Hello UnNovice,
There is no tutorial in French.... but to group two files, you need to select the Scene option... and ...in the right window... make sure that the green video portions of the timeline (the selected sections) and the red sections of the timeline (the unselected-abandoned selections) are displayed.
To make the junction.... select from the related menu... only the kept files in the right window... which were in the green sections on the timeline.
It seems complicated at first glance... but you have to "fiddle" a lot to find it; it's intuitive but it solves almost ALL the problems... Because VideoReDo almost independently resolves all issues... which no other similar program does when using several in sequence.
As for me, I am looking for a version that is not "time limited".
And I am trying to create a translation in French of the Help ... but it contains about 110 pages! (We'll have to wait...)
Cheers and see you later

hello, I'm in the same boat... I'm having trouble joining two segments for the same file... do I need to save the two files as I go along? let's say that in one file I only take the beginning and the end, and I want to throw away the middle... another question, does Video Redo not accept AVI files? thanks
Hello Australia,
Unlucky, yesterday I broke down right at the start; I'm trying to continue,
1. File types:
VideoReDo TV Suite (VRD) only processes mpeg2 (VOB) files. That's normal since its purpose is to manage DVDs.
If you recorded in DivX, recode with the free DivXToDVD which only does that, does it well, without configuration,
If you recorded in DivX, XDiv, FLV, or others, use the free SUPER which handles most formats but requires
full configuration that's easy to accomplish (Tutos on Google).
After this recoding, we now have 4 vob files, VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2, etc. To make it easier,
we will rename them Part1.vob, Part2... This will be useful when we need to process several short films to avoid
getting lost with multiple VTS_01_1.vob files.
2. File cleaning and Backup:
When programming a recorder, you plan a little before the start time, a little after, and also you have
advertisements so cleaning is imperative before burning.
Launch VRD, "File/Open video" and open Part1.vob. Under the Timeline, a red or green bar. For further processing, VRD will not take into account the red areas (they will be ignored) but only the green areas. If after cleaning we have the opposite, we can easily remedy by inverting the colors with the "Invert Scene Selection" icon at the bottom of the right window. Note that if after examination a vob file requires no modification, the "Invert Scene Selection" icon will stay grayed out, we will then use the "Add
Selection" icon to change the color if necessary, but let's return to our Part1.vob displayed on the screen.
To eliminate the beginning, with the cursor at 00.00.00.00, thus at the beginning of the area to be removed, click on the "Sel Start" icon,
we move the cursor to the last image before the start of the film using the mouse or CTRL+arrow (1 minute per press) and fine-tune with Left or Right arrow while occasionally stopping the press because the small green window of the Timeline doesn't follow too well... and it's annoying for detecting the last image to remove. "Sel End" to mark the end of the area to be removed.
We confirm with the "Add Selection" icon and there, the area to be removed changes color.
To summarize the cleaning:
cursor at the beginning of the area to be removed, "Sel Start" (Start of Selection, (My tailor...)
cursor at the end of the area to be removed, "Sel End" (End of Selection)
we confirm with "Add Selection"
we monitor the color
We change the color if necessary
Now that Part1.vob is 'clean', we start the backup with the "Save As" icon, in MPG type in the folder of
your choice. VRD processes, announces when it's finished, displays the result with all characters in black if it worked well, click "OK". When we have processed the 4 Partx.vob like this, we have in the folder Part1.mpg, Part2.mpg etc
all 'clean'
3. Creating the film:
"File/Open video", we open Part1.mpg. Check that the Timeline bar is green, if not click on the "Add
Selection" icon, in the top command line "Joiner/Add Current Project To Joiner List". As nothing is visibly happening, "Joiner/Edit Joiner List" to ensure that Part1.mpg is accounted for and "OK" to close the window. We do the same with Part2.mpg, Part3.mpg. For the last file, in our example Part4.mpg,
we will not close the window with "OK" but after verifying that it is complete and in order, click on the "Create Video from joiner list" icon. In the window that opens, Folder xxx, Name: FilmComplet, Type:
mpg /Save. VRD processes, announces... and eventually creates FilmComplet.mpg in the folder xxx on the hard drive. The processing is not too long.
4. The Menu Presentation:
"File/Open video" to open FilmComplet.mpg, check that the bar is green. If we want to put a presentation image at the launch of the DVD, "Edit/Capture frame" we choose and VRD creates a BMP file. This will be better than the standard background if we opt for the menu with "Edit template/Background" which we will discuss below. Click on the "Create DVD" icon which opens a window. Since we want to burn without going through Nero or others, "Author to DVD_TS and burn", check "Erase DVD", uncheck "Delete Video_TS after burning" because if it fails, we will have to start all over again, "Create DVD Menu", choose either "Change text", modify if needed but we cannot remove the chapter number (1 since there is only 1 file) OR "Edit Template" where we can modify everything.
Select for example "1 Title", delete the text with the Delete key, uncheck on the right "Is DVD button" to remove the number. We continue with "2 Title"... If we want to add a comment, "Add text box"
Two important boxes: "When DVD starts" to display the menu and launch with the remote or 'quick' launch
and "When title ends" to return at the end of the DVD to the menu or continue to the next title. This is the case for several short films on the same DVD (see below)
Close the window, (sometimes an error message if we removed the number 1 mentioned above. In that case, OK to close). VRD processes, erases the DVD, burns in VOB (+ IFO and BUP), announces... and eventually ejects the DVD.
Phew it's over, we just need to try it on the living room player.
5. The case where we have several short films on the same DVD:
After any cleaning and backup, we get, for example Docu1.mpg, Docu2.mpg...
"File/Open video" to display Docu1.mpg. Check the color of the bar, the icon "Add Title to DVD" opens a window, "OK" to close. We do the same for Docu2, Docu3, Docux. For the last one, here Docux.mpg, we do not close it with "OK" but use the "Create DVD" icon to open a window, "Menu options/Change text". We find our files where we can modify the text while leaving the chapter number, the order with "Move Up" "Move Down"...
For a background image, "Change background/Grab video frame" we choose and "OK". In "When DVD starts" opt for "Display menu screen" and in "When title ends" for "Return to Menu" /"OK" VRD processes, announces... and ejects the DVD without intervention. We then have a menu with the choice to watch Docu1 or Docu2....
Well, there you go to get started. Just need to heat up the brain and practice. There are many other possibilities, but I don't want to ruin your pleasure of discovery with this software that doesn't crash easily. Have fun!

"Small detail", this assistance applies to the "TV Suite" version. I thought I saw that the "Plus" version did not include the ability to burn or create its Menu, but that needs to be verified. So, it may be necessary to adjust.
I forgot to mention that if we need to cut in the video, make sure that the small Audio curve under the Timeline is "flat" (in math, that the ordinate is zero), otherwise, we will cut into the dialogue.
Now I will try to understand why the text I had "properly" typed in the appropriate box of the forum ends up with all these hyphens in the display. It remains readable, but as a young forum member, I must have definitely forgotten something...
Have a good Sunday and enjoy.
