Setting up Linksys WAG54G

gigipod -

Hello everyone
I have a Linksys WAG54G FR ADSL Wi-Fi router and a WPC54G PCMCIA card. I want to connect to freeadsl using this equipment (so wirelessly) but I'm having no luck.
To make matters worse, technical support is only available during my working hours, so I need help
Thank you in advance

I'll give you a response while I'm in the same configuration + the same ISP, so it works well.

You need to set up a PPPOA configuration with VCI=8, VPI=35
    and especially in LLC multiplexing.

    USERNAME = your ISP's one
    PASSWORD = your ISP's one

In the "security" tab, you disable the FW for the first
tests, you should then see the LED on the far right
    blinking.

Once everything is okay, you carefully install your rules on the FW
and then you re-enable the active FW. (you can follow the content of the CD for that in the chapter in English)

If you need info about VCI/VPI, go to FREE's technical FAQ. Otherwise, I can send you a slide from an ATM course I give. For that, I would need your email.

Hi, I saw that you were able to help someone with a similar problem to mine.
For me: I connect the router as described in the little installation book. All good.
I have an Asus Wi-Fi network card and the software manages my Wi-Fi networks, so I find the connection to the router, connect to the router, enter the credentials, open the IE window, type the address http://192.168.1.1, enter "admin" as well as the password "admin," and everything is fine.
I use an ADSL connection with Free, not unbundled, at 1024. I enter a protocol in PPPoA, VC, my login, and the username, and I hit save. And then nothing.
The ADSL light blinks and turns off. This happens every 30 seconds or so (which should be normal).
I updated the firmware, and it's still the same.
And then I'm stuck, my knowledge quickly runs out for this kind of problem.
      Could you please help me?
      Thank you
      Mat

      Hello

My Case: Internet connection not recognized. Since it works at your place, I would like to know the settings in the "Status" tab of the Linksys configuration

      Personally, I have:

      Current Time Disabled
PPP Login Disconnected I've clicked on connect, nothing happens
      Internet Address 0.0.0.0

      If you can?

The configuration may be different between subscribers
connected to a unbundled site and those connected to a non-unbundled site.

I'm only speaking for FREE, of course.

In my case with the Lynksys 54G here are my parameters:

      ADSL Link: Connected
      PPP Login: Connected
      Internet IP Address: 82.254.194.136
      Public Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      Default Gateway: 192.168.254.254
      Primary DNS Server: 212.27.32.176

      System Statistics

      Packets Sent: 8744
      Packets Received: 12622

My area is being unbundled, which is curious because I went from 512 Kb/s to a somewhat "hybrid" value of 1216 Kbps, see below:

Only PPOA works on my line, I'm waiting for more information.

      Status: Connected
      Downstream Rate: 1216 Kbps
      Upstream Rate: 160 Kbps

      Encapsulation: RFC 2364 PPPoA
      VPI: 8
      VCI: 35
      Multiplexing: LLC

      Try this configuration.
      use the Windows command ipconfig
      1) Set your computers to DHCP client
      2) configure the router to allocate addresses on a free range
      3) ipconfig /renew // or reboot the workstations

PS: obviously you will note in passing that in this config the router obtains addresses dynamically.

There you go, I hope this helps.

Precision I am exactly in your situation, Fai = Free non-unbundled ADSL at 512 kb/s, I think I'll be waiting a long time, my line not allowing for the upgrade to 1024 kb/s.

After a check, I will need to enter parameters in the STATUS tab of Linksys; I need to find out how to do that.

I haven't found where the following are located:

      Status : Connected
      Downstream Rate : n kb/s
      Upstream Rate : n kb/s

I know how to use DOS for ipConfig and run ping tests, but for the two following lines, I'm not sure what to do:

Set your machines as DHCP clients
Configure the router to distribute addresses on a free range

In conclusion, the problem of recognizing the Internet connection lies there.

      Thanks again.

Thank you for your help KML, but as I am a novice and not good at English, I would like to ask you a few questions
What do you mean by ISP, VCI/VPI, and ATM?
You see, I have a lot to learn, but I'm eager to learn

      Hello gigipod

I don't know if you've solved your problem, but at first you need
a computer connected via Ethernet to the WAG54 (at least I think so) to access the gateway settings. Once that's done, you can access it from the other computers on the Wi-Fi network.

Personally, I faced the inconvenience of being unable to open the screen "Linksys password." If that's the case for you, let me know.

    Hi
I've just received it and already have problems
I'm with FREE in unbundled mode, so on DHCP (I don't even know what that means).
I've configured the WAG54G modem with the settings I had with my Sagem 800, which are:
RFC 1483 routed, VPI 8, VCI 36, VC

With automatic IP acquisition, I don't have a connection. So I've entered my FREE IP address

And now in the status, I see that I'm connected with my Ethernet card and to the Internet (seen under Network in XP)
I have transactions in both directions for both connections?

But here's my problem, as soon as I launch IE, I get the classic page as if I weren't connected, and yet the icon in the taskbar indicates that I'm connected????

Help, I don't understand anything anymore.

If anyone has the same setup

FREE unbundled and LINKSYS WAG54G connected via Ethernet (for the Wi-Fi connection, I'll look at that later one thing at a time), I would be grateful if someone could help me out.

Thanks in advance for any response

      Hi,

I don't know if your problem has been solved,

if your Internet Service Provider uses DHCP for your internet address, no problems, set your PCs to automatic IP and your router to DHCP server.

If your ISP uses DHCP for your PCs (so internally), you need to configure your PCs to automatic IP and your router to DHCP RELAY, but I would really be very surprised if this second solution is the case.

    Hello,
I have an ADSL router WAG54G. I'm configuring it and everything works, it connects to the internet and all that jazz. There are 2 PCs connected with RJ-45 network cables and it's working perfectly, never had a problem. However, I have one PC connected wirelessly (with a USB device), it connects very well, we can also browse the internet, but the problem is that as soon as I do a big transfer between the wireless PC and a PC with a cable, the wireless network, not the wired one, gets blocked, and I have to do a network refresh on Windows to reconnect, having first disabled and then re-enabled the wireless network card. This problem also occurs when I download files from the internet; after a while, the PC disconnects from the network, and I have to reconnect again. I configured it roughly as instructed in the setup procedure, but I would also like to configure it from scratch using the different functions. The thing is, I'm not great with English. So if anyone can help me solve my problem or find help in French to configure my router, it would be a great help, I’m tired of these disconnections!!!

Thank you in advance for your replies.

When you type this IP, is your PC connected to the modem or not? I mean, does everything work, internet and all, except when you type this address?

    Good evening

In my WAG54-FR gateway configuration, the internet connection has not been recognized so I am closely following the forums discussing this issue.
Regarding the type of encapsulation, you indicate PPPoA VC, however, in my menu I only have one choice in PPPoA, the RFC2634 PPPoA while the Sagem modem provided by Free uses the PPPoA VXCMUX type. What do you think?

    Hello, try this

Prerequisite: if you have an internet connection and you’re going in circles, you need to remove it

In case of non-recognition of the Linksys Password Screen
Check the options in Internet Explorer

    General Tab
    > Delete Cookies
    > Delete Files
    > Clear History

    Security Tab
Medium-low security level (internet and intranet)

    Connections Tab
    check Never dial a connection
    > Network Settings nothing should be checked

    it worked for me

Hello, thanks for your help ;-)
    I solved the issue, actually the problem was with the router;
I had to reset it, unplug the network or phone cables,
hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then unplug it from the power while still holding the reset for another 30 seconds, which totals one minute! After that, I plugged it back in and it worked ;-)
    @++ Best regards, Kévin

      Hi
I had the same problem as you.
      Connection then disconnection
I had Norton, I switched to Panda and now it's working a bit better for a while.
I say a bit better because I still have disconnections, but that's because another Wi-Fi network is taking over mine.
So I moved the PC closer to the router and since then it's been perfect
Oh, I forgot, you can unplug the router to reset the connection
But it doesn’t work every time
      Good luck Bye

    Hello everyone
I've also struggled with a setup: WAG54G + brand new PC with W_XP-pro... Here's the result of my efforts:
Step 1: connection PC-WAG via Ethernet.
Default settings indicated by Linksys, with keep alive set => the WAG seems correctly configured; its 'ADSL' LED lights up after a few seconds: OK. Access (test) to the Linksys site: OK
BUT: Access to my ISP (laposte.net): partial, only its homepage: Unable to go to other sites....

    Changes made:
    - on WAG settings: switched VC settings from VC to LLC (thanks to whoever pointed this out).
    - on WAG settings: changed the MTU from "automatic/1500" to "manual / 1145" (the Linksys hotline suggested adjusting this value manually, decreasing by 5 from 1492...)
    - on IE: under 'tools/internet options/general tab': set my ISP's homepage as default
... And with all this, it works....

To be continued: switching to Wifi between this same WAG and this PC, then networking (Wifi) with another PC running W2k ...
If anyone has already solved issues with this configuration: thanks in advance for your info.
    Cheers

      Hello.

      Thank you Rayga.

Are you with Free in totally unbundled mode?

Because when retrieving the data from the Sagem provided by Free,
it seems that the encapsulation mode is not the same
for me... I would need to set it to "Routed"
(and it really doesn't work properly this way)

I will try your config tonight and let you know.

      See you later

      Hello Rayga, hello everyone.

Rayga, I tested it with your setup. It doesn't work for me...
      ( I'm completely unbundled )
      Thanks anyway.

However, I found a solution to my problem.

I connected with my Sagem modem provided by Free
I retrieved the connection data (Mode, VPI, VCI, ...)
I got my IP address from Free (by using eMule!!!)

So I was able to fill in the WAG.

It managed to connect, but only for very short moments.
      Then it all got stuck.

      In the end

To avoid unexpected disconnections, I had to disable
      the WAG's firewall.

      And since then.... IT WORKS...
      Wired and Wi-Fi

      Yes, yes, yes.... IT WORKS...

      For how long?

      See you later

    Hello

As soon as we intervene on a tab, it is necessary to perform a save settings for the parameters to be taken into account, so this needs to be done for each modified tab (only "Status" is not concerned).
