Some sites won't open. Solved/Closed

Hello,  My problem is as follows, despite having disabled cookies, I can't access http://deviantart.com, nor can I log in to it. All the adjacent domains work (e.g.: cosfrog.deviantart.com) Also, myspace.com works, but all direct links to profiles do not work. (e.g.: https://myspace.com/ https://myspace.com/allshallperish works (both links are supposed to access the same page.)  Moreover, the site https://www.cracked.com/ does not work at all. I tried disabling my firewalls, I went to Tools>Options>Privacy>Cookies>Exceptions>[3 sites named above]>Accept. on Mozilla Firefox and the equivalent on Internet Explorer, but nothing works. Also, after looking at your FAQ, I requested ActiveX for downloads.  Here are the errors being given to me:  “The connection has failed”“Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server at address profile.myspace.com”  #The site may be temporarily unavailable or overloaded. Try again later;  #If you are unable to browse any site, check your computer's network connection;  #If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure Firefox has permission to access the Web.”Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.14

Hello everyone, so here it is, I had the same problem as you, unable to connect to "flickr.com", all the other sites were accessible though.   Basically, I managed to solve my problem thanks to "hall_21", but there's no need to delete everything in the hosts file. I just searched for the blocked site (flickr.com) in the hosts file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts". Basically, if the name of the blocked site appears in the hosts file, you just need to delete the line, then close the file and that's it.  For me, this trick worked, I hope it can help you.  If that’s not enough, here are some other suggestions:  Check the system date and time (secure sites won’t work if the computer isn’t set to the correct time)!  Try clearing your browser cache or increasing its capacity with ccleaner.  Try disabling extensions, especially if you have an AdBlocker  Try temporarily disabling your antivirus (this often comes from Avast)  Try changing your DNS: Open DNS or Google DNS

Hi  I’ve been having this problem for a few days too and I don’t understand the phenomenon I just formatted a week ago and despite everything, neither IE nor Firefox can open certain sites that respond fine when I ping or tracert them???  None of the links you posted work for me either  To try to move things forward, share some of your info like...  Provider: mine is Voo/cable Modem/router: Webstar via Ethernet Firewall antivirus: NOD32  Even though I don’t quite understand what that has to do with it since the majority of pages open maybe it’s a proxy problem from the provider that blocks the display (http) but not the requests (ping/tracert) but again, not for all sites... crazy story

hello guys !!    SAME as you ... :(( except that I reinstalled my "xp ultimate edition" windows and since then I can't access pages like FLICKR MYSPACE TORRENTZ .... I have also tried everything, I was advised to wait, maybe it's the provider that's at fault, but I still think there's a way to recover my old and good configuration, otherwise I will have to reinstall another windows :((( please help us ........

Hello everyone, I just found the solution!!!  The problem is related to a file called HOSTS.  This file is located at: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc (The etc does not mean etcetera, it is indeed the name of the folder).  A HOSTS file is also found in: C:\WINDOWS\i386 and there are several files named host, hosts, HOST on your PC, some with extensions, these should be ignored and not modified.  The only one to modify is the HOSTS file written in uppercase and without an extension located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc.  For more information about this HOSTS file: http://rlwpx.free.fr/WPFF/hosts.htm  To find the HOSTS file. Either search for it in the specified folder paths. Or use the Windows Search function.  To display the HOSTS file. Go to Folder Options > View > Show hidden files > check. (logically under U.E. this option should be checked). Still under 'View' > Hide protected operating system files [recommended] > uncheck > Respond 'Yes' to the warning message > Apply > OK.  To open the HOSTS file. The HOSTS file opens with Notepad. If it doesn't open after clicking on it, Choose a program to use to open this file: Click on Notepad in the list > OK or right-click on the HOSTS file and choose Open with Notepad.  To modify the HOSTS file. Remove all its contents (Ctrl + A to select all) and Copy/Paste this:  # Copyright (c) 1993-2008 Microsoft Corp. # # This is an example of a HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP # for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to hostnames. # Each entry must be on a separate line. Hello everyone If the requested site address redirects you to the homepage of Google or another website, then it is a security configuration to strengthen the security of the requested website, so more clearly:  Either your Browser is infected (if you can connect to those sites with Firefox but not with IE) and is not accepted by this website, or you have Worms etc. on your PC that make Zombie attacks on protected websites, which redirect you each time.  I advise you to download the Spyot software and vaccinate the hosts; it will repair the list of confidential addresses.  I hope I helped... Good luck

I have the same issue, access to certain sites is impossible...  But my hosts file is fine No problems with cache or cookies either...  Any other ideas?

Hello,  Personally, my hosts file is fine (no site additions) everything is working well on the internet, my firewall tells me that it hasn't blocked the site I'm trying to access (there's a real-time graph showing analyses and blocks) and I went to a site like "downornot" which tells me that the site is down only for me... I reset my bbox... I tried accessing with Internet Explorer (I'm on Firefox)...... and NOTHING! It's the only site that doesn't work... even though it was working a week ago! The site in question is akiba-online.com.  Does anyone have an idea? Thanks

So I have 2 laptops, one with Windows Vista Home Edition 32bit and Internet Explorer 8, and the other with Windows 7 Premium Edition 64bit, and Internet Explorer 9 64 bit and Mozilla

My problem is that on the Windows 7, some pages do not open; the page remains blank?
As for the internet configuration, the two PCs are the same (I mean that the connections are identical, DNS and others). Thank you for your response.

Same problem this morning (February 26, 2012).  It was likely avast! that had been corrupted and was blocking access to my site. Quite annoying, after all.  I removed avast! and installed AVG, and everything is working again.

Hello everyone  So after struggling a bit and checking several forums, I found out that my antivirus KSP is not 100% compatible with Win7  I learned that many antivirus programs cause issues with Win7 64-bit  thus blocking internet pages  So the best thing is to know your antivirus well and to check if it's compatible with your version of Win 7  Regards
