Hello everyone
I have an Archos 605 wifi that I was able to connect to a Livebox and a Freebox
- regarding the Livebox
two cases are present: a Sagem Livebox or an Inventel Livebox
to connect a wifi device to these routers, you need to press a button that puts the Livebox in search mode, this is button 1 on the front of the Inventel, and for the Sagem, it's one of the three black buttons (the one marked REG)
there's another solution which is to enter the Livebox's IP address in your internet browser (192.168.1.1 in my case, this address allows access to the Livebox configuration interface, and there you can add the MAC address of the Archos (you can find the Archos MAC address in the system menu of the Archos)
then, you need to enter the password to access the Livebox, the famous key (WEP or WPA) in any case for the Livebox, you need to set it to a 128-bit key (by default, the Archos is set to 64 bits):
- you need to put 128 bits next to key size when entering the wifi interface of the Archos
- you must remain in hexadecimal for the key format
- enter the key in uppercase (it is found under the Livebox)
- leave system authentication open (default)
- leave DHCP automatic configuration
and then make the connection
concerning the Freebox:
you need to go to your internet user account to activate the wifi, and to set a WEP or WPA key
you need to set the Freebox in router mode to connect both with your Archos and your PC (this is true when you want to connect multiple machines at the same time)
you need to restart the Freebox
then on the Archos:
- you need to enter the key size defined in the Free interface when accessing the wifi interface of the Archos
- you must remain in hexadecimal for the key format
- enter the key in uppercase defined in the Free interface
- leave system authentication open (default)
- leave DHCP automatic configuration
Another interesting point:
you can stream from your PC:
- you can use a small software called Windows Media Connect that allows you to define a set of files you want to share and with which machines you want to share them)
- or create a network with the Windows network wizard,
then indicate for the Livebox in the management interface of the Livebox, for Free in your account in the router settings, a fixed IP address corresponding to the MAC address of your Archos
indicate to your firewall to allow this IP address without restriction (it will correspond only to your device and no other (this is the principle of MAC addresses being unique for a given product and securing your network)
and then from your Archos you have access to all the files on your PC, so you can read them directly without having to copy them (interesting for the 4GB Archos) or play them on your TV.
PS
for those who complain about having to pay for each plugin, know that Archos is a pioneering French company in the PMP field, long before Apple, at the start all elements were provided directly with the Archos, with Apple's arrival on the market, Archos used the same weapons and started selling plugins ... is it a good or a bad thing? I don't know, in any case, we cannot praise Apple too highly, and criticize those it copied on the technical level for using the same commercial methods.-
Hello,
and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! for your post: it is very clear and should, if people read it, help solve many issues. I use the Upnp function with the Archos and it's true that it's a joy to be able to stream videos from the PC to the TV without making copies. I didn't need Windows Media Connect because the video files are on a server that has Upnp functionality. However, I am interested in this software for all the other files that are not on this server but on the various hard drives of my computer. I suppose the advantage of this software is that it allows not to put "sharing" on all the folders that one might eventually want to read via the Archos, thus avoiding overloading C: ??
PS: I am one of those who complained a bit about the systematization of paid plugins... but I still bought the Browser, which ultimately doesn't serve me much... I should have bought the cinema plugin with all the decoders... but at the same time I have a Home Cinema setup... the GPS plugin could be useful, but it reaches the entry-level price of devices dedicated to this use, so it's still... a bit expensive for an... extension, right??? But indeed, CONGRATULATIONS to a French company for being present in this niche with this level of quality that has absolutely NOTHING to ENVY from APPLE...
good evening or day, it's up to you- Hello and thank you,
Indeed, Windows Media Connect allows an device (MP3 player, PMP, or others) connecting to a local network to access a set of directories that we choose from different hard drives (for my part, 6 directories on 4 different drives). The advantage is that we can set these directories for access to a specific device or share them with all devices on the local network.
As for the web browser, I admit I use it quite often (I travel a lot) and keep access to email and online information without having to pay an outrageous mobile plan.
Thank you for your post. - Good evening,
I’m going to download Windows Media Connect, I assume it's free?? And that it works with XPSPS2?? And that it's not too complicated to set up?? If I understand correctly, the real advantage is that you can access any folder on any hard drive present on the network??
Thanks for the tip.

Hi, with my Archos 605 WiFi 30GB, you need to use the WEP key that is on channel 1 only. Make sure you haven't configured your key on a different channel in your Freebox...

Hi, I'm looking for someone who can help me, I hope you can assist me because:
I bought an Archos in Nice, unfortunately on the return flight with AIR FRANCE my backpack was lost, and I ended up with only the Archos, but when I returned home I bought the charger kit, TV... from Fnac...
Anyway, now I'm not very knowledgeable about Archos; this is my first one, I don't know how to connect to the internet, I have internet at home.
I activate the Wi-Fi on the Archos, but a cross appears at the top next to the battery on the Wi-Fi logo?
Furthermore, I don't know what the WEP key is and what it's used for?
And also the Name (SSID)...
Can I know how to connect to the internet with Wi-Fi please
Thank you in advance for all the answers you will give to my request.
Sincerely -

For the neuf box, a WPA key is required but the Archos only offers letters while the WPA key on the box indicates numbers.
You just need to use the remote control of the Archos device which allows you to enter numbers, check automatic after allowing Windows Media Player sharing and you're good to go. -
You need to go into your network settings and change the bit rate to 126 k/bits
which will allow you to enter your 26 letters
as for me, I have a Livebox
I just had to press the pairing button (so that the Livebox refreshes the networks) at the moment your Archos tries to connect so that the Livebox detects it
This is similar to a meeting
The Archos sends a signal indicating that it wants to join the network, and if the Livebox recognizes it, it accepts it, and then they establish the connection themselves because they already know each other. -
Here’s a little extra that might help you. I just received my Archos 705 160GB, and I think I'm going to get the plugin; the video is convincing.
I hope this video will answer many of you.

Hello everyone,
I also got an Archos 605 WiFi 4GB for Christmas and I'm wondering about the plugins, especially the web browser to surf via WiFi (it worked fine at home with the WiFi but my WiFi network isn't secured yet, we'll see how it goes when I put in a key...) about 30 euros it seems, it's outrageous and I've heard it doesn't support JAVA, has anyone tried to surf with the plugin, does it work well?? Is it worth spending 30 euros on that??
Otherwise, for the WEP key, you shouldn't include the dashes, right! :) -

Hello everyone,
I managed to connect my Archos 605 to my US Robotics router via Wi-Fi.
I can see my network DAREDEVILL58
it is protected, so there are red level indicators
I select it
the Archos indicates that it is searching for available networks and finds my Wi-Fi network
DAREDEVILL58 Channel 11 Mode: Infrastructure Wi-Fi field indicators in red Padlock WAP2
I select it
WPA Key: my code
Automatic Configuration DHCP
I touch "Connect"
connecting to DAREDEVILL58
and it's done, it works
then when I reselect the Wi-Fi icon at the bottom right I get the following display:
Connected to Daredevill58
Wi-Fi WPA2-PSK
Automatic configuration DHCP
IP address 192.168.1.4
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS Server 192.1668.1.1
that's it if it can help you...
then when you select Media Portal:
unable to connect to media portal
I choose the web icon
it tells me that to go online I need to purchase a plug-in,
I indicate buy now, even if that's not my intention and
Opera Powered appears and then, I arrive at Archos's online purchase site....ARCHOS CONTENT PORTAL
which wants to sell me a web browser for €30... which would also allow me to download videos and music....
€19 for a plug-in to turn my Archos into a DVD quality Mpeg-2 player and, if I purchase the DVR station, the possibility to play these videos with 5.1 sound on a television... or my home cinema system
Summary:
no need for a Web Browser to download music or videos, unless you don't have a PC or Mac at home... I converted a Bruce Springsteen concert to avi and I "dragged and dropped" it into the VIDEO folder of the Archos and it's perfect.
Precaution to take, configure your Archos as a PC hard disk and not a mobile device
for music, same, I used tracks from iTunes, Windows Media Player, directly from CD all through drag and drop and it works perfectly.
No need to pay €30 for that
for surfing the web, given the battery life... I have doubts plus I've read that the Archos doesn't take Java applications... and I believe that's useful for surfing the net??
Making the Archos a DVD player ... considering the size of the screen, the avi is not that bad. And for my part, if I have a home cinema, I would rather use that player than the Archos to watch a movie...
In short, at the price of the Archos 605 Wi-Fi, it seems to me that it could have been equipped for free with these gadgets or at a reasonable "pack" price because spending nearly €60 for "gadget" features is a lot, isn't it???
Well, it's not all, but I have a documentary on The Who to convert to watch on the Archos while going to work tomorrow!!!
See you later! -
For those with the Livebox, you need to enter the MAC address of the Archos, which you will find in the connection settings at the top right.

there are a lot of explanations
good luck -

Just press the association button on your live box, which, if I'm not mistaken, is located next to the power input.
Good luck. -
Good evening,
Based on everything you mentioned, could you confirm if the Archos 605 Wi-Fi really connects to the internet and for what exact usage? Thank you very much... -
Oops, sorry, I just saw the message from flo12 earlier... it's good, it's working!! Thanks anyway ;) lol

Hello,
To begin with, I would like to know if the Archos 605 works or is compatible with WPA2, as that is how I configured my D-Link DIR-625 router. The Archos sees it, but I can't connect. When I try to connect, I have to open it completely, making it accessible to everyone. Should I switch to WPA? And in the post by brutor58, there is DNS Server 192.1668.1.1 ........Is that a mistake or is it correct? I’m eagerly waiting for your news, as I've spent many hours fiddling with this. THANK YOU! -
Hi everyone
if you want to connect your Archos like I did and you're struggling, go check the settings of your Livebox. On the net, go to wireless network and disable the MAC address, then enter your key and everything, and it works MAGIC!!!
Hi -
So, here's my problem: I have the Archos 5g (I think the 605) and I want to connect to the internet. I enter my WEP key but it doesn't accept all the digits AND the connection doesn't work, what should I do? Do I need to configure something else...?
