Hello,
Is it possible to have a dynamic IP while subscribed to Free?
I'm wondering about that.
If yes, how could we do it?
Thank you in advance for your answers,
Have a nice day.

Hello,
like you, I wanted a dynamic IP address, so I asked Free who told me that they no longer provide (strangely) dynamic IPs, only static IPs. I wanted to get another opinion from them, so I contacted them via chat, here are their responses:
-
[5:43 PM] Support: How can I help you?
[5:47 PM] Me: Hello, since I have a static IP, I would like to have a dynamic IP, is that possible?
[5:48 PM] Support: I inform you that this is not available at Free, Free only offers static IPs
[5:49 PM] Support: I hope I was clear with you, did I meet your expectations?
[5:49 PM] Me: okay thanks
[5:52 PM] Support: On behalf of the entire Free team, I wish you a great end of the day. You can always consult your dedicated support site at the following web address: www.free.fr/assistance

Hi,
As far as I remember, the IP was dynamic at first and it was following a request from me that I switched to a fixed IP. Have they changed this system? ^^

It all depends on your type of access (unbundled/partially unbundled/nothing at all). A little reading: https://www.free.fr/assistance/247-freebox-adresse-ip-et-reverse-dns-ip-fixe.html

In unbundled areas, you automatically have a free fixed IP address.
The IP address is used to identify your Freebox, so it is not possible to have a floating IP in unbundled areas.
In non-unbundled areas, you have a default floating IP address.
However, you can request a fixed IP through your management interface at no cost. Please note that once a fixed IP is obtained, this is permanent, and it is no longer possible to change it or revert to a floating IP. Also, be aware that the request for a fixed IP may temporarily be unavailable. You will need to wait for new ranges to be allocated and are advised to renew your request the following month.

Hi Camille, I also wanted to do that but I was told it wasn't possible because to do so, you had to talk to Free since the IP can be compared to a phone number and if you wanted to change it, you had to contact Telecom. So for the IP, it's the same; it's your provider who can do it. Maybe I was just told some nonsense. Good luck with your research. @+

Hi everyone, due to a lack of curiosity, we risk dying ignorant.

I was directly assigned a fixed IP without anyone asking for my opinion...
So, having a dynamic IP would be impossible unless I asked Free?
Did you ask Benurrr? What did they say?
Thanks for your answers.

no, it's not for better protection, it's just for confidentiality. if in a forum I decide to have two usernames, it's not so that people know it's the same person behind them.
another example, if your IP is banned from a site, forum, IRC channel, etc., you're in big trouble when you have a static IP.
another example, if someone sees your static IP by opening one of your emails, you become an easy target for that person or that advertising site or company, etc.
so the argument that also involves security is confidentiality (relative, of course, but better than with a static IP).
and yes, I know the phrase that people proudly shout at the top of their lungs "if you have nothing to hide, you don't need to be that paranoid." I respond yes, but at home, I also have nothing to hide, and that doesn't mean I leave my door and window open and walk around naked in front of everyone.

I received a response stating that if I don't change my subscription, I will always have the same IP.
If I cancel and reopen a contract, I will have a different but still static IP...
Apparently, there are no other solutions...

Yes, the public IP, the one I get when I go to sites like http://www.mon-ip.com/
Is it possible to have it dynamically or not?
