Hello,
I have a problem with my Windows XP: it turns out that I cannot start it without pressing the F1 key and I find this annoying because I have to do it every time. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? Thank you for your prompt responses.

Re,
You don't have any antivirus installed on your machine....
> Try installing Antivir: open this link, read the tutorial, download Antivir and install it
- You can also download Antivir HERE.
- Run Antivir, perform updates, connect all your storage devices to the PC, then run a scan (if any viruses are found, quarantine them. If you can't quarantine them, then delete them).
- At the end of the scan click on 'report', save this report to the desktop (file => save as), then copy/paste this report into your next message.
> Restart your PC
> Let me know the results....and if your PC is doing better...
See you soon

Ok,
no panic. You needed an antivirus.
I'm questioning more about a file,
> Go to the website virustotal and analyze the following file(s): (copy/paste the lines below into the "upload a file" box)
If there's a problem: http://pageperso.aol.fr/loraline60/virus_total.htm
C:\Program Files\Desktop Clock\Desktop Clock.exe
and please post the result by copy/pasting (or the link, it's quicker and simpler).
Next,
> The following software (MalwareByte's Anti-Malware and Ccleaner) will be useful for you later - they are to be kept...
> Download MalwareByte's Anti-Malware:
- Install the program then launch it please.
NB: If you are missing COMCTL32.OCX then download it here
- Update it (click on "Updates" then "Check for updates") and then close the program.
NB: If you need: Tutorial
> Download and install Ccleaner:
- Update it and then close the program.
If needed, you can find tutorials: here, here and there.
> First, make a copy/paste of this post (this action): (recommended)
Open a new Notepad file (click on "Start" => "Programs" => "Accessories" => "Notepad"),
then copy/paste all the content from this window into the text file.
Save it on the desktop, you will be able to access it even when offline or in safe mode.
> Start in safe mode: (image). If there's a problem: tutorial here
> Launch MalwareByte's Anti-Malware,
- Click on "Run a full scan" then "Scan" and select all your hard drives => the scan begins... wait...
- At the end of the scan, click "delete" (If some items are hard to delete, a message will ask you to restart: click "Yes" then)
- after deleting the infections: a report will be generated: save it and post it on the forum.
> Launch Ccleaner,
- Choose the "Options" tab then click on "Advanced" and uncheck the box "Delete only files in the Windows temp folder older than 48 hours" (everything should be deleted).
- In the "Cleaner" tab click on "Analyze".
- Once the analysis is completed, click on "Run Cleaner".
- In the "Registry" tab => Search for errors => Repair selected errors => save a backup => correct all selected errors => ok => close.
NB: If Ccleaner offers to save a backup, respond yes and save it to 'Desktop'
Repeat until it finds nothing (this usually varies between 1 and 4 times).
> Restart your PC in normal mode
> Relaunch Hijackthis:
Then select < do a system scan and save a logfile >,
And send me, by copy/pasting, your Hijackthis log,
Good luck,
See you later

Hi BOB3. I finally found the content of my boot.ini. Here it is:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Are there any anomalies? Thank you for your prompt response.

Hi Re wiil,
you may need to display your hidden system files,
in Explorer, click on Tools at the top, then Folder Options, then View,
then check
show hidden system files
show hidden files and folders
go to C:\boot.ini
and do as explained in number 8
post it, just don't change anything before we see what's inside.
talk to you later
BOB3
P.S. for the search, you need to enable the first three options in advanced settings
