Go to the System Preferences of the Dock,
-click on the "International" button, / "Input Menu" tab,
-there you check the box "Character Palette" and the box "Keyboard Viewer", and also at the bottom, the box "Show input menu in the menu bar" and then close System Preferences.
Now, in your menu bar under Finder, you have an icon shaped like a tricolor flag; if you click on it, you access an option "Show Keyboard Viewer" that you display, and you will see all the function keys and how they change when you press one of them in combination with the Alt (Option) key held down, or the Shift key, or the Ctrl key, or a combination of several of these keys, etc... you will then easily find what you want.
If you display the Character Palette, you will also be able to find all the symbols or special characters that you can use directly.

Go here:
Hard Disk / System / Library / CoreServices / Menu Extras and double-click on the file you want, for example, to add the eject icon to the menu bar, double click on "Eject.menu", or to have the Airport menu, click on "Airport", which will allow you to connect/disconnect with a single click... etc.. try out the menus you want

If you want to remove an icon added by mistake, just drag it out of the menu bar while holding down the Command key.

ñ = alt-n then n (you can also do ã, õ, for example)
Ñ = alt-n then N

The "multiplier" character? Do you mean * or x or . all used to represent multiplication?

If that's what you're referring to:
* is the star on the alphanumeric or numeric keyboard,
x is... x between w and c on the lower left of the keyboard
. is the dot, as in the end of a sentence.
