Setting up Linksys WAG54G

Question

Hello everyone
I have a Linksys WAG54G FR ADSL Wi-Fi router and a WPC54G PCMCIA card. I want to connect to freeadsl using this equipment (so wirelessly) but I'm having no luck.
To make matters worse, technical support is only available during my working hours, so I need help

I'll give you a response while I'm in the same configuration + the same ISP, so it works well.

You need to set up a PPPOA configuration with VCI=8, VPI=35
and especially in LLC multiplexing.

USERNAME = your ISP's one
PASSWORD = your ISP's one

In the "security" tab, you disable the FW for the first
tests, you should then see the LED on the far right
blinking.

Once everything is okay, you carefully install your rules on the FW
and then you re-enable the active FW. (you can follow the content of the CD for that in the chapter in English)

If you need info about VCI/VPI, go to FREE's technical FAQ. Otherwise, I can send you a slide from an ATM course I give. For that, I would need your email.

I've just received it and already have problems
I'm with FREE in unbundled mode, so on DHCP (I don't even know what that means).
I've configured the WAG54G modem with the settings I had with my Sagem 800, which are:
RFC 1483 routed, VPI 8, VCI 36, VC

With automatic IP acquisition, I don't have a connection. So I've entered my FREE IP address

And now in the status, I see that I'm connected with my Ethernet card and to the Internet (seen under Network in XP)
I have transactions in both directions for both connections?

But here's my problem, as soon as I launch IE, I get the classic page as if I weren't connected, and yet the icon in the taskbar indicates that I'm connected????

Help, I don't understand anything anymore.

If anyone has the same setup

FREE unbundled and LINKSYS WAG54G connected via Ethernet (for the Wi-Fi connection, I'll look at that later one thing at a time), I would be grateful if someone could help me out.

Hello,
I have an ADSL router WAG54G. I'm configuring it and everything works, it connects to the internet and all that jazz. There are 2 PCs connected with RJ-45 network cables and it's working perfectly, never had a problem. However, I have one PC connected wirelessly (with a USB device), it connects very well, we can also browse the internet, but the problem is that as soon as I do a big transfer between the wireless PC and a PC with a cable, the wireless network, not the wired one, gets blocked, and I have to do a network refresh on Windows to reconnect, having first disabled and then re-enabled the wireless network card. This problem also occurs when I download files from the internet; after a while, the PC disconnects from the network, and I have to reconnect again. I configured it roughly as instructed in the setup procedure, but I would also like to configure it from scratch using the different functions. The thing is, I'm not great with English. So if anyone can help me solve my problem or find help in French to configure my router, it would be a great help, I’m tired of these disconnections!!!

Once plugged in, everything seems to work fine, except when I open IE and enter http://192.168.1.1, nothing happens??
My card is: Accton WN4201b(eu)802.11g wireless PCI card.

In my WAG54-FR gateway configuration, the internet connection has not been recognized so I am closely following the forums discussing this issue.
Regarding the type of encapsulation, you indicate PPPoA VC, however, in my menu I only have one choice in PPPoA, the RFC2634 PPPoA while the Sagem modem provided by Free uses the PPPoA VXCMUX type. What do you think?

In case of non-recognition of the Linksys Password Screen
Check the options in Internet Explorer

> Delete Cookies
> Delete Files
> Clear History

Security Tab
Medium-low security level (internet and intranet)

Connections Tab
check Never dial a connection
> Network Settings nothing should be checked

I solved the issue, actually the problem was with the router;
I had to reset it, unplug the network or phone cables,
hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then unplug it from the power while still holding the reset for another 30 seconds, which totals one minute! After that, I plugged it back in and it worked ;-)

I've also struggled with a setup: WAG54G + brand new PC with W_XP-pro... Here's the result of my efforts:
Step 1: connection PC-WAG via Ethernet.
Default settings indicated by Linksys, with keep alive set => the WAG seems correctly configured; its 'ADSL' LED lights up after a few seconds: OK. Access (test) to the Linksys site: OK
BUT: Access to my ISP (laposte.net): partial, only its homepage: Unable to go to other sites....

Changes made:
- on WAG settings: switched VC settings from VC to LLC (thanks to whoever pointed this out).
- on WAG settings: changed the MTU from "automatic/1500" to "manual / 1145" (the Linksys hotline suggested adjusting this value manually, decreasing by 5 from 1492...)
- on IE: under 'tools/internet options/general tab': set my ISP's homepage as default
... And with all this, it works....

To be continued: switching to Wifi between this same WAG and this PC, then networking (Wifi) with another PC running W2k ...
If anyone has already solved issues with this configuration: thanks in advance for your info.

Hello Didier  Personally, I am not unbundled. Personally, I do not use the security features of the gateway; I use Norton Internet Security, which I manage quite well. to conclude, you need to have protection; otherwise, future problems.

Hello,  I also have the same setup as most of you, free non-unbundled (512k), WAG54G router, WPC54G wireless card. I have one computer wired to the router and a laptop connected via Wi-Fi. Both computers have internet access, but they cannot see each other on the network. Is this normal? My router is configured with DHCP, and they belong to the same workgroup. In the administration interface, on the DHCP clients page, addresses have been assigned correctly?  Can someone explain to me why the two computers cannot see each other?  Catman

Hi everyone I noticed that most of you are having trouble connecting to the internet with this modem/router. I also had problems, meaning that everything was well configured but I couldn't display a webpage. After several searches, I found the solution for me, which was to set an IP address in the TCP/IP settings of the wifi network adapter (to 192.168.1.10) as well as the gateway 192.168.1.1 and the primary and secondary DNS that can be obtained from the provider, at least for me (Belgium), so manually, because automatically Windows didn't do it correctly. I also want to point out that I bought the WUSB54G wifi adapter because before that I had a PCI card and... it was a mess for me, losing power because after a few minutes or an hour it dropped to 1 Mbps, and now with the USB adapter, I'm getting at least 18 Mbps.  There you go, hoping this experience helps someone  See you!

I share a connection with my neighbors who is also my sister ;-), they have 2 PCs connected via Ethernet and I have 2 PCs on Wi-Fi. At first, everything worked well and then either it refuses to connect or it disconnects every 10 minutes with perpetual fluctuations in flow. I read all your messages carefully   but as far as I'm concerned  I'm a bit more advanced in the network than some and so in my case a few questions remain   here it is, I am connected to the internet via the router (wag54g) and the second PC, which is connected via Wi-Fi through a PCI card, connects to the network without any problem  by the way when I go to the router's config page it sees the PC in "wireless client connected"   the only problem is that  1) I can't access the internet on the second PC  2) I can't see the shared files on the PCs ("I don't have the permissions...")   do you know what to do?   ps: here are the points of my router's config that might help you)  the firewall is "enabled"  I'm not on "Connection Keep Alive Redial period 30 Sec" but on "connect on demand" (why change, internet works?) I purchased a WAG54G modem/router + a WMP54G WiFi PCI card. Since then, nothing really works well... except for Internet access with FREE. The PC connected by cable works very well with FREE but not in network with the other one. The PC connected via WiFi struggles to access the Internet and even less to communicate with the other one on the network. The WAG54G stops broadcasting after a few seconds to 2 or 3 minutes. The response received from the hotline is to download firmware 1.02.5. But nothing works. The only solution for it to start broadcasting again is to go to the setup page and click on save settings. In short, this equipment is unusable. What should I do?

Hi, I had the same problem and the solution was to go to the control panel, then to system, and click on the device manager. Finally, you need to go to the properties of the wifi card and in power management, uncheck the option that allows the laptop to disconnect the card to save energy. I don't see what I can provide as clarifications   for example, I type "linksys" in Google and on the second computer it also writes the word "linksys", so when I'm online and the second computer is too, everything gets mixed up, it's very annoying, we can't use both computers at the same time.

Hello everyone,  My current ADSL connection with Wanadoo is done through a SpeedTouch USB and everything has been working fine for years.  When I connect the WAG54G (and only it, there is nothing else on the phone line), it does not pick up the ADSL: the ADSL LED blinks for 5 seconds, turns off, then after +/- 30 seconds blinks again for 5 seconds, turns off, etc.  FT tested the line and confirms that everything is functioning normally.  Has anyone ever encountered this problem and found a solution? Thank you.

I'm in the same situation as Chantal, AOL ISP is down, and Linksys support is at inconvenient times. ADSL line with AOL speed touch = no problem Attempt with wag54g (2 days to go through the manual) = 0 connection. Has anyone encountered this problem and knows the solution for AOL? Config details: 1 HP PC with Windows XP + PCI card 1 laptop with Windows XP The Wifi network seems to work intermittently, weak signal, and random disconnections, but total failure for the internet connection. Hello everyone.  "A nice new Linksys WAG54G from Montgallet so I wouldn't have wires everywhere," I thought... Well, here’s the problem. I have a PC without Wi-Fi nearby the phone socket, so I plug it in via Ethernet to the modem/router. So far, so good. I also have a laptop connected via Wi-Fi, which detected the router perfectly. Basically, both machines can ping the gateway and ping each other, so no issues there.  BUT accessing the internet is another story! The DSL light is green, no problem, it recognizes the line, but the internet light is red! When I go into the web configuration utility, I know I am on PPPo? so I tried E and A while changing VC and LLC, entering my connection parameters and everything, and nothing, still red...  Just so you know, I’m with Wanadoo on a 1024 non-unbundled line (of course...), on Windows 2000 Pro.  And in the SETUP I have:  Encapsulation PPPoA (PPPoE sometimes if I try PPPoE...) VPI 8 VCI 35 LLC (I've already tried changing to VC) My connection info Keep alive 20sec For my host, I put my Wanadoo email address Domain: wanadoo.fr MTU auto   In STATUS I have:  Pr gateway: ADSL link Up PPP login disconnected (when I try it goes to connecting and 5 seconds later back to disconnected without ever being connected) Internet IP: well nothing, 000... No, but I only have the WAG54G. Linksys calls it a gateway, but actually, it acts as both a modem and a router. So I call it a modem router. ^^  I don't use DHCP; I use fixed IPs in my local network, however, Wanadoo assigns me a dynamic IP. I am in the same situation.  Modem-Router Linksys Wag54g. ADSL Wanadoo 2 Mega no unbundling.  Access to the Wag54g box without any problems. Which config to choose RFC 1483 bridged, RFC 1483 Routed, RFC 2516 PPPoE, RFC 2364 PPPoA?  Ethernet LED 1 is on (only one connection on the LAN, green DSL LED is on, internet LED is red. It doesn't turn green.   I can't see where to look to make progress.  If it is possible to get some help. (I printed the CD documentation to make sure I follow the instructions correctly. The PPPoA or PPPoE or RFC... all of this depends on your Internet service provider and your unbundling. Let me explain: for example, with Free, if you are unbundled, you will use PPPoE, but if you are not unbundled, you will use PPPoA. You just need to ask your ISP or check their website. However, I connected my Linksys WAG 54G modem router to my Freebox via the Ethernet port to get Wi-Fi on my laptop; I activated the router function on the Free website. My Wi-Fi connection is detected on my laptop, but I have a problem: it's impossible to load web pages. Thank you, is there anyone who can help me? A++ LALOU

Good evening,  I see that there are a lot of connection issues for users with Wanadoo. I have the configuration for a WAG54G  PPPoA 8 VC35 LLC or VC (both work ;)  However, I have a BIG problem. When I use my 1 Mbps connection on a certain software (BF2 to be specific [it's a very good game]), I have rather annoying irregular disconnections (from a few minutes to about fifty minutes). With the following message in the router log:  The pppoe-server doesn't support the IPCP option 0x90.  If someone can tell me what this is, I would avoid spending time rebooting everything in the hope that it works.  PS: I have a bit (actually a lot) of the feeling that this comes from the ISP. But still !!!! PS 2: I couldn't find any page where Linksys lists the errors of its modems. Is there one???  Thank you in advance.  Have a good evening Win AIR

Hello!  I got a Linksys WAG54G router some time ago, and I managed to configure it: ethernet OK wifi OK internet connection OK everything was working perfectly, web pages loaded quickly, the wifi signal strength was always "good", in short, the whole package. Except that in online games, I was lagging at regular intervals. For example, in CS, I found it really strange to lag like that, especially since I always had a ping of 70/80. So I did a "net_graf3" and I noticed that every 45 seconds to 1 minute, I had a spike of "loss" occurring, hence my lag. I talked about my problem to an acquaintance on MSN, who was knowledgeable about routers, and he gave me a configuration to try. Result: PERFECT, once the changes were made, no more lag, no more loss, a perfect network.  YES! But now, recently I had to reset my router, and since then, it's the same issue again. I do have internet access, the network is functioning, still a ping of 70/80 in games BUT again spikes of "loss." Result, online games are unplayable!  And of course, I can't reach that acquaintance on MSN :(  If anyone knows the solution, it would help me GREATLY!  THANK YOU @+  p.s: I'm using a Linksys Speebooster PCI wifi card.
