
4) The gateway is the IP of the router, you need to check that of the different machines connecting to it, generally from 1 to 10, while the router is above 100
5) Choose a number for the printer between 10 and 100 (I chose 100)
6) Then enter the chosen IP on the printer as the new value VALIDATE
7) Then install the network driver of the machine // if it doesn't find the machine, give it the IP you chose for the printer and everything installs there ---->> print a test page, it's magical, it works

In fact, after setting the printer to a static IP with the network settings, you need to go into the router's program and enter the printer's MAC address.
How to find this MAC address?
Open the command prompt, type arp -a, and next to the printer's IP address, you will find its MAC address; you declare it and authorize it in the router, and that's it.

An IP address conflict?
3 solutions: 1. Change the IP address of your PC or printer so that they are not identical
2. Alternatively, configure in the settings of your router and printer so that you are on DHCP
3. If you assign the same IP address to your printer as your router, it won't work!!! If you want, the printer connects to your PC (and not your router) through your router.
Example: your router: 192.168.1.1
your PC: 192.168.1.2
your printer: 192.168.1.3

The connection from 192.168.1.3 (printer) to 192.168.1.2 (PC) goes through 192.168.1.1 (router)

For this communication to work properly, the same DNS (e.g. 192.168.1.1) and the same gateways (e.g. 192.168.1.1) must be set on both the PC AND the printer.

Once configured, go to start, run, and type "cmd" (without quotes)
in the black window that appears, type "ping xxx.xxx.x.x" (e.g. ping 192.168.1.3, the address that corresponds to what you set in your printer). Then hit OK

If the response from the ping command is "request timed out", either your printer is turned off, or you have a firewall somewhere blocking it (like Zone Alarm, Windows Firewall, etc.), or you have a configuration in your router that activates connections to your router through MAC address filtering.

Turn on your printer, disable all your firewalls, and check in your router that you don't have MAC address filtering enabled. It should be found in a section like security or filtering.

Try your ping again to see if there is communication. When there is communication, it says "ping reply from xxx.xxx.x.x: 32 bytes etc..."

If there is communication, all you have to do is go to printers, add a new printer, and follow the prompts....

Ultimately, this morning, it stopped working again!

After two calls to EPSON and two days of trouble, I found the solution.

You need to go into your firewall (mine was ZONE ALARM) and MANUALLY allow access for your printer (EPSON STATUS MONITOR 3 for me, because it's an Epson). During the installation, many permission requests had appeared, which I had always allowed access to. But clearly, my firewall forgot to ask me for the most important thing for my printer... so it blocked it by itself... That's why I thought the problem couldn't come from my firewall! And yet...

You'll see, it will work like magic ;-). The solution was quite simple...

I hadn't thought of using Ethernet to set up the Wi-Fi. I think I've been focusing a bit too much on Wi-Fi, while apparently, nothing beats the good old IP method... So I will keep that in mind.

On the other hand, I am very disappointed with the software that came with the printer: Just a bunch of assistant assistants getting lost in ramblings... It's impossible to take control and tell it that it's not a box at the end, but a PC in ad hoc!! Nothing works! So in the end, HP is asking me to connect via USB temporarily to transfer the settings of my wireless network: BUT since my wireless network doesn't exist yet, since only the PC is Wi-Fi (wired Ethernet for the box), the assistant is lost, and it installs the entire HP software suite as if my printer were meant for USB permanently... And when I unplug the USB cable, it's the end of the beginning of hoping to communicate with this gas factory that is the J6415...

I will test an Ethernet cable tomorrow to see how it goes...

If nothing improves, I will call HP on Monday afternoon, and they will help me, maybe even SOLVE my problem!
