Hello,

URGENT - Looking for a motherboard for ACER ASPIRE E650.

Due to a misplaced screwdriver, my Acer E650 motherboard is dead... it appears to be an ECS 945G-M6 v1.0. In order to be able to use my XP license (Acer), I am looking for this motherboard! Mission Impossible?

For your information: http://detail.www.com.cn/infodetail/1/2008-02-29/1174432-1-840396.html?trace=%E8%B6%85%E5%BE%AE%E4%B8%BB%E6%9D%BF

Thank you in advance.

There is no obligation to find an identical motherboard; you can use any socket 775 microATX motherboard, that's the only essential condition.
Reinstalling XP will not be a problem.

Thank you flo88 for your response!

I am really surprised by your answer: Are you really sure of what you are saying?

All the sites I have visited talk about the Acer Tattoo and they indicate, in addition to the specific BIOS, an xls file in the HDD MBR that checks the components and the motherboard, and if this does not match the Acer XP OEM configuration, XP will not start because it loads or not the Windows activation code into memory at each PC startup (unlike Packard Bell)... Have you ever changed a motherboard on an Acer, and did your OS still work (after reinstalling, of course...)

Thank you

Several scenarios:
If you change the motherboard without reinstalling XP, it probably won't work unless you uninstall the drivers from the old motherboard first. This doesn’t seem possible in your case, since the board is dead.

Another solution: change the motherboard and try to restore XP using the recovery tools provided by Acer:
Again, this might not work, because the image or CD/DVD is configured for a specific motherboard model, the installation might fail.

The solution:
Get an XP installation CD (the same version as the one that was on your PC, either XP home or pro) from a friend or acquaintance.
Install XP with this CD (by deleting all the old partitions, including the "recovery") and when the installation routine asks you for the license number, you enter the one that is on the sticker attached to your PC.
This number is the most important, it allows you a complete and clean reinstallation, this number corresponds to YOUR XP.

This method is perfectly legal and works every time, regardless of the brand of the computer.

P.S: Regarding the choice of the motherboard, I forgot to mention to pay attention to the graphics card interface (if you have one)

Well done Flo88 !!!!

Thank you for the clarity and precision of your response, which completely satisfies me!

However, for the reinstallation of the new OS, is a low-level format required to eliminate the MBR (Acer tattoo) and the recovery partition, because apparently (I have already tried, I was unable to install another OS on the Acer tattooed HDD, but it was not with a different motherboard?). Then, for XP Media Center Edition, which Windows will work with my license? The same one?

Thank you in advance.

It is preferable to find an XP Media Center.

For the disk, deleting the partitions using the Windows utility should be enough, it erases everything.
