I am reading a document about PHP, and I saw this sentence. Please, I do not understand what "alias" means. Here is the sentence: "In order for your PHP pages to be interpreted, it is essential to place your files in the 'www' directory or in an alias that you have created."

You can think of the word alias as a "nick" in a directory. For example, under mIRC, you can identify yourself by your real name just as you can take on a nick (and this for security reasons). This nick is your alias. And that’s also the same reason why we use borrowed names to mask the real name of the folder where the actual pages (Php or Asp) exist.
