Hello,
The LCD screen of my SONY HANDYCAM DCR-HC17E camcorder no longer lights up. However, I can still film through the viewfinder. I am also able to transfer images to large video tapes because the play, rewind, and fast forward functions still work. But I have to do these operations "blind" since the screen is black. Could you help me?

HELLO
I have the same problem for a month with a HC19E camcorder purchased in August 2005. Have you found a solution?
Thank you in advance.-
Hello,
I have the same issue with my HC 19 E camcorder bought in November 2005. After consulting several sites, it seems that this is due to a connection problem between the camcorder and the screen caused by a break in the flex cable.
I went to a service center that "confirms" this hypothesis and offers to replace the flex cable.
However, I just received the quote for this modification amounting to €191 including tax. (I find this a bit expensive, so I plan to compare prices at other service centers).
On other forums, I read that Sony acknowledges a manufacturing issue with a number of camcorders and commits to covering repairs. However, our camcorder model does not appear on that list.
I will still try to contact their customer service tomorrow morning (0810 36 8000) to see if this repair can be covered.
I'll keep you updated.- Hi, slg, I have the same problem as everyone else with a SONY DCR-SR290 for about 1 or 2 months now, but (which is no longer under warranty for about 4-5 months, conveniently), now that I'm going to need it, it's really bothering me since I don't have an optical viewfinder. I'd like to know where you saw Sony's list for reimbursement, I want to know if I fall within the list or if I should manage by myself with a regular repair technician... thanks in advance.
- slt gbwin, how did you fix the camcorder sr 290? I have the same problem as you, except that I disassembled the camcorder to try to solve the issue, and I broke a flexible ribbon while trying to insert it with tweezers. I ordered the famous ribbon online two weeks ago and I'm still waiting. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hello dear internet users
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you.
I bought the ribbon for my Sony DCR-H17e camcorder, I changed it last night, it's not easy.
The old ribbon was well severed.
I was happy because the screen works and I have access to various features.
The problem is that every time I turn it on, it's blurry and I have to manually adjust the focus. I don't have access to the zoom, and the image isn't stable, why?
Thank you for your help
Have a nice day

Hello
It seems that there is someone who knows how to do it - or at least his friend: http://arjupileda.over-blog.com/...
Try to get in touch with him?
Good luck

I have the same screen problem with a DCR-HC19 purchased in December 2005.
It is indeed the ribbon cable that is cut at the joint
I called Sony but they do not cover it under warranty.
An independent repairman is asking for €120 for the repair.
It is tempting to buy the equivalent model, the DCR-HC 51, which costs only €189 but it uses different batteries that are now type H, hence an additional investment of €100 for a spare battery.
Sony has indeed locked the system to make us spend as much as possible!
It's regrettable that we can't reuse the old batteries.
Does anyone know a trick?

Hello,
after contacting Sony, the issue I had with my camcorder was not covered by their customer service.
as a result, I paid for the repairs.
nevertheless, you can contact them (at the phone number from my previous message), you never know!
good luck.

Hello, you shouldn't get rid of your cam just yet, it still works! Right?
-
For my part, it works very well, just the screen that doesn't display anymore, however the touchscreen still works. Unlike me, I can't afford to get such a gift... I'm going to try to fix it.
- Response to Kiki, Toto and Chenevert
Good evening amigos,
Yes, the camcorder works,
I was thinking, given the drop in prices on camcorders, I could hint at getting one as a gift (I could have suggested that), but given the price paid by Chenevert for the tablecloth, I'll try to fix it,
Is this operation easy to perform?
Have a good evening everyone

Please, I have the same problem with my screen and honestly, I don't know what to do. If someone has a solution, I really need it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Good evening
I had my camcorder repaired. It turned out to be cut cables at the junction of the screen and the camcorder. It cost me 120 euros at an independent repair shop. It would be great to get reimbursed by Sony (my camcorder is only 2.5 years old!), thank you for keeping us informed! -
Same tablecloth issue for me on a DCR H19E
It's indeed the part mentioned.
When you type
1-864-761-11 FP-185
into Google Images, the result is surprising.
After some research, I found two or three sites:
http://www.estock.fr (in Aix en Provence)
http://www.articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar (Argentinian site)
http://metsc.b2b.hc360.com/supply/42060737.html (Asian)
The prices are very similar, might as well ask in France.
I will come back here to let you know if I receive this part and if I manage to put it back together (because it’s not guaranteed...).
Regards.-
Hello,
I just had the same problem with a Sony DCR-HC17E, purchased in October 2005.
It reassures me because I thought I had made a mistake, and it annoys me because we can no longer count on anyone, let alone on big brands.
Considering the cost of repairs and the price of some camcorders (the latest Samsung for example at around 250 euros at Fnac, which is technically superior).
Transfer your films to DVD as soon as possible, while you can still control the camcorder via the PC.
Good luck to you all,

Hello
I have the same problem with my Sony camcorder and would like to know how to disassemble my device, if there are websites with instructions on how to replace the ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen, and where I can obtain one.
If you can, please kindly respond to me.
Have a great weekend. -

Hello everyone,
I'm just doing a quick follow-up to find out how the repair of Jean Claude, aka mdrdrj, turned out because I have the same issue with my dcr-hc19e and want to know where to find the part, the ribbon cable apparently?
Best regards.-
Hello dear internet user,
Given the cost of parts and the risk of a poor repair, I preferred to opt for a future gift, perhaps for Christmas, of a new camcorder, more efficient, and with a warranty.
Sorry,
Thank you for your help,
I am satisfied with the professionalism of this forum
and I wish all internet users and the forum administrators a wonderful end of year holiday season,
and I send you my best wishes for this upcoming year 2010 galloping in (Health, Happiness, Bliss)

Hello,
I'm following up on a problem with the hdr-hc3.
However, my screen is white, so the touch functions work since I can start playback, etc.
The question is that everyone talks about changing the ribbon cable for black screens. What about my case? Should I change the LCD or the ribbon cable? Given the price difference and also the complexity of the replacement, which is not the same... I would need some advice.
Thank you
