Hello,

My motherboard is dead, how do I remove the CPU and install it on a new motherboard?

Thanks to those who will provide the information.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

To remove the CPU, first take off the fan located above it, then "lift" the small latch (which is on the side of the processor), and it will "come out" on its own... you just have to take it ^^

To remove the thermal paste on it, use 90° Alcohol on a cotton pad (Why 90° ==> Because it will evaporate very quickly)

Then, to replace your processor on a new Motherboard, place it in the designated slot (be careful with the pins and don’t force it!) and then lower the latch... After that, apply thermal paste in the middle of the processor (where the old one was) ==> Put some in the NEW one, but not too much!!! Just a pea-sized amount

Then, replace your fan (sometimes it can be quite tricky ==> Because you need to ensure that both "legs" of the fan are well secured in their designated spots!)

If you have any other questions (or if my explanation does not suffice), feel free to ask

P.S: ==> Ground yourself BEFORE touching your components ==> Touch a radiator or another metal object connected to the Earth

Hello

I wanted to dust it off and while trying to remove the fan, the entire block as well as the CPU came out, but I didn’t have a wrist strap and I didn’t touch any radiator to remove the static? What are the consequences for the computer? Currently, only the fan is working, I’m thinking of changing the CPU, but is it too late since I didn’t remove the static..

You need to dismantle the fan and then turn a small screw half a turn to release the CPU from its socket.

Hello
I have the same issue; I have an Acer Aspire 5740G, the motherboard is dead, and I want to remove the components from it.
I've already removed the RAM, the fan, and the hard drive, but I think the processor is soldered.
If I desolder it and resolder it onto another motherboard, will it work, or is it also damaged????

Thank you for your answers.

remove the fan screws and you can easily change your CPU, and be careful about the CPU's position
