Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro that just came out of repair and now I have a new problem!
I can't move files from one place to another anymore.
Can you please help me?!? It's super important! I'm lost!
Is there something I need to uncheck that I might have accidentally checked?
Thank you all for your replies

Dear namesake,
Do you mean that you cannot move the files in Finder (in which case you should check the options in the View menu)? Or is it from one folder to another?
In the second case, is the destination folder locked?
To check this: click on the folder to select it, then press Command-I or go to Get Info in the File menu. A window named after the folder will appear; in the middle, the "Locked" checkbox must be unchecked.
If your issue concerns all folders, you'll need to be patient and perform the operation on all of them :-/
Best regards.

Hello,
"It's about moving a file into another"... Uh, you mean "moving a file into another folder", I think.
In your first message, you said "I can't do it anymore", which means you could do it before! Let's start from the beginning. Can you give us:
- the model as precise as possible of the Mac, the RAM...
- the version of Mac OS
- the circumstances that preceded or surrounded the start of the problem (power outage, download, etc...).
In the meantime, a "permissions repair" won't hurt. If that’s not enough, we can imagine the Finder preferences might be corrupted: search for the file com.apple.finder.plist, drag it to the trash, and restart the Finder (Apple menu > Force Quit > Finder, "Relaunch").

Hello,
I would like to revive this topic because I have the same problem.
Let me explain the situation:
I installed Ubuntu on my MacBook Pro and wanted to access my MacOS partition. So I opened all permissions on my disk (read and write for everyone applied to all folders). It worked, but MacOS wouldn't start anymore (endless reboot at startup). I then repaired the permissions from the OSX installation disk, my OSX partition started up fine, but now I can't move any folders or copy and paste (these are the symptoms I've noticed; there may be others...)
So, does anyone have a solution? Because I really don't want to do another installation again...
Thanks in advance
Kerria

Unfortunately, I had already checked the file locks, and there are none!
It's about moving a file into another one, putting them on the Finder... in short! All movements are impossible for me! That's why I thought there might be something to uncheck in the computer's preferences, but I can't find it... It's a real puzzle!
Thank you for worrying about me!
