European PS3 DVD Zone 1

Hello,

My PS3 is a 40GB, Zone 2, I assume since it was bought in France.

Can I order Blu-ray DVDs from the US and read them on the PS3, or do I need to deactivate (region-free) it? If so, how?

Regards,
k

Hello, are you really sure that a Blu-ray with Zone 1 indicated on the back will work on a French 40GB PS3?
thanks in advance for your reply

The DVD Zone 1 discs will not play on a European PS3 console; at the time of DVDs, the policy was to split markets by continent, so 5 zones. For Blu-Rays there are now only 3 zones (A (USA), B (Europe), C), but some publishers like Universal and Warner no longer apply this system and their discs work everywhere. I suggest you visit this site: www.blu-ray.com, which lists all American Blu-Ray releases and specifies for each whether they are zoned or not.

      Hello,

As a general rule, for Blu-rays there’s no problem; I brought one from the US and it works perfectly on my French console.
But on the DVD side it’s more tricky, I’m trying to find a solution. It’s impossible to read a Zone 1 disc on a European PS3..

DVD and Blu-ray Disc are two different things! First.
