Hello,
I just discovered Numbers. In personal budget, monthly net income, I cannot enter decimals.
After selecting the corresponding cells and clicking on "increase decimals" in the taskbar, I only got a result in the first two. The balance gives the following message: The, in quotes 1 small dash " - " (I couldn't find the same quotes on my keyboard) operator expects a number but cell B3 contains a string. I wonder if it's possible to achieve this and how? Thank you for kindly telling me the procedure to follow. If there is one, of course.
Good evening everyone Gimatomi
P.S. I am on iMacOS X

Good evening,
I don't quite understand your message. I imagine that when you refer to "the taskbar," you mean the buttons in the toolbar.
But I don't understand this sentence:
I took a screenshot, and I think you are indeed referring to the selected table that we see above.

If this is indeed the case, you can see that I increased the number of decimals. (I set 2 decimal places, but you can set more).
You can take a screenshot of your problem, or else explain it a little more clearly?
Best regards

I took a screenshot, and I think you are indeed referring to the selected table that we see above.

Indeed, my request was not clear. Please accept my apologies for that. The approach I am taking may not be the right one. I am unable to achieve the same result in the three cells. I would be grateful if you could describe it to me. The sentence you do not understand is a message in a window that says: The <<->> operator expects a number, but cell B3 contains a string. I’m giving you the sentence as I read it.
In any case, I would like to thank you for your interest in my problem.
Sincerely
GIMATOMI
It seems that cell B3 of the table, in your case, contains not a value, but text. This is possible, as even numbers can be text instead of a numeric value; it depends on the manipulations you did.
For example, when trying to use Numbers instead of Excel in some cases, I copied cells from Excel into Numbers, but instead of keeping the content of these cells, Numbers converted them to text format instead of considering the content as a numeric value. I noticed this by the fact that the content of the cells was aligned to the left instead of the right.
You can change the format of the cell and tell it that this cell contains a number, or a currency in euros or another, or text.
To do this, click on the blue icon in the menu bar called "Inspector," then in the Inspector window, click on the third icon that allows you to choose the cell format, and there you specify Number or Currency.
Afterwards, to increase or decrease the number of decimals, simply click on the icon that represents ",00" or ",0".
