SONY CAMCORDER ERROR 31:23

Question

I have a problem with my SONY DCR-TRV245E camcorder when I insert a cassette, it fails to identify it and displays the error 31:23 and sometimes 31:22. I am sure it’s a mechanical issue, but how can I fix this problem?

You just need to give your camcorder a good slap and it’s done
I just did it, and I was able to record and playback several times
It's a mechanical problem
You need to shake the playback heads

I have the same C31:23 problem on my camcorder DCR TRV 480E: I slapped it, fiddled with the heads, and nothing worked, so I put an old tape in, then put the tape that wasn't working back in, and a miracle happened, it works!

Hello everyone,

I just found this forum. My Sony DCR PC 9 camcorder has been out of order for two years with the code C:31:23. Back then, I tried everything, and I’ve just decided to get it repaired. Out of caution, I did some new research online. Unfortunately, nothing works, not even hitting it or changing the tapes, whether they are new or old. The playback heads are eating the tapes.
Unless there's a miracle solution, I guess I'll have to pay for the repair. Do you have any idea of the cost for this type of repair? For your information, Fnac charges 75 euros per hour. I know I should send it by mail to Sony's facility in northern Paris, but I don't trust the postal service with that.

I found a Sony repair service online called Alert Technick.
The estimate for my DVR16E camcorder from 2003 is €228.77 for repairs. Hourly labor cost is €50 excluding VAT.
So my camcorder will be heading to the dumpster!
I saw the Panasonic SDR-S26 for €216 and I think I might go for it . . .

I have the same C31:23 problem on my Sony DCR-TRV285E camcorder: I slapped it, fiddled with the heads, nothing worked, so I put an old tape back in, then I put the non-working tape back in, and the miracle happened, it works. Thanks to everyone.

Désolé, j'ai traduit de l'anglais au français et vice versa via Google. J'ai eu un problème avec le même code d'erreur c:32:11, j'ai un caméscope Sony DCR TRV22 et la cassette ne voulait pas s'éjecter. J'ai pu éjecter la cassette en débranchant l'alimentation et en retirant la batterie, puis j'ai basculé le caméscope en mode mémoire et j'ai essayé d'éjecter la cassette - cela a fonctionné pour moi. Lorsque la cassette a été éjectée, j'ai constaté que la cassette était en mode protection, enregistrement désactivé (le petit interrupteur de sécurité sur la cassette elle-même qui ne permet pas d'enregistrer dessus). J'espère que cela pourra aider.

Hello everyone

I don't think we should hit the head (very dangerous risk of making it unusable) but rather gently tap the black switch on the cassette block that is only visible when the cassette is ejected. It's the tape presence control switch
which should be tapped gently to avoid damaging it, as these are very fragile parts.
