Hello,
On the Inventor side, no one seems to be able to help me....
So I'm asking the question differently, I'm on Vista Premium 32 bit which doesn't handle more than about 3.3 gigabytes of RAM
I have 4 sticks of 1 gigabyte, so the maximum manageable by Vista 32 bit
I would like to install 8 gigabytes of RAM so that my program "Autodesk Inventor" can run more easily because it's very limited at the moment, so my question is can I switch from Vista Premium 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit without any issues?
So far, I've done a little tour on the Windows site where I scanned my system and it seems that some drivers might be missing for 64 bit, I'm a bit afraid of having to format and reinstall everything if, once the upgrade is done, there are unsolvable driver issues
Has anyone ever switched from Vista 32 bit to 64 bit??
All information is welcome....thank you all ....

Hi everyone, personally I've been running on Vista 64 with SP1 for quite a while now and I highly recommend it!!!
Same situation for me.... I purchased the upgrade to ultimate on the Microsoft website and I would like to know if during the upgrade I will have the choice between 32 or 64 bits?
Currently, I have home premium 32 bit OEM preinstalled by HP on my computer.....

Hello, it's quite simple. You need a CD that usually sells with an expensive license, but the CD is completely free. It's called "Vista 64-bit Upgrade." However, you will need to find the drivers for the 64-bit version, and they are not yet available for all devices (webcams, printers, etc.). But if you have HP or Microsoft products, you shouldn't have any problems finding them!
Good evening,
Same problem; Vista Home Edition only manages 3GB. After discussing with different people, I was advised to avoid paying today for a Vista upgrade since, in 2009, Windows 7, Vista's replacement, will reportedly manage memory dynamically.
So if I have to pay anyway, in my opinion, it makes more sense to pay for Windows 7 than for a Vista upgrade.
See you later!

If you do the operation, let me know how it goes, since my PC is also an HP
I haven't done the operation yet because I really don't want to reinstall everything if it goes wrong...
Thanks and see you later

Hello Banzai, I have the same memory problem with Vista Premium 32-bit. I bought a new motherboard that can give me 8GB of memory. There is no upgrade from 32 to 64-bit. I am about to buy Vista Professional 64-bit in OEM to install on a new hard drive. The Pro version has a restore system like the Ultimate version but does not come with Media Center. Price: 123.00 Euros on c-discount.com payable in 3 installments. Best regards.
Hello, can you maybe help me, is it possible to upgrade from Vista Home Basic to Vista Premium?
I just bought Vista Premium like you, philippe9, in 3 installments on Cdiscount. But won't it overwrite my documents, photos, videos...? I don't know where to ask for help anymore, I've even written to Microsoft without success.
Thank you for helping me, I am a novice in this area.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem,
How can I upgrade my Windows Vista Home Premium (x32) to Windows Vista Home Premium (x64)? By the way, the x32 version came pre-installed from HP. The reason for this upgrade is the increase of my RAM from 3G to 6G, but currently I am stuck with Win Vista x32 at 3.25G. I went to the Microsoft website to order the DVD that would allow me to upgrade, but the Microsoft representative told me that since it was a pre-installed version, the upgrade they offered would not work. Instead, they suggested I buy, once again, a full version of Windows Vista Home Premium (x32) and also the upgrade.
There's something fishy going on. I'm not implying that Microsoft is dishonest, although! That's why I'm seeking your valuable help. Is there anyone who has an answer?
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

For my part, I'm still on Vista 32 bit. Since I use my PC for work every day, I can't afford to mess around too much... but I'm waiting for an effective solution that I hope will come....
In the case mentioned, it is indeed not normal to have to buy a full version when it was originally installed on the PC. I also have an HP, so I think I'll buy the full version of Vista 64 bit directly, but before that, I want to be sure that it works....

To answer at least part of the question:
I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit with 8 GB of RAM on an ASUS P5N32-E and it works very well, I just needed to update the motherboard's BIOS.
Vista 64-bit allows for addressing a larger amount of RAM. Beyond 8 GB, I think (up to 128 GB, but it's best to double-check) like all 64-bit operating systems, by the way.
For Vista 32-bit, there is a solution proposed by Microsoft in SP1 for Vista to support 4 GB of RAM (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929605/the-system-memory-that-is-reported-in-the-system-information-dialog-bo regarding 64-bit software, and particularly antivirus programs, Outpost, Antivir, Kaspersky, or Avast offer 64-bit versions that work perfectly.
As for Inventor, for performance and compatibility reasons, it would be better to switch to the 64-bit version if you are installing Vista 64.

Hello banzai 1964, actually the cheapest solution would be to buy an OEM version of Vista Home 64-bit for around 100 euros and install this system on a new hard drive, making sure to have a compatible card. There is also the SP1 that has just been released by Microsoft, but I'm not sure if it would be useful?
Hello, having a 32-bit computer and another one with 64-bit, I can say that the speed of the 64-bit is very noticeable, with the same processor and memory.
Hello BANZAI, well, I've managed to buy a 64-bit OEM version of Vista Ultimate through sheer willpower, for about 150 euros. There’s a cheaper Premium version available. I was able to get 8 gigs of memory. I don’t think you can upgrade from 32-bit Vista to a 64-bit version, but with the purchase of a new hard drive and a 64-bit OEM Premium version, it might be worth it. Otherwise, there are no issues with drivers on 64-bit, and installing SP1 can help. Best regards.
Hello everyone, I have a problem too. I have my computer running on Vista 32-bit, I have 4 x 2GB DDR2, but I can only see 6GB of RAM in the system. Is there a solution for this?
The Windows 32Bit series only supports a total of 4 gigabytes of RAM
(Including the RAM of the graphics card)
For example:
Win Vista 32Bits with 4GB of DDR2 Kingston HyperX equipped with an MSI N9800GTX 512MB DDR3 graphics card: Your Windows will indicate that you have 4GB of RAM minus the 512MB present on the graphics card
In your case:
Your Vista is on SP1 so you see the total RAM installed AND recognized by your motherboard
PS: With SP1 it shows what you have in RAM, okay, but it doesn't use it for that matter
By the way, check in your motherboard manual if it supports more than 6GB of RAM (Yeah, it needs to be checked), and make sure you follow the RAM installation scheme.
(Some motherboards can support a fair amount of RAM but in order to do so, they need to be installed in a certain way.
Example: a motherboard with 4 DDR slots does not mean you can put four RAM sticks at your convenience but that you can put 4 sticks according to the scheme indicated in your manual)
But know this, for your Win Vista to use ALL your RAM you need a 64Bit Vista and not a 32Bit one.

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have a laptop, and when I bought Vista Premium to upgrade from the pre-installed Vista Home Basic on my computer, I realized on the Vista website and in the manual that it was possible.
I made a backup DVD of my files, then started the installation. When I inserted the CD, it offered me either an installation or an upgrade; I tried the upgrade (recommended) and everything went well.
I have no problems; my computer is functioning properly.
Thanks anyway.
Best regards.

Another thing, the SP1 of 32-bit Vista now displays 4GB of RAM but doesn’t manage it!!!! Well yeah (again)! Sorry guys...
