Solved

Hello,
Is there a music lover on this forum? I'm looking for an update for my Korg i4s keyboard because the player is incompatible with Win XP. In short, I can't read my backing sequences on XP... I'm asking the question just in case.
Bye

I knew I would eventually find it one day, and thanks to this internet user:

Compatible diskette or not! That is the question on I4s

By airev on 02/28/2008 Practicing music as a hobby. As you know, the Korg I4s is equipped with a diskette drive. But beware, we realize that the 1.44M diskettes available on the market are not compatible.

      No pââânique!!!

The old trick from the 90s works!!!!

Indeed, it’s simply a matter of covering the hole of the 3 1/2 diskette, not the one for information protection, but the one located opposite.

A simple piece of tape is enough

Covering this hole turns a 1.44MB diskette into a 720KB diskette
Abracadabra!! And it's done! Young PADAW-ONE!

The I4s only recognizes 720KB diskettes, so compatibility is possible!
      ALLELUIA !!!

A simple formatting of the diskette even under PC works.

      There you go!

    Hi

Would you be kind enough to rephrase your question in a slightly more explicit way? There's nothing to understand in what you wrote.

      Hello,
Are you a musician? When I talk about the keyboard (Korg i4s), I'm referring to a musical instrument, a synthesizer if you prefer. The problem is that this instrument has a floppy disk drive; I sometimes compose musical sequences (backing sequences) that I then save on a floppy disk via the built-in drive. Unfortunately, I can't transfer the contents of the floppy disk to Windows XP (it tells me the disk is not formatted, do you want to format it?), in short, the format is not recognized under Windows XP, while it works with Windows 3.1. So, I need to update my keyboard's software (which I assume needs to be updated) so that the format can be recognized by Windows XP. Until now, my searches have been in vain. I reiterate my SOS, hoping there is an update for this type of keyboard.

    Good evening,
have you simply checked the Korg site? I am also a Korg synth user and I can find everything I need about backups and downloads. Do you also use a sequencer, and if so, which one?

Nothing to do with the XP recognition issue: the disks are simply not of the same format (single density for Korg, double density for 1.44 drive on XP).

    Hello,
It's wrong, my buddy, so explain to me why it works on an old laptop that I still have with a win 3.1 version?
I think that, at this point in the debate, only a Korg i4s user could bring me a rebuttal for now, because I maintain and reaffirm my statements that it is a problem with the Korg program update. But since no one cares, I consider the debate as: "dead".

Very important detail for memory, I remind you that the synthesizer in question was released in 1994, how time flies. And when was Windows XP released? The whole answer is there, isn't it?

Hi geiff, I think it's not a problem coming from XP, backward compatibility makes it so that if you can read it with Win 3.1, you should also be able to read it with XP. It might simply be a question of file format.

What software do you use to read your disks (under 3.1 and under XP) and what format are the pieces saved in?

In any case, here is a link where you can email users of the Korg i4s:

        Hello,
I also have a Korg I4s and I have the same problem.
Unfortunately, the I4S only reads single-density floppy disks as some have mentioned, and there is no update for the keyboard; it's the drive itself that is like that. As for Windows XP, it is true that it does not have the option to format to 720KB (single density), and even if it did, the disk must be single density.
The only solution: to have an old PC with Windows 95 or Windows 3.11. In my case, I have an old Toshiba laptop with Windows 95, and it works well.
I hope I have answered your question.
