Hello,
Here,
I recovered an old PC:
- Soyo SY-6BZ motherboard
- P!!! 450 MHz processor
- 128 MB RAM
- 10 GB hard drive
- Windows Me
Currently, I would like to install Windows XP but a BIOS update is requested, I found it on the manufacturer's website but it is in .bin format (http://www.soyo.com/content/Technical%20Support%20Downloads/155/&c=80&p=485&l=English) so I went to https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=21&v_code=6&v_p=2 to get the tutorial for creating the floppy disk. I tried the DOS utility that was in the tutorial and then copied the .bin file downloaded from Soyo's site. I started the machine and it said Starting PC DOS...
then it showed A:> and I typed DIR, I could see my file, but when I typed the command to open the file, it gave me "Bad command or file name" I think it's because it is in .bin format.
My final question: How to open a .bin floppy file? (I tried Iso Buster but it is recognized as audio CD)

A BIN file is an IMAGE file that you can burn with NERO or open with DAEMON TOOL, which will extract the file, and then you can copy the content to your floppy disk. Nevertheless, make sure to back up the original floppy disk and take another one to burn the extracted image... See you later

Thank you, I just tried with Deamons Tool: When I open the CD, the error "The disk is damaged or not compatible with Windows" appears
With Nero: Burning error at 32x (At the very beginning, not even a second after starting)

Packard Bell EasyNote SJ51-B-028:
- AMD Athlon 64x2 @ 1800 Ghz
- 2048 mb of ram
- 120 gb hard drive @ 7200 Rpm
- GeForce 7000M graphics card with 751 mb of video memory
- Windows Vista

It is therefore not the floppy disk that you have. It is possible that your CD is damaged. But when you downloaded it, where did you place that famous BIN file to burn it? That is what you need to try to open with D.TOOLS....

The .cue file allows you to open the .bin file

I just tried Daemons Tools and Nero with the .cue file but the same problem persists. Could it be because I’m using CD drive software instead of floppy disk software?
There is only this file, you need an executable. What else is in this BIN (open the TMP file, it should be a readable file, check what it says.... But I just downloaded it and it's weird, it's indeed an executable but it opens with VLC, which doesn't produce anything. D.TOOLS doesn't recognize it and neither does NERO.... This is the only site where it can be downloaded, and did you really check that it's the right one because if there's a mistake, there's no going back, C mother f*****.... Sorry..... See you later

I opened it with WordPad but it won't teach you anything because it's an executable...

I opened it with Notepad, the only thing I can read is this:
PRESS F1 TO DISABLE NMI, F2 TO REBOOT
I/O CHANNEL CHECK - CHECKING FOR SEGMENT...
RAM PARITY ERROR - CHECKING FOR SEGMENT...
OFFENDING ADDRESS NOT FOUND
OFFENDING SEGMENT:
PRESS A KEY TO REBOOT

-- This is what I was telling you, it's an executable under DOS but you're telling me that when you type its name it responds "Bad command or bad File". But did you enter the name of the File word for word when you wanted to Flash, because DOS is strict about File names..

I typed AWDFLASH into Google and found a bootable utility, so I copied it to my floppy disk. I rebooted my computer and typed AWDFLASH.EXE in the commands; it asked me for the BIOS file, I typed 6zb1aa3.bin and guess what, Succeeded!!! However, then it gave me a SOURCE FILE ERROR at about 10%, but the computer restarted without any problems, and it didn't complete the update.
Yes, I just checked the tutorial you mentioned above and indeed, the installation bat file for flashing is missing; it's definitely the utility you found... Strange, you say Strange, mysteries of computing. If your PC starts up, that's great, but you narrowly escaped because in case of a wrong maneuver and without a BIOS backup, you would have been in for buying a new motherboard... See you later

I will mark it as resolved because the problem is impossible to solve.
Thank you to those who helped me.

I still managed to do it, I used version 7.89 of AWDFLASH.EXE, on the floppy disk I typed:
A:>AWDFLASH.EXE
The program opens and I type IMG.bin (that's what I called it) and everything worked (about 10 seconds).
The computer has XP but I'm going to see about adding some RAM (I think I'll upgrade it to 256 MB, that's enough for me) and changing the processor.
