Hello,
I would like to restore my Packard Bell PC. To do this, I burned 3 CDs using Smart Restore. When I turn on my PC with the 1st CD inside and press the F11 key, nothing happens; it starts normally. What can I do for the complete restoration program to appear?
Thank you for your help!

Ok.
Here is what the Guide says:
"If your computer refuses to boot from the CD or DVD, refer to page 41 to learn how to set the BIOS settings to default.
Setting the BIOS default settings.
Press [F1] or [F2] at startup to access the BIOS. The BIOS controls the computer's hardware components. Access the BIOS only if you are an experienced user or if a qualified technician asks you to.
1. Select Exit from the menu using the arrow keys or the mouse (if available)
2. Select Default Values from the menu and press [Enter]. Press [OK] to confirm.
3. Select Save Change and Exit and press [Enter]. Press [OK] to confirm.
4. The computer will then restart automatically."
There is one more thing you must keep in mind with Packard Bell to restore the original configuration:
You need to remove all hardware components (sound card, video card, network card, etc.) that you may have installed.
You need to reinstall the Packard Bell hardware components that you may have removed.
You need to disconnect any other peripherals you may have connected (scanner, printer, etc.).
I hope this information helps you solve your problem.
Keep me updated

- Hi,
Since your problem is different from that in this discussion, you did well to create your own message.

Hi PP06100,
The answer to your question is above: https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-4802477-restauration-d-un-packard-bell#4
You need to configure the BIOS default settings so that your PC boots from the CD.

Hello,
If you are using the CDs, do not press F11.
Here’s how you should proceed:
1/ Turn on your computer.
2/ Insert the Master CD into the drive and then close the tray.
3/ If Windows is running, restart your computer by clicking on Start > Shut down > Restart. It will automatically boot from the CD.
4/ The drive activity light should blink to indicate that your computer is booting from the disk.
I got the above from the "Getting Started & Troubleshooting Guide" from Packard Bell.
Keep me posted.
Best regards,

Thank you for your responses, but neither of them works!
Hubertaaz, when I restart the computer with the CD inside, I feel like it doesn't have time to start, the button lights up, blinks, and then turns off. -
Hi!
I went into the BIOS and it worked; the computer has been restored and it’s like new! Except I have a problem: I didn't remove the sound card or the video card because I didn't install them; they were already installed when I bought the computer new. So I can’t read any CDs or DVDs... Is there a solution?
Thanks! -
Hello,
Could you detail the problems that led you to restore your computer because if it's about viruses, despite the complete restoration, it was necessary to delete all user files. Otherwise, you need to update your antivirus to clean the personal files stored in the data volume (DATA).
If your computer was not infected, the problem is probably related to drivers needing to be reinstalled or updated.
Sincerely

I restored my computer because it is over 4 years old and the disk was almost full and it was very slow. I transferred my files to my external hard drive. So I don't think it's a virus.
I bought a new Norton antivirus last week knowing that I was going to restore my PC. I had Bitdefender until now.
How can I reinstall the drivers?
Thank you... -
What is your CD-DVD reading software? You mentioned that you cannot read any CDs or DVDs. Do you have sound or any images at all? Keep me updated if what follows doesn’t help.
Firstly, you can try what is indicated here in post 42: http://jabrunet.mvps.org/main7.html#42
If the problem is not resolved, go to the Control Panel (classic view) > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Click on your drives > General tab > Troubleshoot. If the device is working properly > Drivers tab > Update.
If it still doesn’t work, you can uninstall the driver, and it will reinstall at the next startup.

Hi there!
Here I am back... I'm having some issues with the computer. I got the sound back but not the video. It doesn't recognize the DVDs; are there drivers that need to be installed?! Besides, I have my antivirus that I can't install. It's asking me to download Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, but that one is glitching!
That's where I'm at! -
Hi,
You haven't provided many details. Did you do what I mentioned in post 3 of the other topic?
Regarding your antivirus, did you uninstall the one that came pre-installed on the computer (I think it's Norton)? You must absolutely uninstall it via Start > All Programs > Packard Bell Assistance > Smart Restore and you will see a red X next to Norton AV.
If you didn't uninstall it this way, it's better to reinstall it using Smart Restore and then (re)uninstall it.
As for Service Pack 2, it may be related to the DVD reading issues; I will do some research.
If you want to make sure the problem isn't coming from WMP, you can download VLC here: http://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/telecharger 127 vlc
It's free and even better than WMP.
For me to help you further, you need to keep me updated on everything you've done.

Regarding the bug on the installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2, try this:
1/ Start your installation.
When it freezes, go to the "Task Manager"; you can access it by pressing ctrl+alt+del.
Go to the "Processes" tab.
In the list that appears, you will see a file named: fixcss.exe that is using 100% of your CPU.
End the process. The installation will resume.
There may be an error message at the end of the installation, but restart your PC without worrying.
Normally, on restart, you should be running Windows XP SP2.
2/ If the above does not work, you may need to consider uninstalling Windows updates before installing Service Pack 2.
Keep me posted

Hello, saviors!!

I want to perform a factory restore due to a missing NTDLR
So
1: ctrl+alt+delete
2: esc
3: CD/DVD: PS-Optiarc DVD RW AD-554
4: recovery process...SYSTEM SERIAL NUMBER: OK
5: okay to continue...CANCEL for DOS...So OK I continue
6: 1 factory restore
2 advanced menu
3 tools
4 Cancel to return to DOS
7: I'm stuck from there, the PC is unresponsive!!! I type 1 but nothing happens
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A SOLUTION...THANK YOU-
Hi gargoyle,
To restore a Packard Bell, you need to follow the steps I indicated in post 2: http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 4802477 restoration of a Packard Bell#2
If you encounter a problem, see post 4: http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 4802477 restoration of a Packard Bell#4
Best regards

He who asks a question is foolish for five minutes; he who does not ask is foolish for life.
(Chinese proverb)- Thank you, hubertaaz!
I followed the instructions... but...
when I powered the PC back on, a list scrolls indicating that the DOS has indeed reverted to its default values,
but it always ends up giving me this recurring message: NTLDR is missing!
And if I follow the steps from my last message, I get stuck at the same point!
with one difference, at step 3 I have an additional option: NETWORK: Realtek Boot Agent
but that just brings me back to the recurring message
but since it's not my PC, it's my friend's, I wonder if multiple CDs are needed or if everything is on one??
IN ANY CASE, upon reaching "Welcome to the Packard Bell recovery program," selecting 1, 2, 3, or 4 does not work...
