HP vs ACER Comparison Solved

Question

Hello,

I'm not bad at computer stuff; I'm just asking for your personal opinions.
I want to buy a laptop, and I have the choice between ACER and HP, with a big price difference between the two for the same specifications. So I'm asking you to enlighten me on why that is. Are ACER PCs really fragile and not solid? Or is there really no difference between the two? Thanks!

Thank you for responding.
I have a friend who had an ACER before, but he changed it quickly; he told me that after a maximum of 3 months, their defects start to appear. On the other hand, HP is normally a trusted brand (despite the high price), and even if there is a problem, they won’t abandon you. I think I will save for a few more months, then buy the HP; it's better. Thanks to you, bye........

I have an Acer 7220, it's doing well, maybe a little fragile at the hinges (not confirmed) but it's like any laptop, if you sit on it, it breaks. Otherwise, very good connectivity, it's worth considering as well with the same configuration.

as far as I can see it's a mess, for all brands, none can provide good service.
I compared HP/ACER, because I didn't like one thing about other brands like DELL, TOSHIBA..., they have the INTEL graphics card, which is not good, I tried it with several games, and it's not really pleasant compared to the ATI card that I have now.
There's also the giant IBM, but I can't find a PC here with the characteristics I'm looking for. I would recommend HP because their service center is not too far from my home, so in case of a problem it would be very easy for me to go directly to them.

I am still open to other suggestions, thanks again.

Yes, you are right; I have noticed that too.
Now, since I’m at it, I would like your opinion on the HP 6820s.
Two questions that are troubling me:
Is the L2 cache memory 2M for each processor, or is it shared between both?
Is the 128M video memory expandable?

I don't think the 128 MB video memory is upgradeable, but increasing it wouldn't change anything, as the ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 is an entry-level graphics card.

With a more or less equivalent configuration, I don't hesitate to pay 10%/15% more for an HP or Dell machine rather than choosing Acer. Or at an equivalent price, I sacrifice 200MHz of the processor and/or an interface available on Acer and not on the others if I consider it not essential.

Here's why:

Technical support.
If you are lost as soon as a software crashes, or if the machine won't start and needs to be reinstalled, if you are not able to diagnose a hardware problem from a software problem, you will need to call customer service, even if the hardware isn't really faulty.

Machines under warranty and out of warranty

Personal experience.
I have had many HP laptops and I have had (recently) an Acer in my hands.
HP. I have never needed the hotline. I once had a problem with a machine that wouldn't start and had been left in the sun behind a window for an entire afternoon. I thought the hard drive was dead, but no. A search for defective blocks and everything started working again (the laptop is two years old now, no problems since)

Acer: I had to reinstall "Acer" Windows twice in a month. Virus, bug? I don't know. I eventually reinstalled a "retail" copy of Windows. Then, the battery wouldn't charge anymore and the laptop wouldn't start, even with the charger plugged in. They first sent me a charger, and as that wasn't the problem, it went back to the workshop. Almost two months without a laptop.

In conclusion, I expect my machines to function for 3 years. Even though large manufacturers are not immune to problems, it seems that, at least with HP, this expectation is realistic. My sole experience with Acer does not support this. Additionally, Acer makes business with its hotline. I really dislike this principle, especially when it comes to honoring the legal warranty.
