Hello everyone,

so, I was wondering... are we allowed to modify commercial software?

for example, to translate it or to change its appearance to something more practical, knowing that I paid for it and that it would be only for me (no distribution of the modified program)?

and what about free software that is not open source (e.g., Internet Explorer or MSN)?

thank you :-)

    Hello,
To my knowledge no, however you can for example integrate IE into one of your applications. That said, I don't know who would come and tell you anything...

    I agree with Teebo.
As long as it stays at your place, it's legal and you can tinker with absolutely everything you want.

However, it's legal in Europe, but not in the United States!

Once again: legally, you do not purchase the ownership of the software!!!
You only buy the permission, the right to use it within a certain framework accepted contractually; this is clearly specified in the famous EULA (End User License Agreement).
In fact, when you pay for software, it is not a transfer of ownership, it is royalties.

That said, as long as you’re at home

    Good evening,
well, I would say that indeed everyone is free to do as they please in their own home, but if you take the trouble to read the license agreement (the thing we accept during installation without ever reading it ;-))) it's prohibited (at least in the ones I've read), so I would say be cautious, now who is going to come and check that I tinkered with CCM to display it in Mandarin Chinese for my girlfriend!
    ;-)))))))))))

The prohibition of reverse engineering is an abusive clause in Europe.
      Disassemble freely!

It is indeed only prohibited in the USA.

Hello, I am taking the liberty of sending you this email in order to seek advice.

I bought a PC from a friend for the sum of 300 Euros.
She gave me all the documents as well as the receipt, the device is not 6 months old.
Anyway, here is my question: Does she need to provide me with a document for the sale of her PC?
Thank you for your response Poupouille
