Hello everyone,
Since I received my laptop, I have a startup issue: when I press the power button, the button lights up green and that's the only thing that happens.
I have to keep pressing the button to turn off the laptop. But as soon as I press the button again to restart, everything works fine.
Here's my problem: my laptop turns on one time out of two :(.
If I turn off my laptop and then turn it back on a few minutes later, everything works well, but if there is a long wait time, it turns on one time out of two.
Could you shed some light on this issue?
Thank you.

I confirm that you need to flash the BIOS (latest version = 1.43 I think)
After that, your PC works very well. For the latest version:

Not yet a solution to give you, but I have exactly the same problem. To top it all off, this is my second 7720. The first one had Wi-Fi issues after a week. After contacting Acer, they exchanged it without any problem. Now the Wi-Fi seems to be working properly, but from the first startup, I've encountered the same issues as you!!!!! I think the only option left is to call the hotline. If you have any information, I'm interested. See you later.

That's already something, at least I'm not the only one ^^. I'll call tomorrow and give you updates.
See you soon. -
Hello, disconnect all power sources including the battery, press the power button, and reconnect everything, or go into the BIOS and perform a default or factory reset.

No problem, it's nice to be able to help each other out. If you have any issues flashing the BIOS, don't hesitate.

No thanks, everything went well and to my great pleasure, my PC started up on the first try this morning! It's definitely better that way ^^. And luckily, everything went smoothly because a BIOS crash can be painful :p.
Have a nice day! -
Same problem with Acer 7720, the solution "BIOS version 1.43" is great!!!! No more problems
Thank you -
Hello,
it's quite simple to solve this problem: "go to the control panel,
then laptop
then power options
then change the action that follows closing the lid
and finally check the lid closing icon
on battery and plugged in
'shut down' 'shut down'
when you close the laptop lid, it will shut down as if you had pressed the shut down button.
there you go, it works and the PC starts normally.
Have a nice day. -

hello ... I bought the 7720 ... And I have the same problem as you!
Here is what I found, is this really a good solution in your opinion??
Thank you in advance for your response! :-)

Problem:
during the first boot of your Acer 7720, the screen stays black or on the Acer - Intel page so much that you have to hold the ON/OFF button down and do a second boot.
Solution:
go to: https://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/
at the bottom of the page, in Bios for MS Windows Vista: select v.1.43 from the dropdown menu.
wait, allow the download and save it.
reach the folder v.1.43 which is a ZIP. Extract all then open it.
go to the subfolder ICL50143_winflash which is a ZIP. Extract all then open it.
right-click on ICL50143_winflash then Run as administrator.
say Yes to the BIOS flashing confirmation.
wait a moment. The computer shuts down.
You can restart your computer and as Z0g0t0unga would say: "hop, everything works like a charm!"
Thanks to him for this solution! I took it and detailed it to make it accessible to everyone, which I tested and approved!! -
One more thing, I have exactly the same problem as you, I don’t know much about it and I’m unable to do all the manipulations. If I go back to see the seller, he might take it back (the purchase is one month old) but what if he gives me another one that has the same problems????

Good news!
It wooooooorks!!!
I followed the procedure I posted above, and since then the computer runs perfectly!
I contacted FNAC's customer service to share the tip!
It's really not complicated to do it yourself, otherwise a phone support can easily guide you to update the BIOS, but be careful! It must be done exclusively via the link from ACER given above!!!!! -
I followed your advice and miracle, my computer opens fine, but unfortunately I have problems connecting to the internet every day. Sometimes even before being connected, it stops indicating "shutting down" and the little arrow spins around for a very long time. So having no cursor, I have to turn it off by pressing the power button. Additionally, the cursor often freezes, and I feel like this computer isn't worth much as it often displays: "Windows error recovery." ???

I also bought this computer and I have the same startup problem
I see that you found the solution but is it risk-free for the computer???
Since I don't know much about it, I'm afraid of ruining my computer :)
Thank you to those who will answer me -
For Lylette, the announced problems are likely due to an Internet settings issue, not the machine itself... And for me, the answer: No problem!
It's a update to be retrieved from the official Acer website, the latest available version of the BIOS under Windows Vista.-

Après avoir lu les blogs des personnes ayant le même problème que moi (problème de démarrage), le site que vous avez gentiment indiqué (http://support.acer etc.) ne me mène nulle part. Que puis-je faire ? Merci d'avance.
- ... If you can't manage with the explanations I provided ... the best thing is to give this info to a friend who knows a bit ... the link works well ... and the information has been validated by me and many internet users ... Since it’s an issue with a new machine ... even though apparently, customer service isn't very competent, they should know how to update the BIOS ...
I know it’s frustrating to buy something new and have it not work ... but personally, I'm on my fourth Acer, and I haven’t had any major problems!

Hello,
I have carefully read your messages regarding the same problem with my ACER Aspire 7720 PC. I contacted customer service today, and I have never seen anything like it in my life, even though I used to work in customer service myself. The woman didn’t listen to my problem until the end and, in an aggressive tone, told me, "You're hiding information from me." I got a bit angry without becoming vulgar, although I was tempted to. She eventually calmed down and realized it would be stupid for me to hide anything, as I was calling because I didn't understand why my new PC was having startup issues and I expected her to provide a solution. In the end, she couldn’t tell me anything useful; she just gave me the wrong address for technical support (I had to look it up myself on their website) and told me to write to them saying I needed a BIOS update. From your messages, I see that we can do it ourselves directly on the site. I admit I am really upset with this brand, especially since I've read countless comments where customers were treated poorly by operators and that repair times were incredibly long, not to mention the lack of information when they keep your PC for weeks.
I will download this zip right away and hope I never have to deal with ACER customer service again...
Best wishes to everyone, -
Hi,
Like you, I contacted Acer and it turns out that you need to use software to flash the BIOS.
To do this, you need to remove the battery and connect to the power supply, then start the PC and run the program. The BIOS is upgraded and since then my PC starts up nicely.
However, I have a Wi-Fi issue with my Livebox, I have to restart my PC and then it works.
If anyone has a tip, please reply!
Best regards
Hervé-
same problem as you all: PC boots once every two times.
so flashing the BIOS to v1.45 at the bottom of the page https://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/
following the instructions given earlier in this forum.
since then everything is fine!
