Gray rectangle on screen

Hello, I have had a gray rectangle on my screen for a few days. It doesn't depend on my monitor, as I tried it on another one and the same problem occurred. It blocks my view all the time; when the computer turns on, it appears once the desktop is loaded, plus it has a tint but not a beep. I reset the display settings and it's still the same. If someone can help me, by the way, I forgot to mention that I think it appeared after a power outage when the computer was in sleep mode. Well, thank you if you can help me.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Have you looked into case #1 a bit?
-> ctrl + alt + delete -> "task manager" -> "processes" -> right-click on explorer "end task" (does the black frame disappear along with everything present on your desktop and the start menu?) -> file -> run -> "explorer"

Otherwise, for your drivers, check the device manager -> right-click on the computer -> properties -> "hardware" tab -> "device manager" (do you have any unrecognized, uninstalled devices indicated by a yellow icon with a "!", or even a red icon)?
In the graphics card device, what is the name displayed, if there is one? (the full name).

There you go.

Hi Alex, but that's not it since I tried on another screen and it's the same, so do you have any idea? Thanks.

Oh! It's very simple: you refuse the hard drive antivirus of your PC for another one, or you don't open a certain account while studying whether it is French and secure. Then, out of spite from the refusal, these sites send you various troubles. They are the first to send what seems to be viruses, but in fact, they are persecuting us in the hope of changing our minds. Consult technicians; that's the best solution if you're just starting out. Good luck!

You can try the control panel (screen resolution) or search on the site that gave you this poisoned gift. In the user forum, there are good advisors more experienced than us, and then there's Windows technical support. Surely there will be one great person who will give you the solution!

If I understand correctly, you connected your screen to another PC without any issues.
Case 1: You have a software that messes up the display... maybe try stopping unnecessary processes, see if stopping the explorer process helps to determine if it's coming from Windows, then just restart it in the task manager by running "Explorer."

Case 2: Maybe it's the graphics card driver? Reinstall it.

Hi
Ok for the graphics card. The problem is that I don't have any installation or recovery CDs because I bought the computer from an assembler who came and installed it for me, and then left his store without saying anything to anyone. So here we are with our computer that is just a year old. So what to do? See you later.

Good evening,

I too have a big problem with a white-gray rectangle, depending on the background.

I had (badly) installed olitec speed com, it didn't work, so I wanted to uninstall everything, thinking I would reinstall it properly.

Until now, I had a banner at startup with the olitec logo (incomplete by the way).

Since the uninstallation, I still have a big rectangle right in the middle of the screen, fixed, impossible to move, it doesn't respond to clicks, and it obstructs everything.

I tried reinstalling the famous olitec, but the catch is that the messages asking for confirmation are under the rectangle and I can't click OK when prompted; there's only a tiny bit of blue, impossible to move...

So I'm stuck. And when I close everything, the rectangle disappears and everything is nice and blue, but as soon as it restarts, it is THERE!

Help, what do you think?

Thank you if you have any tips.

I have the same problem since today!
During the night, my screen was in sleep mode and a Windows 7 update installed and restarted the PC.

Since then, there is a vertical gray rectangle of 2x4 cm on my screen. It doesn’t respond to any mouse clicks, but I can move it around the screen.
Another characteristic: it goes "above" any running applications, whatever they may be.
Could it be a... I don’t know what commonly referred to as a virus?

I have the same problem on 2 of my computers.
I can move it, but nothing else, no action when clicking on it with the mouse.

I think some pixels on your screen might have been fried by the power outage.
