How to remove the shortcut arrow Solved

Question

Hello everyone, I happened to remove the arrow from all the shortcut icons. But I no longer remember how I did it.... I don't even know if it's thanks to an icon editing software or a simple Windows option. If a kind soul knows, I would be delighted to put my desktop back to normal, I know, a bit of a neat freak...!! Thank you, Victor.

Hello,
Under XP, to remove the arrow:
Start, run regedit
-Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT then lnkfile
-Delete the key "IsShortcut"
-Close the registry and restart

To bring it back, recreate the key "IsShortcut"

 WARNING! This is not applicable under Windows 7

Hello All

Contrary to what was said just before, I find this arrow very annoying (to put it politely).

For example, I have lots of shortcuts on my desktop, without icons (empty icon) and I put different screensavers and programs that I don’t want to see (because they would ruin the Wallpaper) and this arrow messes everything up.

Thank you very much for the method to remove it, because when I bought my PC, it wasn’t there, but after formatting, there’s no way to get rid of it...

I have Windows Vista and the action in Run doesn't work, on the contrary, it puts arrows under every icon, even the originals.

Hey everyone!

First of all, a big shoutout to hourrah!!!!

I had been looking at those damn arrows for a while and trying to figure out how to REMOVE them with Windows, I'm so glad it's finally done!!!

As for me, I'm on VISTA 64, it's the same process as XP except at the beginning it's "All Programs" in the "Start" menu, "Accessories", then type "regedit" and hit enter, go to the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" directory, "lnkfile" using the right scroll bar down to the Ls, then delete the "IsShortcut" file and restart the computer

And there you go, all that's left is to admire your pretty and beautiful icons

After following this method (renaming IsShortcut), I realize that, like with Mendos, my favorite links have disappeared!
Does anyone know how to make them reappear without bringing back those damn arrows on the desktop icons?

This method should be avoided under Windows 7.
It then becomes impossible to pin programs to the taskbar and also impossible to display the hierarchy in the start menu when an icon is set as a menu.

There is another method to remove the arrows; I will try to find it and send it to you as soon as I have it.

I didn't do it, and I can't get the arrows back; I have a black square instead. Even by changing
%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,50 to
%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,51

There is another method, which is safer.
Install a program that allows you to remove the arrows.

In the "Start" menu, open "Run". In the "Open" box, type "regedit" and click OK. Open "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" and go to the "lnkfile" folder with a lowercase L and not an I, rename the file "lsShortcut" to "xsShortcut" (just change the first letter), close the folder, restart, and that's it.
