Hello,
I want to connect my Xbox 360 to Media Center on my PC. What happens is that it detects the console (I have Vista), so I go to the MC on the 360, I have to write the 8 digits down on a piece of paper, then click "continue", then I have to configure it on the PC and after entering the 8 digits requested, "the installation key", well it says "configuration error, an error occurred while configuring your computer for use with this extender unit". It seems that it might be related to the firewall, but I don't know.

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Hi there, I have the solution to the problem. I also wasn't able to connect my Xbox 360 to my laptop, which has Windows Vista Home Edition... It's very easy to connect your PC and your Xbox with my instructions ;)

Here’s how to do it:

1- Open your Xbox 360.
2- Then go to the "My Xbox" section, then "Windows Media Center".
3- Click on it and take the code it gives you and click "Continue". (Important: You must leave your Xbox screen as it is after clicking "Continue" or the connection will not happen!!!)
4- Then open "Windows Media Player" and go to the library section.
5- Click to view all the options in your library and go to the "Media Sharing" section, and check both boxes: "Search for media files shared by other users" and "Share my media files in:"
6- Click on the Xbox 360 icon and click "Allow" below.
7- Then click "Apply" and then OK.
8- Next, go to: "Control Panel" and click on: "Windows Firewall".
9- In the upper left, you’ll see a section titled: "Turn Windows Firewall on or off". Click on it and they will ask you for Administrator permission, accept and set your firewall to "off".
10- Then go to the "Exceptions" section and check at the bottom: "Media Center Extender".
11- Click Apply then OK.
12- You can finally open "Windows Media Center", then go up and select the section titled: Tasks and move your mouse to the left to click on "Settings".
13- Then click on "Extender" and then click on "add Extender".

After that, you should be able to set up the rest yourself; you just need to enter the code you retrieved at the beginning on your Xbox 360 and check yes to all the options. For example, they will ask you if your firewall is configured to receive an Extender; well, with my steps, it’s already configured. So you just need to check "yes" to all the steps.

**Note: Don’t forget that after retrieving the code on your Xbox 360, and clicking on Continue, you must leave the screen as is and have your Xbox on; otherwise, it will be impossible to make the connection with Windows Media Center.**

I have Windows XP, and in Media Center, there is no "task" etc... So I'm stuck. The videos on my PC play very well in Windows Media Player, but they are unreadable on the Xbox, as it shows me a "status code 80xxxxxx"....

Do you know how I could fix this? :/
