360 controller charging issue

Hello

So here is my problem, I bought a wireless Xbox 360 controller + the adapter to make it work on my PC. Everything is fine so far, except that I decided to buy a "play & charge kit" to avoid the battery dying during a game. Anyway, I install the battery and plug in the cable to charge it, and then the PC asks me to install drivers. I put the latest update and restarted, but the battery is not charging. So I would like to know what to do to get the battery charging. I have Windows XP Pro SP2.

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.16

Hello everyone.
It's indeed a problem with the battery being too low.
I just had the issue with a new kit that I had in the box for a year.
The red light turns green after about 13 seconds, so you plug it in, count to 10, then unplug for three seconds and plug it back in for another 10 seconds to keep the indicator steadily red.
I had to be patient and do it a good ten times for the charge to start.

Hi, so I think this post is a bit old but it might help some people with the same kind of problem.

Out of simple curiosity, I wanted to try connecting my Xbox controller to my PC using the charge & play kit. So far, everything is fine, Windows recognizes the device, installs the drivers (well, I had to click on search for drivers because nothing was automatically done like with other usual USB devices). Then I play on my Xbox and I want to recharge my battery because I see that there's not much battery left when I'm playing on my Xbox and to my shock, the controller won't charge anymore...

Well, the problem is simple apparently when you install the controller on the PC it loads drivers that seem to create a conflict when it comes to charging the controller via the Xbox and its USB ports. So all you have to do is connect your controller to your PC, go to device manager, select the Xbox 360 controller, then go to properties and then to the drivers tab to finally remove the drivers and not disable the device.

And there you go, you reconnect your lovely controller to your Xbox 360 and the beautiful red charge light comes on and it's good... phew you’re saved no need to buy new batteries or a new controller or put in new batteries!

Be careful to only charge on the motherboard's native ports, as the others are often underpowered.

directly on the Xbox plug and unplug alternating between port 1 and 2 until you have the charging indicator (red) that holds up.

The last method worked for me (problem with the red light that only shows for a few seconds).

The fact of unplugging every time the green light appears until the red light stabilizes (finally) allowed me to save on a new play & charge kit.

Hi and thank you so much!!! I just bought a second-hand controller with a battery + usb = dead battery and green light after a few seconds. Method of BOULE three times in a row and... YAHOO!!!!!

Can I play while the controller is charging?

Hello, I had the same problem as you with the charge & play, the battery was dead and when I put it on charge no light came on, I unplugged and replugged it several times and then the red LED came on and turned green a few seconds later I unplugged it and the controller disconnected I plugged it into the Mac but there seems to be no compatibility or I just didn't find it, so I unplugged it from the Mac. I then put charged batteries in it and after 10 seconds, not even the controller turns off while I just charged the batteries and they work, I even tested them... So I reconnected the charging cable and, as if by chance, the red LED lights up and the battery is charging. I don't understand why my rechargeable batteries are no longer recognized as charged by the controller and why the charge & play is bugging like this knowing that I haven't modified anything on the Mac and in my opinion nothing in the controller has been modified when I plugged it in unlike on PCs.

Same here, even though I had to do this at least 200 times, it worked.

In fact, you shouldn't insert the cable all the way into the controller, just at the edge and keep pulling it in/out/in/out until it finally turns red.

Mine had the green light come on for just a fraction of a second, that's all. After doing this repeatedly, it eventually worked.
