Hello,
I’m notified that automatic updates are available and I’m asked how I want to install them. I choose the quick installation recommended but each time it fails to install, same when I choose the custom installation. Each time it shows me this:
The following updates were not installed
Security Update for Windows XP (KB938464)
Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 (KB923689)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 and 11 (KB941569)
Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter Update (KB956077)
Security Update for CAPICOM (KB931906)
Update for Windows XP (KB951978)
Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)
Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool – September 2008 (KB890830)

Can someone help me resolve this problem.?
Thank you
Configuration: Windows XP SP3 Internet Explorer 7.0

I had the same problem; I typed on Google: "installation issues of KB938464"; on the page that opens (it's the first article): "Download details: update for Windows .. etc" (it's the Windows site) you click on it and let it guide you.

listen, don’t do anything reckless STP.. and thanks for not saying stupid stuff either!!

You must never, never disable your antivirus! Even if someone asks you to via chat, msn or anything, even on any forum!

The only moment when you can still do it is by performing an online antivirus scan if there is a conflict only...
    Here is the info...

      Hello,
I'm coming back to you because I didn't get a response on the forum.
Here it is, I uninstalled Office 2003 because some updates wouldn't install as we talked about before and I used OpenOffice. I don't like it much because I'm not used to it and, as a result, I removed it.
After doing a good cleanup, I wanted to reinstall Office 2003, the installation starts well, choosing installation mode, location, etc... The problem starts here: I click on install and a window with all my drives opens and tells me that I don't have enough space on (E) which is normal because (E) is my CD drive where the software to install is, yet I didn't change the default location it chose (C) /Program Files/ Microsoft Office as default. The odd thing is that in this window I cannot choose the (C) drive or the other drives displayed in it; I click on them and nothing happens except to click OK and go back to click the previous button or the install button which opens the same window of drives.
Why is this window appearing at the moment of installation even though I have installed it before without this window. Free space on (C) is 45GB. Why does it choose to install on (E) even though (C) is chosen as the location?? Mystery!!!!
What do you think about this blemish?
      Thanks in advance

OK, thank you for following this problem resolved likely you’re having trouble removing Office 2003...

As Plan B you have the "maybe the choice" in Safe Mode for the installation...
        Keep me posted please...

      Hi,
So I tried to install Office 2003 in Safe Mode as you suggested, but as soon as I click on setup, a Windows Installer window with a yellow exclamation mark tells me: The system administrator has configured this policy to prevent this installation. I should point out that I am the administrator of my computer, I haven't opened any other account.
      What do you think?

espion3004> Thank you for your help, but when I disabled my antivirus I wasn't on a chat or a forum; I had already downloaded the updates and only after that did I disable the antivirus and cut the connection at the same time. I am careful and don't want to take risks.
Thank you, I will try to see with the solution you indicated.
    See you.

    Hello everyone
espion3004> Thanks, that's it I managed with your help (dial-a-fix) 8/9. But I had to try twice. The first attempt didn't work, but there is always an update that won't install, this one:
Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB956077)
    Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)
Is there another one for that or do I still have to redo with dial-a-fix
    Thanks

Do your update again when finished and keep me posted...

    hi spy 3004
I didn’t quite understand what you want me to do. I downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup utility but when I run it my antivirus flags it as a high risk and blocks the installation obviously I’m also afraid to install it.
I’m waiting for more explanation so I don’t mess things up.
    See you

OK, this is not a trap or anything like that..
    It’s an official Windows software

    What’s your antivirus?

    Hi there
I don’t think it’s a trap, but what do you want me to uninstall after because these two updates aren’t installed yet. If you can clarify a bit more what I should uninstall with this log after its installation.
My antivirus ---> Norton Internet Security.
    See you later

ok, I understood better, you still have these updates to install => Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB956077)
    Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)

And not the other way around...

    Ok, browse here Microsoft Support
Or you can also do this trick: Update version II

I tried method1: Register the Wups2.dll file in the Windows Registry
After re-install, it still gives this: The following updates were not installed
    Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)
    Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
Update for the Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB956077)

If I completely uninstall Office 2003 and reinstall it and then install the updates manually, could that solve this problem?

I was going to suggest it to you just like that...

use Windows Installer CleanUp for that Windows Installer CleanUp
Then you run a CCleaner and a sweep with Revo Uninstaller to delete obsolete files...

    Keep me posted...

For now I’ve uninstalled Office 2003 and installed OpenOffice. What do you think of it?
I need to get used to it because I’m a bit lost even though it looks like Microsoft Office. If it annoys me, I’ll reinstall Office 2003.
Thank you very much to you, espion3004, for the help you’ve given me. You’re a good guy.
    See you later

ok, thanks for the thanks ;) I know OpenOffice isn’t obvious, especially since we’ve been using Word for a long time.. The change is radical.
Par contre, check your updates to see if everything is okay, then reinstall Word properly... But before => do a clean with CCleaner and another tool to optimize your PC GLary Utilities it’s also free..
Then reinstall Word and see a difference...

Ok, thanks again. I’m used to using CCleaner and EasyCleaner, but I’ll try Glary Utilities.

    Hi,
My problem continues because lacking a solution I uninstalled Office 2003. After doing a thorough cleanup I wanted to reinstall it but when I click install a window tells me I don’t have enough space on (E) which is normal since (E) is my CD drive, yet the installation should occur in (C)/Program Files/Microsoft Office by default. The irony is that in this window I can do nothing except click OK and go back to the previous screen or the install button.
Why is there this window during installation even though there was never one before as long as there is enough free space on (C)? Why does it choose to install on (E) when (C) is selected as the location??
If someone can help me solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance

Okay, I’ll keep you posted, but can I leave OpenOffice installed and also install Office?
