Creative Zen stuck in "Recovery Mode"

Good evening, so here it is, I just turned on my Creative Zen, and it started up in "Recovery Mode".
It says "Clean up" "Format all" "Reload Firmware" and "Reboot"
I clicked on "Format All" and it showed me the free space I have left. And then I clicked on "Clean up" and it is doing a "Scan disk"
However, it is not progressing, I tried the "Reset" button but it restarts in Recovery Mode.
I must admit that the colors are quite scary, with black, red, yellow, and gray lines :/
My PC recognizes the USB connection, so that’s not an issue.
Should I wait for the "scan disk" to finish? Or will it never finish and my Creative is slowly quitting on me?
Thank you in advance.
Nela.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 2.0.0.16

I had the same issue while running the recovery tools after the message 'Downloading Firmware in progress' appeared, I encountered an error mentioning 'Kernel32.dll' (when viewing the error details).

I went to the installation directory of the recovery tools 'C:\Program Files\Creative\MP3 Player Recovery Tool\' (on my machine)

    then into the subdirectory FW

    C:\Program Files\Creative\MP3 Player Recovery Tool\FW

I clicked on 'ZENVPlus_PCFW_L22_1_32_01e.exe', which is the version of the firmware downloaded from the Creative website before the crash, and it worked.

I'm currently having the same problem as you and I've tried everything... even reinstalling the firmware still doesn't work, it gets stuck in recovery mode... but you can still try the reset and then reload the firmware and reformat... normally that's the only thing that should work...

Good evening, have you found a solution to the issue because it just happened to me too, so if you have found one, please let me know how you did it.

    Thank you.

You need to download the small recovery tool software.

I have exactly the same problem. I tried several sites but there are too many gray areas. I tried to download the recovery tool; it starts well, but when it downloads the firmware, the program gives me this error: Automated firmware update and/or formatting for CL MP3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We apologize for the inconvenience. I really need your help, please. I don't know what to do anymore; I searched online all day. Help please.

I also know that Creative takes them back through the place where you bought them.

My little brother got the same one as me, except that his "recovery tool" didn't work either, so he sent it back to Cdiscount, and Cdiscount sent it back to Creative, and we will soon receive a new one.

So no solution if I understand correctly. I'm in Africa and my cousin sent it to me from Paris; it's not easy for me to send it back to get a new one.

could you please clarify the procedure to follow? I've been stuck for a while and Creative hasn't responded to my multiple follow-ups!!!! I bought this model because I trusted Creative, I regret my choice and should have bought an Archos model !!! I hope you can help me quickly, I sincerely thank you for any assistance you can provide!

    Hello.

It's been a while since the discussion, but apparently some people can't find the solution.

What happened to me is that I ended up in Recovery mode (with the black and red menu) (I'm talking about the Creative Zen V, but I feel like it’s the same for others). I had been trying to repair it for almost a year with that famous recovery tool, but to no avail, as it said my operating system was not supported (I'm on Windows 7, and the Creative recovery tool would work on XP).

So the main goal is to find the firmware for the specific player (for me, the Creative Zen V). To do this, go to the Creative website, look for support where they offer all the products. Find your player and normally in the download availability, you should have a firmware. So, that is software.

The problem with this recovery mode (at least in my case) is that Windows did not recognize my player, so the software could not install the firmware. However, there is a workaround: hold down the play/pause button and plug in your player while keeping it pressed. Keep it pressed until the system recognizes it (theoretically within 10 to 15 seconds; for me, it was faster). Once it’s recognized, launch the firmware software and perform the upgrade. And there it loads. And here is your player all new (but it's true that it erases everything).

    To summarize:
    - Download the firmware software for the specific player
    - Connect your player while holding down the play/pause button at the same time
    - Launch the firmware software
    - Upgrade and let it do its thing

There you go, I hope this helps you.
    Best regards.

Hi Michel. I have the Zen Micro Photo and even if I push the Zen by pressing the play/pause button, my computer still doesn't recognize it.

Hello, I also have a problem with my Creative Zen X-Fi 2; after connecting it to a Mac (for the first time), upon restarting it shows "Scan disk" and then gets stuck indefinitely before the loading is finished. When I reconnect it to my PC, it powers on, says "scan disk" and then displays "connected" and starts charging normally, yet there is nothing connected to that port on the computer... (I've tried with several PCs...). As a result, there is no way to install the new firmware because it says the player is not connected... Does anyone have a solution?

Sorry for the late reply, but are you launching the firmware afterwards? You need to look for it on the Creative site for your player.
