Hello, for a while now I've had gray crosses in the bottom left corner of some office icons, whether they are PDF documents, photos, or Word files. I can't open these documents anymore; they are not shortcuts. I feel like this started after a Windows update on my PC.
Thank you for your replies.

Hello,
Sorry for the delay, but here’s an article I found in English on the subject:
https://scottiestech.info/2016/02/07/fix-the-grey-x-on-shortcut-icons-in-windows/

Here’s a little translation:
This problem has occurred several times and completely randomly on Windows 7, 8(.1), and 10. For this, a very simple solution:
- Right-click on a desktop icon containing an "X"
- Then, click on "Open with..." and select the appropriate program
And normally, Windows will remove all the little crosses, which look like this:

If that doesn't work, try clicking on a blank space on the desktop and press the F5 key

Note: You won’t have to change the default program for the file you have chosen, for example: ".docx" documents open with Microsoft Word, do not try to use Notepad or anything else to open them!

That’s all, I hope I’ve solved your problem,
And with that, I wish you a good day!
